Mumbai,June 29: Rumour has it that Fardeen Khan and his sister Laila’s boyfriend Farhan Furniturewala do not get along.

Late Saturday night, both men nearly came to blows at a nightclub in Andheri East. Fardeen, Laila, Farhan, Farah Ali Khan and her husband DJ Aqeel were together when the fight happened.

An eyewitness said, “It all started with a heated discussion, which soon became an ugly argument. A point came when they both got physical. Onlookers were extremely shocked at their behaviour.”

North Korea warns Japan over spying

Tokyo, June 29: North Korea has vowed to shoot down any Japanese planes that violate its airspace, accusing Tokyo of spying near one of its missile launch sites.

The military “will not tolerate even a bit the aerial espionage by the warmongers of the Japanese aggression forces but mercilessly shoot down any plane intruding into the territorial air [of the North] even 0.001 mm,” the air force said in a statement on Saturday.

Security forces prepare for final assault in Lalgarh

Kolkata, June 29: Security forces on Sunday arrested two Maoist rebels, defused seven landmines and were busy gathering intelligence inputs before launching an assault on the rebels’ remaining stronghold at Kantapahari and its surrounding areas of West Bengal.

The two Left wing extremists were picked up from Sarenga near Kargil junction in neighbouring Bankura district, minutes after two landmines were found from the area by the joint force of the central paramilitary troopers and West Bengal armed police.

The two rebels were being interrogated at the Khatra police station.

Toronto man arrested on child porn charges for fourth time

Toronto, June 29: A 59-year-old Toronto man convicted three times for possessing child pornography, is now facing a fourth such charge.

Blair Evans, a retired nuclear physicist, was arrested at a branch of a public library in Toronto.

In 2005, Evans received a 47-month sentence related to child porn, the toughest-such sentence imposed in Canada at the time.

He served eight months because of credit received for 17 months of pretrial custody and was freed on probation in July 2006.

Teens sell sex to purchase designer wear

Hong Kong, June 29: An increasing number of Hong Kong teenagers are selling sex to earn money for designer clothes, in a trend called “compensated dating”, a survey released on Sunday indicated.

One in 10 students questioned said they believed schoolgirls were involved in the practice and 6.6% said they knew fellow students who had done it.

87% of the 3,000 interviewees said they believed teenagers got involved in the practice to earn money to buy branded products. Police have arrested several men in recent months for allegedly working as pimps for schoolgirls as young as 13.

West Indies defeat India by eight wickets, level series

Jamaica, June 29: West Indies levelled the series 1-1 by defeating India by eight wickets at the second one-day international at Sabina Park Sunday. The game was dominated by West Indies from the start. A painstaking 95 from skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his defiant 101-run ninth-wicket partnership with Rudra Pratap Singh helped pull India out of a hole and reach a decent 188 after being 82 for eight.

Mumbai, June 28: Only Indian greats, left-arm spin magician Bishen Singh Bedi, prolific opener Sunil Gavaskar and champion all rounder Kapil Dev, have been named by the International Cricket Council in its 55-strong Hall of Famers list, which has 22 Englishmen in it.

The ICC, while announcing Colin Cowdrey as the 19th cricketer to be formally inducted in its elite list of cricket greats, provided the list of persons who have been chosen for the Hall of Fame, but yet to be formally inducted.

London calling Dr Shah Rukh!

Mumbai, June 28: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has been nominated to receive an honorary doctorate in arts and culture from Britain’s University of Bedfordshire.Shah Rukh, the first foreign actor to be conferred the Malaysian title of Datuk – akin to a British knighthood – last year, will receive his first doctorate July 10.

The actor was chosen for the doctorate by NGO Routes to Roots, a member of the World Association of Non-Governmental Organization (WANGO) that works closely with universities and educational trusts in various countries, said a press release.

Sanjay Dutt jumps off running train!

Mumbai, June 28: He is 49 and he still does daring stunts. Sanjay Dutt jumped off a speeding train blindfolded and with his hands tied behind his back – for a death-defying Rs.1.5 crore (Rs.15 million) scene in “Luck”.

According to director Soham Shah, Sanjay’s sequence is the “biggest and the most expensive” highlight of the film.

“It is Sanju’s (Sanjay’s) introductory sequence. Along with other actors, he jumps from a running train, blindfolded with his hands tied behind his back. The scene is about these characters testing their luck,” Shah said in a press statement.

Akki revives his long lost project

Mumbai, June 27: There’s no doubt that Akshay is a complete professional. Akki has recently completed his old shelved movie Purab Ki Laila Paschim Ka Chaila.

Akshay had given commitment to director Shabnam Kapoor and has finally completed shooting for the film. Apparently this old shelved film has been revived and renamed as Hello India.

Mumbai, June 27: Shah Rukh Khan is in no mood to take any more chances with his health. His film, Ra 1 to be directed by Anubhav Sinha, will only go on the floors next year as Shah Rukh has not recovered fully from his shoulder injury. As a result, the film will roll in mid 2010 instead of September 2009.
