Your bicycle ride could soon be stress-free as researchers have now designed a “mind-reading” helmet that could allow you to chart the least taxing routes of your travel.

Called MindRider, the helmet lets you create mind maps of your travels to identify the routes you find stress-free.

While the green “sweetspots” in the maps indicate where the rider was most relaxed, the red “hotspots” show where they required the most concentration.

Currently only a concept product, the “Tera” mat is embedded with LED lights and sensors that both track the user and guide them through fitness routines.

Developed by a Munich-based company Lunar Europe, the Tera syncs with an app that can instruct and track progress for activities including yoga, capoeira, and more.

The LED lights then react to this information, and illuminate to show the user where to position their hands.

Seven killed in Meghalaya bus accident

Seven people, including four women, were killed and 32 other people injured when an overcrowded bus rolled down a gorge in Meghalaya early Monday, police said.

The accident took place at Balsrigitim area near Baghmara, the district headquarters of South Garo Hills, about 350 km from state capital Shillong.

“Four people died on the spot and three others succumbed to their injuries at a hospital and 32 were injured,” district police chief Lakardor Syiem told IANS over phone.

Of the injured, three were in a critical condition and have been rushed to the Tura government hospital.

Cabinet panel names secretaries to three departments

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet Monday approved the assignment of three secretaries in various ministries, an official statement said.

The additional charge of the post of secretary of the department of fertilizers under the chemicals and fertilizers ministry was given to Indrajit Pal, the current secretary in the department of chemicals and petrochemicals.

Pal has been given additional charge for three months or until further orders, whichever is earlier, said the statement from the ministry of personnel, public grievances and pensions.

K-Pop festival’s third edition gets bigger

The third-edition of global festival K-Pop will be travelling to four cities for Indian auditions, the organisers said Monday.

Organised by the Korean Cultural Centre (KCC), this musical genre comprises of a wide variety of audio-visual elements that also include dance-pop, ballad, electronic, rock and hip-hop, and the Indian finale will be in August in the capital.

Visiting NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen Monday called for immediate release of the 80 Turkish hostages abducted from northern Iraq.

“We want to see all of the Turkish hostages released and we want to see them safe,” Xinhua quoted Rasmussen as saying at a joint press conference with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in Ankara.

Modi travelled in his armoured BMW in Thimphu

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi travelled in Thimphu in his specially designed armored BMW 7 that was flown into Bhutan.

The local media mentioned this, saying it was most secured edition of the vehicle in India, and said he used it also to go to Hejo Sunday evening to formally unveil the Supreme Court complex that was constructed with Indian funding. Modi unveiled the inaugural plaque, which was described as “a gesture that will be forever be engraved in Bhutanese hearts” by Supreme Court’s Chief Justice Lyonpo Sonam Tobgy.

Spain’s de Gea out for 10 days

Spain’s substitute goalkeeper David de Gea has sustained a first degree muscular strain which will keep him off the training field for 10 days.

The medical tests showed that de Gea’s injury, sustained Saturday, needs 10 days for recovery. As a consequence, the Manchester United goalkeeper will not be able to play the World Cup Group B matches against Chile and Australia, reports EFE.

Centre plans to turn eastern states into organic farming hub

The central government is planning to turn India’s eastern states into an organic farming-hub, union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh said here Monday.

“Our priority is to develop Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal and eastern Uttar Pradesh into an organic farming hub for development of the region and to provide opportunity to millions of farmers to earn more,” Singh told media persons.

Singh, who hails from Bihar, said organic farming has more scope and potential to change the face of the eastern states.

Petrol pump cashier looted of Rs.9 lakh in Gurgaon

A cashier of a petrol vend here was Monday looted of over Rs.9 lakh at gunpoint during the day, police said.

The cashier of Indian Oil petrol pump here on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway was looted by four men riding motorcycles.

“The cashier of the pump near Hero Honda chowk was on his way to the bank near Sector 10 to deposit nearly Rs.9.25 lakh in cash. He was intercepted by four men on two bikes, and the bag with the cash was robbed at gunpoint,” a senior police officer told IANS.

The heist happened on a crowded road around 11 a.m. The pump is located on way from Jaipur to Delhi.

Philippines lifts ban on workers’ deployment to Thailand

The Philippines government Monday lifted the deployment ban of Filipino workers to Thailand.

The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said it also lowered its crisis alert level from 2 to 1, Xinhua reported.

Under alert level 1, Filipinos in Thailand are advised to take necessary precautions, the department said.

“Given the continuing normalisation of the political situation in Thailand, including the lifting of the curfew nationwide last June 13, Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. del Rosario lowered the crisis alert level from 2 to 1,” the DFA said.

SC declines early hearing of Bihar’s plea against BCCI chief

A last ditch effort to stall Indian cricket board chief N. Srinivasan from contesting the election for the International Cricket Council’s chairman was frustrated as the Supreme Court Monday declined to hold an early hearing of a plea by the Cricket Association of Bihar.

An apex court bench of Justice Vikramajit Sen and Justice Shiva Kirti Singh described as “unfair” that the matter was being brought before it after the plea was rejected by an another bench earlier.

Sensex trades closes in red; capital goods stocks down

A benchmark index of Indian equities markets closed Monday’s marginally down at 37 points or 0.15 percent as capital goods and bank stocks declined.

However, healthy buying was observed in information technology (IT), healthcare and consumer durables stocks.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 25,239.50 points, closed trade at 25,190.48 points (provisional), down 37.69 points or 0.15 percent from previous day’s close at 25,228.17 point.

19 children die of encephalitis in Bengal

The number of children who have died of encephalitis in West Bengal’s Malda district has reached 19, an official said Monday.

“At least 19 children have died of encephalitis from June 3 to 16. The last death was reported Saturday night,” M.A. Rashid, vice principal-cum-superintending officer, Malda Medical College and Hospital (MMCH), told IANS.

The children, aged between two and four years, died due to swelling of the brain (encephalitis), according to the doctors at the MMCH.

Rashid said as many as 46 children were admitted to the hospital.

South Asian drug racket: Punjab claims heroin supply-chain broken

“Bacchu Mian”, “Bagga Chairman” and “Anaten” may not be common nicknames but Punjab Police have found that these names were part of a multi-million dollar drugs racket operating in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka even as they claimed to have broken the supply chain of heroin smuggling in the state resulting in “nil availability to consumers”.

With heroin seizures hitting an all-time high of 302 kg in less than six months this year, senior Punjab Police officials claim that the well-oiled drugs smuggling network in the state had been smashed.

Bhutan visit extremely successful: Swaraj

India Monday described as “extremely successful and entirely satisfying” Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bhutan and said it would strengthen Indo-Bhutan relations.

“This visit has been extremely successful and entirely satisfying. It has reinforced and .further strengthened Indo-Bhutan ties,” External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj told mediapersons here.

Swaraj said, during the two-day trip, the prime minister interacted with all the three wings of the democracy in Bhutan – the executive, the judiciary and the legislature.

Schumacher out of coma

Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher is out of coma and has left the Grenoble University Hospital here.

The 45-year-old German will, however, will continue his rehabilitation at an undisclosed location, according to BBC.

The seven-time F1 champion was placed in a medically induced coma after suffering a severe head injury in a skiing accident in the French Alps Dec 29.

His family and manager thanked people who had sent messages of support.
