Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared on Thursday that following his recent summit level interactions with Japan, China and the US, “investment worth 100 billion dollars had applied for a visa to India.”

Delivering the inaugural address at the “Invest Madhya Pradesh – Global Investors Summit – 2014” at Indore, the Prime Minister said that following his recent summit level interactions with Japan, China and the US, “investment worth 100 billion dollars had applied for a visa to India.” It is now upto the states to grab a share of this investment, he added.

New monetary policy framework by Dec

A new monetary policy framework is to be put in place by December, with the government setting the inflation target, to be implemented by a policy panel.

The finance ministry and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) are soon expected to sign a formal agreement under which the central bank will pursue the retail inflation target decided by the government.

“Since it is a Budget announcement, it has to be put in place by December. It will be a part of the Action Taken Report to be tabled in Parliament by January 15,” said a ministry official who did not wish to be identified.

Rs 2.50/litre cut in diesel rate likely after state elections

A Rs 2.50 per litre cut in diesel prices and a little less than Re 1 a litre on petrol is in offing as international oil rates fell to a 27-month low.

Prices may be cut after Maharashtra and Haryana assembly elections are completed on October 15, sources privy to the development said.

Benchmark Brent crude today slid by as much as $1.35 to $90.76 a barrel, its lowest level since June 2012. Prices have declined 18% this year.

Rajnath Singh approves lease of BSF land for three Kendriya Vidyalayas

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the providing of three acres of land on lease to the Kendriya Vidyalayas by the Border Security Force (BSF) each at Sunderbani (Jammu and Kashmir), Chakur (Maharashtra) and Aradhpur (West Bengal).

Presently, Kendriya Vidyalaya at Station Head Quarter, BSF, Sunderbani has started functioning from October 16, 2010 up to XIth standard. The Kendriya Vidyalaya at Chakur started on September 1, 2010 up to VIIIth standard whereas the Kendriya Vidyalaya at Aradhpur started on April 26, 2011 up to VIIIth standards.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Wednesday blamed the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) for doing injustice to the backward classes of Maharashtra in the 15 years of their rule in the state.

Air France puts cost of pilots strike at €500m

Air France has estimated that last month’s strike will cost it about €500m (£393m) in lost revenue.

The struggling French flag carrier was in dispute with pilots over plans to expand its budget subsidiary Transavia.

Finance director Pierre-Francois Riolacci said there would be an immediate impact of about 320-350m euros, plus loss of future business.

Shares in Europe’s second-biggest airline fell 2%, at one point touching the lowest level in a year.

The company has already cut its profit target for 2014.

India and Pakistan have sparred at the UN over ceasefire violations along the LoC with India making it clear that its armed forces are “fully ready” to respond to “provocation”.
India also said that the onus of creating a positive environment for normalisation of relations is on Pakistan.
War of words between the two countries over the situation at the Line of Control took place on Tuesday at the UN General Assembly where India said that it was a “matter of deep regret” that Pakistan violated the ceasefire, in which eight people were killed and several others injured.

Cyclone Hudhud heads to Andhra Pradesh, Odisha coast

An approaching cyclone will cross Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Odisha coast by Sunday noon and preparations have been made to meet the situation, authorities said on Wednesday.

“The deep depression over Andaman Sea and neighbourhood … intensified into a cyclonic storm Hudhud and lay centred at 8.30am today (Wednesday) over Andaman Sea and adjoining Bay of Bengal,” said an India Meteorological Department bulletin.
