Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh on Thursday said that people are making a ‘mountain out of a molehill’ over the delay of the Air India flight by Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju.

“Our flight got preponed following which we rushed there but the pilot behaved rudely with us and instigated passengers. A mountain of a molehill is being made out of this. I had a confirmed ticket; it isn’t a bus that they’ll shut the door. It needs to be enquired as to why they changed the time,” said Singh.

Inspired by the Gates Foundation, set up by Bill and Melinda Gates in 1997, Saudi Arabia’s billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal will donate his entire USD 32 billion fortune to charity.

The 60-year-old prince, who is one of the world’s richest persons, said that the money would be used to foster ‘cultural understanding’ and ‘provide vital disaster relief,’ among other things, reported the BBC.

Gates reacted to the statement, saying it was an inspiration to philanthropists around the globe.

Forbes has placed Prince Alwaleed on the 34th spot on the list of the world’s richest people.

PAHAL has reduced subsidised domestic sales of LPG by 25 percent: Arvind Subramanian

Chief Economic Advisor Arvind Subramanian on Thursday said that the introduction of the PAHAL scheme has reduced subsidised domestic sales of LPG across the country by close to 25 percent.

“On average, the direct benefit transfer for LPG has reduced subsidised domestic sales by about 25 percent. LPG has gone through three phases – originally it was called DBT, then it was suspended and now it has been reintroduced by the present government under PAHAL,” Subramanian said, while speaking at the UNDP Conference Hall in the national capital.

Scientists take inspiration from `insect legs` to perk up aircraft designs

To improve the safety of long tubular structures which are used in aircrafts and hospital equipments to reduce weight, researchers are taking ideas from insect legs.

Trinity College Dublin scientists looked at how different leg shapes of locusts, cockroaches, stick insects and bees bend and buckle when stress is applied to them.

Professor David Taylor said that thin-walled tubes were prone to failure by buckling and it was also difficult to predict the loading conditions which caused buckling, especially for tubes of non-standard cross section.

All three accused arrested in Badaun gangrape case

One more person was today arrested in connection with the alleged gangrape of a Dalit teenager and DNA samples of all the three accused have been sent for forensic examination, police said.

“While Ankit and Rishab were arrested on June 28, the main accused Shivam has been arrested today,” Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar Yadav said.

The DNA samples of all the three accused have been sent for forensic examination and another medical examination of the girl was also conducted to ascertain the fact of the case on directives of DIG, Bareilly range, RKS Rathore.

Rajasthan govt transfers 40 Urdu teachers to teach Sanskrit!

The Rajasthan government has transferred about 40 Urdu teachers to the post of Sanskrit teachers in its schools, drawing sharp criticism.

The Department of Secondary Education, however, has admitted that transfers were made by mistake and said it would be rectified soon.

Eleven second grade Urdu teachers in Bundi, 25 in Jhalawar and six in Baran have been transferred to other secondary and senior secondary government schools to the post of Sanskrit teachers, according to the transfer list released on the website of Directorate of Secondary Education on June 29.

3 Taliban militants get death penalty for NATO trucks attack

Three Taliban militants have been given an eight-time death sentence by a Pakistani court for attacking trucks carrying critical supplies for NATO troops in Afghanistan in 2010, officials said today.

Afraz-ur-Rehman, Ali Imran and Wajih-ur-Rehman, belonging to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militant group, were found guilty by a Rawalpindi Anti-Terrorist Court yesterday.

‘Al-Qaida’s Pakistan network head killed in security raid’

The head of Al-Qaida’s Pakistan wing has been killed in a raid by counter-terrorism commandos earlier this week near Lahore, foiling their plot to attack the offices of a spy agency, Punjab Home Minister said today.

Video shows Syria rebel group executing IS fighters

A Syrian rebel group operating around Damascus has executed 18 alleged members of the Islamic State group in a video mimicking the extremist organisation’s own productions.

The video, which emerged overnight, shows fighters from Jaysh al-Islam (Army of Islam) wearing the orange prison clothes that IS victims often sport.

The IS prisoners however are wearing black clothes and chained together wearing ankle and hand shackles with metal balls attached.

A Kochi-based IT startup has launched Ringr, a smartphone application that promises to revolutionise current Voice over Internet (VoIP) communications by its innovative data transfer technologies which can give clear audio quality even at low bandwidths.

Fingerprint sensor technology currently used in smartphones produces a two-dimensional image of a finger’s surface, which can be spoofed fairly easily with a printed image of the fingerprint.
