Kohli let off after anti-corruption code breach

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli was let off on Tuesday after being found guilty of violating the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) anti-corruption code.

Kohli met his girlfriend Bollywood star Anushka Sharma in the stands at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during a rain-break in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Delhi Daredevils on Sunday, violating the anti-corruption code.

The match was abandoned due to rain.

Kohli was informed of the violation by BCCI anti-corruption unit head Ravi Sawani, reports Cricinfo on Tuesday.

Amid heavy security, Zimbabwe arrives in Pak for their tour

The Zimbabwe cricket team arrived in Lahore on Tuesday, the first test-playing nation to tour Pakistan since a gun attack on Sri Lanka’s team bus in 2009 had left six policemen and a van driver dead.

Armed security personnel guarded airport and the entire route as they drove to the hotel.

During their tour, the tourists will play two Twenty-20 internationals and three ODIs. All the matches will be held in Lahore .

2 kg gold seized from air passenger at RGIA Hyderabad

An air passenger coming from Abu Dhabi was arrested by the Customs officials at Shamshabad International Airport on Monday for trying to smuggle 2 kg of gold.

With an intention to hoodwink the Customs officials at the Airport, the passenger hid gold biscuits in the place of cellphone batteries and tried to hoodwink the Customs officials. However, the officials detected the gold inside the cellphones and took him into custody for questioning.

Louisiana’s Indian-American Governor Bobby Jindal has taken another step towards a possible 2016 presidential run by forming an exploratory committee and launching a national website, www.bobbyjindal.com.

BCCI to announce team for Bangladesh tour on May 20

BCCI will announce the Test and one-day team for next month’s Bangladesh tour on Wednesday after the selection committee meeting in Mumbai.

75 cross LoC as part of Karvan-e-Aman in Kashmir

As many as 75 people Monday crossed the Line of Control (LoC) across the Aman Setu bridge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district as part of the Karvan-e-Aman (caravan of peace) between the parts of divided Kashmir, an official said.

“Of these, 42 are residents of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir who came here today (Monday) to meet members of their divided families. Five people crossed over to Muzaffarabad from our side to unite with members of their families living there,” a senior official told IANS on phone from Baramulla town.

Over 6,500 families displaced in Iraq’s Ramadi city

More than 6,500 families have been displaced as the Islamic State (IS) militant group has reached the Iraqi city of Ramadi, deputy UN spokesperson Farhan Haq said here on Monday.

Among the 6,500 families that have fled Ramadi, capital of Iraq’s largest province Anbar, over 3,300 families have moved towards the Fallujah area and more than 2,300 families travelled towards the Khalidiyah area, Xinhua quoted Haq as saying.

Khaldiyah Hospital has reported receiving many casualties, and the local authorities have requested assistance from the international agencies, Haq said.

Turkey to take Egypt’s Morsi verdict to UN

Turkey will take to the UN Human Rights Commission the verdict of death sentences on former Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi and 106 supporters of his Muslim Brotherhood, Turkish presidential spokesperson Ibrahim Kalin said on Monday.

“We are continuing our consultations firstly with Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other Gulf countries. We are reviewing current mechanisms for international initiatives. 33 IS terrorists killed in coalition bombing in Iraq

At least 33 Islamic State terrorists were killed in airstrikes carried out by the international coalition on Monday in the northern Iraqi province of Nineveh.

A militia leader from the Sinjar protection force, Luqman Kili al-Khansuri told Efe that the coalition launched more than seven air raids since Monday morning, targeting IS positions in the town of Sinjar, 120 km west of Mosul, provincial capital of Nineveh.

In addition to killing 33 IS militants, the air raids destroyed four of its bases and six of its military vehicles, according to al-Khansuri.

Iran seeks UN help for delivery of aid to Yemen

Iran called on Monday for the United Nations’ assistance to deliver humanitarian supplies to war-torn Yemen, media reported.

“The UN needs to create a protected zone in Yemen so that humanitarian aid could be delivered,” Iranian Tasnim News quoted Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif as saying in a joint press conference here.

It is time for the UN to take control of the situation in the impoverished Arab country, he said, adding that the international body should shoulder the responsibility for extending the truce in the Arab state.

SIT to probe Manoj Vashishtha encounter: Bassi

Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi on Monday said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) had been set up to probe the alleged encounter of wanted criminal Manoj Vashishtha at a restaurant in the national capital.

“We have formed SIT, its aim is clear that investigation should be conducted on merits and on top speed. Whatever we will do, that is going to be scrutinized by concerned court and National Human Rights Commission,” said Bassi .

Israeli army rules women incapable of driving tanks

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) has decided that women soldiers cannot drive tanks in light of an investigation that concluded that the task is “beyond their physiological limitation”, Israeli daily Haaretz reported on Monday.

The IDF recently conducted a series of physiological tests to determine which tasks may be prohibited for women, concluding that driving tanks is a job suitable only for men.

The military agreed for the first time last year to hold training courses for female soldiers in the elite artillery unit and the unit that operates small drones.

IS executes its judge in Syria

The Islamic State terrorist group has executed one of its prominent judges in its northern Syrian stronghold of Raqqa for being too “moderate”, Siraj Press reported on Monday.

The Sunni extremist group executed Turki al-Ani because he was too lenient, especially with alleged apostates, Siraj Press cited sources close to the Syrian opposition as saying.

Ani, known as Abu Abdallah, was killed after he issued passes to members of a group with alleged ties to the Syrian government, allowing them to move freely in Raqqa, Siraj Press said.

Teenaged girl killed in Bengal for rejecting advances

A 16-year-old girl was mowed down by a youth on a motorcycle in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district after she allegedly rejected his advances, police said Monday.

The incident happened under Canning police station area in the district on Sunday.

PNA, Hamas slam Netanyahu remarks on Jerusalem

The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and the Islamic Hamas movement on Monday slammed remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Jerusalem will remain under Israel’s jurisdiction.

Nabil Abu Rdineh, spokesman of the PNA presidency, said in a press statement that Netanyahu’s remarks contradict UN resolutions and violate international conventions, Xinhua news agency reported.

Zimbabwe cricketers head for historic tour of Pakistan via Dubai

Zimbabwe’s cricket team have left here to take part in tour of Pakistan, the first in that country in six years.

The Dawn quoted Zimbabwe Cricket Association spokesman Lovemore Banda, as saying on Monday that the team would reach Pakistan via Dubai on Tuesday.

Last week, there were doubts whether the five-match tour going ahead following the massacre of 45 Shias in an attack on a bus in Karachi.

It is the first tour of Pakistan by a Test-level team since seven Sri Lankan cricketers were wounded during a 2009 attack by militants in Lahore.
