Girl suffers acid attack in Bhopal, accused kills self

In a sensational incident in Bhopal, a girl suffered acid attack on Friday while the accused killed himself immediately after committing the crime.

The accused, identified as 47-year-old Sanjay Patil stabbed himself with a knife on the incident spot after the victim was rushed to trauma centre, the police said.

The victim has suffered 50 -55 percent burn injuries.

The incident took place near a local police station.

The victim said that she knew the accused for the past five to six years and lately he had started irritating her.

Army engineers have come-up with bomb-proof wallpaper that can help stop shrapnel injuries .

The prototype, designed by army engineers in the United States, is lightweight and could be easily transported to quickly line walls inside temporary buildings, the Mirror reported.

Justin Bronk, research analyst at the Royal United Services Institute, told a science website that the idea of coating the inside of structures to reduce the danger of debris to occupants is not new.

Rahul Gandhi to visit Kerala

Taking forward his proactive role, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi would undertake a two-day trip to Kerala next week, during which he is scheduled to meet fishermen and rubber growers.

Gandhi, who would visit the state on May 26-27, would begin the Kerala visit by addressing a youth Congress rally on May 26 evening in Calicut city.

“On May 27 morning, he will interact with fishermen in the coastal town of Chavakkad at Thrissur district,” senior Congress leader P.C. Chacko said.

“He would also address a meeting of fishermen on the beach,” Chacko told IANS.

Italy’s Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni on Friday said the government is concerned about the recent advances made by the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group in Iraq and in Syria, where a monitoring group says it now controls half the country.

S.D. Goswami, spokesman of the army’s Udhampur based northern command said, “The Raksha Mantri (defence minister) will begin his two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.

“Accompanied by the Chief of Army Staff, General Dalbir Singh Suhag, the Raksha Mantri (defence minister) will visit all the three regions of the state during this visit.

The US and Cuba on Thursday ended their latest round of talks on normalising relations and reopening embassies without results, but agreed to continue the negotiations on Friday, a State Department spokesperson said.

Astronomers discover most luminous galaxy in universe

US space agency NASA said on Thursday that its Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) telescope has discovered a remote galaxy that shines with the light of more than 300 trillion suns, making it the most luminous galaxy ever found.

The galaxy, known as WISE J224607.57-052635.0, belongs to a recently discovered new class of objects called extremely luminous infrared galaxies. NASA said its dazzling light may be due to a behemoth black hole at its belly, according to Xinhua.

FMCG major Nestle may face more action by the UP Food Safety and Drug Administration, which is testing more batches of Maggi after ordering recall of a batch of about 2 lakh packs of the instant noodles due to higher than permitted levels of lead and a food additive.

The UP FDA last month asked Nestle India to withdraw a batch of Maggi noodles “which were manufactured in February 2014” after it found high levels of added monosodium glutamate (MSG), a taste enhancer, in the noodles and lead beyond permissible limits.

‘Destruction of historic city of Palmyra begun’

The Islamic State terrorists have already begun damaging the Unesco World Heritage site of Palmyra in Syria since they seized the 18 centuries old city, according to a report from the region.

Palmyra’s remaining residents heard “large explosions” inside the ancient temples, according to the Samanews website, which is close to Palestinian militant group Hamas.

Most local people have left the area, the report said.

Unesco said any destruction to Palmyra would be “not just a war crime but…an enormous loss to humanity”.

Beef eaters can go to Pakistan: Naqvi

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Thursday justified ban on cow slaughter and asked all those who want to eat beef to go to Pakistan.

“It is not about loss or profit… it is an issue of faith and belief. It is a sensitive issue for the Hindus,” Naqvi said at ‘Manthan’ conclave organised by TV channel Aaj Tak.

“Those who are dying without eating beef, can go to Pakistan or Arab countries or any other part of world where it is available,” he said.

“Even Muslims are against it…” he contended.
