Blast targets Pakistan president’s son

Son of Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain escaped unhurt in bomb attack in southwestern Balochistan late on Sunday, police said.

Five policemen in the escort team of Talat Mamnoon and six other people were injured in the bomb blast at the industrial town of Hub, Xinhua reported.

Hub is nearly 31 km from the port city of Karachi.

A police officer, Abdul Rashid said that bomb was attached to a motorbike that targeted the security personnel of the Talat Mamnoon.

No group claimed responsibility. The authorities blame such attack on insurgents.

Mumbai celebrate IPL triumph at Eden with fireworks, confetti

Amid showering of confetti, fireworks and team huddles, Mumbai Indians celebrated their IPL trophy triumph at the Eden Gardens after a thumping 41-run win over Chennai Super Kings in the final on Sunday.

The celebrations had virtually started even before the last ball was bowled in the game, as Chennai lost one wicket after another and the asking rate soared.

In reply to Mumbai’s daunting 202/5, Chennai could only score 161/8.

After the fall of every Chennai wicket, the Mumbai players would rush towards the middle, with high fives, as they embraced and congratulated each other.

IPL final: Dhoni rues lack of individual match wining efforts

With Chennai Super Kings yet again ending up as the runners up in the IPL at the Eden Gardens here, skipper M S Dhoni on Sunday lamented lack of individual match wining efforts and said the team could not reach hundred percent level of efficiency.

Dhoni also attributed the second over bowled by Mohit Shrama to be a key factor wherein CSK conceded the momentum to Mumbai Indians who won the match by 41 runs to lift their second IPL crown.

The controversial hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru had been carried out for “political reasons” by the UPA government which had informed him only hours before, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah said today.

US Justice Department to probe Cleveland cop acquitted in ‘unarmed’ black deaths

A white Cleveland police officer accused of firing through the windshield of a suspect’s car at the end of a 137-shot volley of gunfire that killed the two black occupants has been acquitted, touching off angry protests and compelling the Justice Department to order a review of the case.

After Officer Michael Brelo was cleared of voluntary manslaughter charges, the Justice Department said that they will now review the testimony and evidence presented in the state trial to find out if “additional steps are available and appropriate,” reported Fox News.

Deadly rainfall battering South China to abate starting today

The National Meteorological Center (NMC) has predicted that the deadly downpour that has wreaked havoc in south China, killing at least 35 people so far, will start to weaken today.

The NMC although removed the alert for rainstorms on Sunday morning but said that heavy rains will continue to lash some parts of Guangdong and Fujian provinces, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Taiwan , reported Xinhua.

Rainstorms that have been battering large parts of South China since May 4 have broken a 40-year rainfall record. (ANI)

Punia dubs Alirajpur Dalit incident as ‘unconstitutional’

Congress leader P.L. Punia on Sunday termed the Alirajpur incident, wherein few Dalits in the area alleged that they were not allowed to use a public borewell, as ‘unconstitutional’ adding that the Madhya Pradesh Government did not like people who supported the scheduled caste.

“This is wrong, unconstitutional and a crime. We will make sure that he people who are responsible for this are investigated. Madhya Pradesh Government does not like people that support the Dalits,” Punia told ANI.

“The Government is only with the ‘Dabangg’ people,” he added.

BJP alleges mistrust between former PM, ministers during UPA regime

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday said that there was a lack of trust between the ministers and former prime minister Manmohan Singh during the UPA regime adding that the position of the latter was reduced to a ridicule.

“During the previous government there was mistrust between the Ministers and the Prime Minister. The Ministers did not have faith in the Prime Minister,” BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra told the Media.

“The way the position of Prime Minister was reduced to ridicule was something the country saw first time during tenure of Dr.Manmohan Singh,” he added.

Faster heart rate indicates higher diabetes risk

People with faster resting heart tare are at an increased risk of developing diabetes, warns a new study.

Each additional 10 beats per minute is associated with 23 percent increased risk of diabetes, similar to the effects of a three kilogram per metre square increase in body mass index (BMI), the findings showed.

“In this study, we measured resting heart rate among about 100,000 Chinese adults and followed them for four years,” said study senior author Xiang Gao, associate professor of nutritional sciences at Pennsylvania State University in the US.

A 65-year-old German woman has given birth to quadruplets and already has 13 kids and seven grandchildren.

Annegret Raunigk, who gave birth to three boys and one girl through Caesarean procedure prematurely, went under an artificial insemination procedure initially for conceiving, the BBC reported.

The mother previously said that she decided to try for another baby because her youngest daughter, who was 9-year-old, wanted a little brother or sister.

US commander: IS actively recruiting in Afghanistan

The commander of international forces in Afghanistan says the Islamic State group is actively recruiting in Afghanistan but is not yet operational there.

General John F. Campbell said on Saturday the group’s sophisticated social media campaign is attracting Taliban fighters in Afghanistan and Pakistan who are disgruntled with the lack of progress in more than 10 years of fighting to overthrow the Kabul government.

He says many are pledging allegiance to the Islamic State group, which controls about a third of Syria and Iraq.

Pak court extends PPP leader’s bail for a week

A Pakistani court today accepted a plea by disgruntled PPP leader and former Sindh home minister Zulfiqar Mirza, granting extension of his protective bail for a week in connection with cases filed under anti-terrorism laws.

The Sindh High Court asked authorities not to arrest Mirza, a former central executive committee member of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), during the period of his bail and ordered the provincial government to provide fool-proof security to the former minister.
