No decision on CLT20 yet, shall take call in game’s interest: BCCI

The Indian cricket board has not yet taken a final decision on whether to scrap the Champions League Twenty20. It would take a call after more deliberations, dwelling on bettering the tournament or getting a replacement for it, an official said on Monday.

“We have not done away with the Champions League T20. It is all media speculation that the tournament is being scrapped. We are thinking about what to do with the tournament. We will take a call in the interest of cricket,” Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Anurag Thakur said here.

US vows to help Iraq retake lost territories

US Vice President Joseph Biden has pledged “full support” for Iraqi efforts to retake territories lost to the Islamic State, as Baghdad bristled at the Pentagon chief’s criticism of Iraqi forces over the battle against the extremist group.

In a phone call with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on Monday , Biden reiterated “full US support” for Iraqi liberation efforts, including “the expedited provision of US training and equipment” to help combat the Islamic State’s use of truck bombs in fighting, Xinhua reported cited White House statment.

Turkey, US agree to give air cover to Syrian rebels

Turkey and the US have in “principle” agreed to provide air support to mainstream Syrian rebels being trained and equipped to fight Islamic State militants, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said here on Monday.

“They have to be supported via air. If you do not protect them or provide air support, what is the point?” he told Daily Sabah newspaper during a visit to Seoul.

He did not go into details on what “in principle” meant or what kind of air cover would be provided or by whom.

AAP Govt. has failed in delivering its promises: BJP

Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP) leader Satish Upadhyay on Monday said that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP Government which had earlier promised to address over 70 issues have come down to just 11 adding that the latter had failed to deliver what they had promised.

“Today Kejriwal has come down to 11 issues from the 70 issues he had promised to address. This was an event to build his own image; this was their way to waste the hard earned money of Delhi’s people. Now they have to give details of the expense of this event,” said Upadhyay.

AAP lists 100 days’ achievements, Kejriwal slams Modi

On completion of 100 days in power, Delhi’s AAP government on Monday listed its achievements and outlined its policies for the capital, even as Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for running a “dictatorial” government.

Emboldened by the Delhi High Court’s observation saying that the Lt. Governor cannot rule Delhi on legislative matters, Kejriwal said the BJP-led central government was trying to impose dictatorship in the city by issuing diktats.

Allow screening of Kashmir documentary: HC to censor board

The Delhi High Court on Monday asked the censor board to issue a certificate for public screening to documentary film “Textures of Loss” which is based on the violence in Jammu and Kashmir.

Justice Rajiv Shakdher directed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to issue a certificate of screening to the movie without deletion of any scenes.

The court’s order came on a plea filed by filmmaker Pankaj Butalia who challenged the censor board’s refusal to clear his documentary “Textures of Loss”.

Singapore unveils master plan for new Andhra capital

The Singapore government on Monday unveiled the master plan for Amravathi, the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh.

The master plan was submitted by Singapore’s Second Minister for Trade and Industry S.Iswaran to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

To come up on the banks of Krishna River and between the existing cities of Vijayawada and Guntur, the capital city will have world-class infrastructure and it will be developed with extensive use of technology, said Naidu. He added that this will be truly people’s capital.

Star Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal is all set to defend her women’s singles title when she takes to the court at the $750,000 Australian Open Superseries, which commences here on Tuesday.

Iranian women urge UN to halt Saudi-led airstrikes on Yemen

Hundreds of Iranian women rallied in front of the UN office in Tehran on Monday to protest against Saudi Arabia-led airstrikes on Yemen.

The protestors, in black robes, held placards condemning the Saudi-led airstrikes on Yemen and offering support to the Yemeni people, Xinhua news agency reported.

They urged the UN to put an end to the airstrikes and the bloodshed in Yemen, chanting slogans against Saudi Arabian, US and Israeli authorities.

“We Iranian women want to give our support to Yemeni women,” said Zahra Abbasi, a leader of the protestors.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday welcomed the Delhi High Court ruling which said that the Centre and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) have no right to interfere with state’s anti-corruption unit.

“Yesterday, our government completed 100 days of governance, so I thought it was our responsibility to share our work with you. Both kidneys of minor removed, doctor claims she had only one

Defying his own hospital’s report, which showed complications in one of the kidneys of a six-year-old girl, a doctor at AIIMS allegedly removed both the kidneys and later claimed that the patient had just one. The hospital has denied having knowledge of the incident.

Deepika, a resident of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, had clear reports from a local health centre as well as the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) showing that she had complications in her left kidney while the right one was functioning well.

UN chief praises Ireland’s marriage equality referendum

Visiting UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has praised the result of Ireland’s marriage equality referendum, describing it as “truly historic moment”.

“This is a truly historic moment: Ireland has become the first country in the world to approve marriage equality in a nationwide referendum,” Ban said on Sunday after he accepted the Tipperary International Peace Award in Ballykisteen, south Ireland’s County Tipperary.

“The result sends an important message to the world: All people are entitled to enjoy their human rights no matter who they are or whom they love,” he said.

CM’s Relief Fund – thousands of applications are pending

More than 5000 applications of poor patients for getting treatments in corporate hospitals are pending in CM’s Office. The relatives of the patients have already completed formalities. It is reported that due to lack of sufficient staff in CM’s office, these applications could not be finalized . Rs. 20000 to Rs. 1 lakhis granted from CM’s relief fund for poor patients. Pak defeats Zimbabwe by two wickets in second T20

Mukhtar Ahmed’s fifty and Bilawal Bhatti’s blistering 13 off five deliveries helped Pakistan defeat Zimbabwe by two wickets in a nail biting T20 encounter at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

With this win, Pakistan won the two-match T20 series 2-0. Chasing the target of 176, Pakistan eventually reached there with two balls to spare.

The Congress on Sunday accused the central government of being a “hypocrite” and promoting “crony capitalism”.

Addressing a press conference on the eve of the BJP-led government completing one year in office, Congress leader Anand Sharma said Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself stands accused of promoting crony capitalism in his various visits abroad.

Jayalalithaa launches 201 Amma Canteens, populist schemes

A day after she was sworn in as chief minister, J. Jayalalithaa on Sunday inaugurated 201 Amma Canteens and various populist schemes across the state via video conferencing.

She launched a scheme to sell 500 gm packets of “A” grade lentils (pigeon pea) and black gram at subsidised rates of Rs.53.50 and Rs.56, respectively.

According to a statement issued by the state government, “B” grade black gram would be sold at Rs.49.50 per 500 gm packet.

The pulses would be sold through state government cooperative stores.

Feel sad to not see KKR at Eden: SRK

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, co-owner of Kolkata Knight Riders, on Sunday expressed sadness at his team failing to make it to the Indian Premier league final at its home Eden Gardens.

“Just realised how sad it feels not to see KKR at The Eden,” SRK tweeted.

The Bollywood hero, who watched the match on television with his son Abram, extended good wishes to both finalists Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
