Iran sends 15,000 fighters to Syria: Report

Iran has despatched 15,000 fighters to Syria to help government troops reverse recent battlefield defeats to a rebel-Jihadi coalition, reported Lebanon’s Daily Star newspaper on Thursday citing a source.

The force, made up of Iranians, Iraqis and Afghanis arrived in the Damascus area and in the coastal province of Latakia, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s heartland, according to the Lebanese political source.

Nestle withdraws Maggi noodles, still says safe

Nestle India early on Friday said it was withdrawing Maggi noodles in the country amid nation-wide scrutiny over more-than-permissible limits of lead, but continued to maintain it was safe and that it would be back on store shelves soon.

“Maggi noodles are completely safe and have been trusted in India for over 30 years. The trust of our consumers and the safety of our products is our first priority,” the company said in a statement in the early hours of Friday.

Kohli-led Indian Test team to arrive tomorrow

Indian Test cricketers led by Virat Kohli will arrive in batches here tomorrow afternoon as they would assemble here for a two-day camp before heading to Dhaka on Monday morning for the one-off Test against Bangladesh.

“They will arrive in batches and there will be practice on Saturday and Sunday. They will take a 7.45am flight to Dhaka on Monday,” a source said today.

The Indian Test skipper, Kohli, is slated to address a news conference on the eve of the departure, while there may also be an Open Session in the evening.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Thursday said the whole country stands with the families of the martyrs of the Manipur attack.

“It’s a very sad thing, we sympathize with them, the whole country is with them. They are brave people who have sacrificed themselves for the country,” said Doval.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had also condemned the attack on army personnel.

At least 18 Army men were killed and 11 injured after unidentified militants ambushed an army convoy of the 6 Dogra Regiment in Manipur’s Chandel District.

J-K joins list of states banning Maggi

After Gujarat, Delhi and Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir is the latest state to ban Maggi noodles.

As per reports, Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Choudhary Zulfkar Ali has issued directives for the random collection of Maggi noodle samples from across the state for laboratory testing, results of which should be out within the 48 hours.

The Gujarat Government had earlier banned the storage and sale of Maggi noodles for a month after its samples failed in laboratory test.

Nawaz Sharif inaugurates transit metro service between Rawalpindi, Islamabad

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated the transit metro bus service from Rawalpindi to Islamabad today.

According to Dawn News, the ceremony was held at the Convention Centre in Islamabad.

More than 4,000 trees were cut down to make way for the metro bus in both the cities.

Many green belts in Islamabad and several parks in Rawalpindi were devastated due to the construction work.

The total length of the Metro Bus Corridor is approximately 23km, including 8.6km elevated, 10km at grade and four kilometre trench.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday announced that Delhi would be a world class city in the next four years.

“As I had said during the elections, we will make Delhi one of the best cities in the world,” the chief minister said while introducing mechanical road sweepers.

Karachi at standstill on day two of MQM custodial death-linked strike

Pakistan’s commercial capital Karachi was at a standstill on Thursday after the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) called for two days of mourning over the death of a party worker in police custody.

According to the Dawn, the MQM announced that all businesses will remain closed.

Various university exams have also been postponed until further notice.

On Wednesday, the party had called for a two-day mourning period after receiving news of the death of a party worker at the Aziz Bhatti police station.

Coalition airstrikes destroy IS car-bomb factory in Iraq

Airstrikes launched by the US-led international coalition struck an Islamic State (IS) car-bomb factory in northern Iraq, a security official told Efe news agency on Thursday.

Raids launched Wednesday night hit large amounts of explosives in the factory, triggering a series of blasts in al-Hauija town, 70 km southwest of the oil city of Kirkuk.

The security official added there was no information to confirm the number of casualties in the attack, as the area was completely controlled by IS.

Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Thursday said safety checks on Maggi instant noodles had been ordered, adding that action in the matter would be taken only after test reports were in.

Ties with India will improve: Pakistan army chief

A day after declaring that Kashmir was an “unfinished agenda of Partition”, Army chief Gen. Raheel Sharif on Thursday promised an improvement in relations with India but warned that Islamabad will not be intimidated by recent statements emanating from New Delhi.

After a joint session of parliament, Sharif told media that in the coming days there would be an improvement in relations with India, Geo News reported.

Sharif said there was no reason to be worried about the recent attitude exhibited by India as the Pakistani Army was capable of responding to any form of aggression.

Army asks personnel not to consume Maggi

The Army today issued an advisory asking its personnel not to consume Maggi noodles and directed military canteens to set aside the existing stock of the popular snack until further orders.

The order issued in the evening, comes in the wake of a controversy over alleged presence of lead and taste enhancer monosodium glutamate (MSG) in the noodles beyond permissible limits.

The order, in a fresh setback to brand owner Nestle, covers over 1000 army canteens and the complete 13-lakh strong army.

“The advisory is effective till further order,” an Army official said.

The evaluators of answer script pertaining to class X and XII committed a blunder by adding 2 and 2 resulting in 3. It resulted in failing more than 65000 students.

This simple mistake highlights the carelessness of the teachers. These mistakes was identified when the marks were totaled once again while being fed into computers.
It took a lot of time for undertaking re-counting exercise of all the answer scripts.

It is very surprising that after the valuation of these scripts, two more persons checked it but they could not detect the mistake.

Minor raped by maternal uncle

A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her maternal uncle in Gurgaon and Ballabgarh area, police said today.

The girl, a resident of sector-55 here, complained that in December 2014 and last week of May 2015 she was raped by her maternal uncle Rambabu, police said.

The girl was taken by her another maternal uncle Khoobchand to his place in UP as his wife was pregnant and she needed a person to attend her, they said. Khoobchand later dropped her at the residence of his elder brother Baburam in Kakrol near Gurgaon, they said.
