Hamas taken off terror organisation list

An Egyptian appeals court has cancelled a ruling to list the Palestinian group Hamas as a terrorist organization.

According news24, judicial sources have been quoted, as saying that Cairo has for many years played a central role in engineering ceasefires between Israel and Hamas, which dominates the Gaza Strip, including a truce reached between the sides in August that ended a 50-day Gaza war.

Migrant crisis: Warships rescue thousands off Libya coast

European warships and coast guard vessels have reportedly rescued over 2,000 migrants off the coast of Libya.

The BBC quoted the Malta-based, Migrant Offshore Aid Station, as saying that Italian, Irish and German ships were used in the rescue effort.

It said that that Her Majesty’s Ship Bulwark, a British Royal Navy ship, is also making its way towards Libya to assist.

The Bulwark has already saved almost 1,800 people over the past month.

A Muslim lost the job in Kolkata for growing beard

Mr. Mohammed Ali Ismail was working as General Manager (Mines) with Adhunik Group of Industries in Kolkata for the past 6 years. He went to Saudi Arabia for performing Hajj in May 2014. On his return, he grew beard. After joining duty his salary was reduced to 50%. It continued till March 2015. He sought audience with the MD of the firm, Mr. Manoj Agarwal and requested him to give the arrears of his salary. He was thrown out with the help of security guard and he was declared a terrorist.

ACB grills Revanth Reddy

Anti-Corruption Bureau of Telangana State grilled TDP MLA, Mr. Revanth Reddy who was arrested in Cash-for-Vote case. ACB took Revanth Reddy in police custody for four days. IS using chlorine as chemical weapon: Bishop

Australia Foreign Minister Julie Bishop on Saturday said the Islamic State was using chlorine in attacks and recruiting highly trained technical experts to make chemical weapons.

“The use of chlorine by Daesh, and its recruitment of highly technically trained professionals, including from the West, have revealed far more serious efforts in chemical weapons development,” she said.

Ms. Bishop described the group as one of the “gravest security threats we face today”.

Four Hindu girls passed Urdu in ICSE exams

Four Hindu girls of Dr A R Undre English High School (ICSE) and Junior College (ISC) at Borli Panchatan village in Raigad district (Maharastra) which offers Urdu as an optional subject at ICSE board examination registered success in Urdu language. One of the students, Samruddhi Shyam Waghmare secured 90% marks in Urdu. She was the topper in that subject in her class leaving two marks behind Madiha Muazzam Undre who was the overall topper in the class of 64 students.

Ramdin calls on Windies to ‘toughen up’ ahead of second Test

West Indies skipper Denesh Ramdin has called on his team mates to put up a better display of cricket in the second and final Test match against Australia next week in Jamaica.

West Indies suffered a nine-wicket defeat on Saturday inside three days in the first Test in Dominica.

Debutant Australian batsman Adam Voges was adjudged Man of the Match for scoring his maiden century (130 not out) in the first innings.

Seven dead as massive fire erupts in Mumbai high-rise

At least seven people were killed and 25 others injured in a massive blaze that broke out on the fourteenth floor of the 22-storey Lake Home housing society in Mumbai’s Chandivali on Saturday.

Eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the fire is reportedly under control now.

“In all 32 people were affected by the fire, out of them seven are dead (five men and two women). Out of the seven that were killed in the fire, five were inside the lift and in the common passages,” said PS Rahangdale, chief PRO, Fire Service told ANI.

Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar on Saturday said that Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had expressed her appreciation for New Delhi’s Neighbourhood First policy.

“The Prime Minister of Bangladesh expressed her appreciation for our Neighbourhood First policy. Many agreements were signed by the two nations. Initiatives were also taken in trade and investment sector,”

Class 9th girl gang-raped by school mates

A ninth standard girl was allegedly raped by two youth in Dankaur area here today.

The victim had gone for shopping at a local market when the two youth, who also studied in her school, met her and asked her to accompany them at a room, police said.

The girl was allegedly raped by them at the room and later on hearing her screams some neighbours came to her rescue, police said.

On seeing the neighbours the accused fled from the spot.

Police said that a manhunt has been launched to arrest the two youth and the victim has been sent for medical examination.

Rains lash Andhra, Telangana; conditions conducive for monsoon

Heavy rain lashed parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on Saturday, Met officials said, as conditions became conducive for further progress of monsoon in the two states.

Some parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh received rainfall of over six cm since Friday. The pre-monsoon showers further brought down temperatures and cheered the people in the two states, where a searing heat wave claimed over 2,200 lives this summer.

However, the heavy rains inundated low-lying areas and hit normal life in East Godavari district in coastal Andhra Pradesh. The gales damaged banana crops in the region.

World number one Serena Williams has bagged her 20th Grand Slam title after beating her Czech opponent Lucie Safarova in the French Open final in thrilling three sets here on Saturday.

The American battled past the flu to beat 13th seed Safarova 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 6-2 in a contest that lasted two hours and one minute, the BBC reported.

Although Safarova wrestled her way back into the game brilliantly to win the second set, Serena outwitted her opponent in the decider by winning the last six games.

Uttar Pradesh Minister Totaram Yadav on Saturday ignited controversy by saying that rapes happen with mutual consent.

“There is nothing like rape. Rapes happen with mutual consent,” he told reporters.

His comment drew instant flak from activists and other leaders who termed it shameful and deplorable.

“UP Minister Totaram Yadav’s statement is deplorable and shameful. But I think this is his party-line because other leaders of his party have also made such statement,” said lawyer and activist Abha Singh.

Modi gifts Hasina hand-woven tapestry

Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina a hand-woven tapestry from Venkatagiri, Andhra Pradesh.

It has been woven in the Jamdani style — the famous traditional sari of Bangladesh, Modi said on his personal website where he posted the photo of this artwork on Saturday.

Modi presented the gift before the two leaders sat for a meeting.

Located in Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh, Venkatagiri is famous for handlooms, and its weavers have adopted the fine Jamdani weaving technique while assimilating traditional designs of the region.
