Congress CMs meet to target Modi regime on economy, farmers’ issues

The meeting of Congress chief ministers on Tuesday is expected to discuss “economic mismanagement” and “anti-people” policies of Narendra Modi government with contentious issue of land and the GST bills also likely to be taken up.

The meeting of chief ministers, the first since the Congress lost the Lok Sabha elections last year, will also deliberate on “cuts” in the allocation for social sector by the National Democratic Alliance government.

AAP government slams LG over appointing new ACB chief

The appointment of the new Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) chief by Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung on Monday drew flak from the AAP government.

“What is the conspiracy by creating a new post of joint commissioner in the ACB and appointing your favorite officers,” Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia tweeted.

“Has the appointment been done because of the fear of CNG case being probed by the ACB?” he asked.

Joint Commissioner M.K. Meena replaced S.S. Yadav as the new head of the anti-graft wing, with Jung also transferring seven inspectors to the department.

Israeli-Palestinian peace means boon for their economies: Study

A peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians based on the two-state solution would boost their economies by more than $150 billion, a new study by a US-based think tank revealed on Monday.

The study, conducted by researchers from the Rand Corporation, an American think tank developing solutions for public policy challenges for a safer world, found that Israel would gain $123 billion and the Palestinian Authority would garner $50 billion by ending the conflict.

Pappu Yadav to float new political party tomorrow

Expelled Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Pappu Yadav is set to announce a new political party tomorrow, in his attempt to emerge as a third force in the upcoming Bihar Assembly polls.

According to reports, Yadav is planning to turn ‘Jan Kranti Adhikar Morcha’, an outfit he had floated recently, into a political party.

Andhra, Telangana CMs in war of words over audio tape

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and his Telangana counterpart K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday indulged in a bitter war of words over an audio tape related to the cash-for-vote scam.

Within minutes after Naidu claimed that he has equal rights on common capital Hyderabad, Rao hit back at him with the remark “Hyderabad is not your father’s property”.

“You are not chief minister of Hyderabad. Telangana bidda (son of Telangana) is the chief minister,” Rao said addressing a public meeting at Nalgonda on Monday night.

Israel tests ‘dirty bombs’ in desert

Israel recently carried out at least 20 test explosions in its southern desert to measure the damage that would be inflicted by a so-called “dirty bomb” attack, Israeli newspaper Ha’aretz reported on Monday.

The dirty bomb, or radiological dispersal device, is a speculative weapon that combines widely-used radiological materials with conventional explosives.

According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, no country or organisation has ever used it.

Europe will continue sanctions on Russia says Obama

US President Barack Obama on Monday said he will convince European leaders to maintain economic sanctions on Russia, even as US officials concede the measures have done little to curb aggression by separatists in Eastern Ukraine.

The extension of sanctions was a chief goal of the US President at this week’s G7 meeting in the Bavarian Alps, where leaders huddled in a castle high above Munich to discuss Russia, Islamic State and other pressing global issues, CNN reported.

Patna records hottest temperature since 2006

Bihar continued to reel under a heat wave with the mercury touching 44.9 degrees in Gaya district on Monday, followed by 44.7 degrees in Patna, where it broke a nearly 10-year-old record, met officials here said. No respite is in sight soon.

Patna Met office director A.K. Sen said that heat wave will continue for across Bihar for the next 48 hours to Wednesday evening. “We have issued a warning that heat wave will continue,” he said, ruling out any possibility of rain in the next two days.

“The temperatures is likely to hover around the same on Saturday,” he said.

Syria conflict: 49 civilians killed in government air strikes

At least 49 civilians, including six children, were killed in air strikes carried out by the government forces in north-west Syria, rights watch group has said.

The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights claimed that missiles targeted a public square in the rebel-held village of Al Janudiya, where several people had gathered to go shopping, reported the BBC.

The village is located in the west of Idlib province, which is now almost entirely controlled by rebels.

Syrian government has declined to comment on the reports.

Congress won’t contest Tamil Nadu by-election

The Congress on Monday joined the DMK and PMK in keeping itself away from contesting against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa in the Radhakrishnan Nagar bye-election here on June 27.

Tamil Nadu Congress chief E.V.K.S. Elangovan alleged that the election would not be held in a free and fair manner.

The Congress did not take part in the 2011 election from Radhakrishnan Nagar seat which was won by AIADMK’s Vetrivel (83,761 votes). The runner up DMK’s P.K.Sekarbabu, who got 52,426 votes.

Nobel Peace Prize winner and educational activist Malala Yousafzai on Monday spoke up for the rights of Rohingya Muslims, urging influential world leaders to take action against the persecution of the minority group.

“I stand with the Rohingyas, and I encourage people everywhere to do so,” , Dawn reported quoted Malala as saying in a statement released by the Malala Fund.

“I call on the leaders of Myanmar and the world to take immediate action to halt the inhuman persecution of Burma’s Muslim minority Rohingya people,” she said.

Nawaz Sharif to visit Tajikistan for talks

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will leave for Dushanbe on Tuesday on a two-day official visit to Tajikistan, an official announcement said here on Monday.

Sharif will visit Tajikistan after an invitation from Tajik Prime Minister Qohir Rasulzoda, the foreign ministry said in a statement.

He will also meet President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon. The two leaders will hold a tete-a-tete and delegation-level talks.

South Korea MERS cases surge to 87

South Korea’s health ministry on Monday confirmed 23 more cases of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome — MERS virus, bringing the total to 87 in the country.

Out of the 23, 17 were from the same Seoul hospital emergency room where the country’s first patient was hospitalised from May 15 until being confirmed MERS-positive on May 20, the ministry said.

The remaining six new cases came from two hospitals in Daejeon city, Xinhua reported.

An 80-year-old man who had tested positive for MERS, also from Daejeon, died on
Monday, taking the number of deaths from the outbreak to six.

Richardson says ICC cannot compel either India or Pak to resume cricketing ties

International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive David Richardson has said that although the world cricketing body is hoping for a revival of India and Pakistan cricketing ties, it cannot meddle in the matters that come under the jurisdiction of boards from both countries.

Richardson said that they realise just how important it is for world cricket to have regular matches between Pakistan and India but unfortunately the ICC cannot interfere in this matter as it is a bilateral matter purely between two boards, the Dawn reported.

Rajnath Singh in Lucknow on two-day visit

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will arrive in the state capital on Monday on a two-day visit, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson said.

The minister, also a local Lok Sabha member, would be laying the foundation stone of developmental works from his MPLAD fund at the Rani Laxmibai School and will inaugurate the newly-constructed Balaji temple at Kakori, on the outkirts of the city.

EDCET results on 25th June

Prof. P. Prasad, Convener of EDCET told that the results of B.Ed entrance test would be announced on 25th June. Its key will be released on 11th June. Any objections would be received upto 18th June. He further informed that 64,231 candidates had applied for the test out of which 57,884 took the test. The test was held at 134 examination center in all the 10 districts of Telangana. Convener also informed that Prof. E. Suresh Kumar, in charge Registrar of Osmania University inspected various examination centers and took stock of the arrangements made for the test.

OU PG Entrance Tests begin tomorrow

Osmania University is conducting entrance test for admission to various PG courses of Osmania, Telangana and Mahatma Gandhi Universities. BJP to contest Warangal Lok Sabha seat

Senior BJP leader and former Mayor, Mr. Rajeshwar Rao told that BJP has announced to contest Warangal Lok Sabha seat which has been vacated by Mr. K. Sri Hari who joined Telangana Cabinet after joining TRS. He said that BJP expects that TDP will leave the seat for BJP.
