Israel committed to two-state solution: Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday reiterated his commitment to the two-state solution, saying there were no preconditions to renew negotiations with Palestinians.

Netanyahu said at the annual Herzliya Conference that he was committed to the two-state solution and had been “trying to speak substantively to (Palestinian) President Mahmoud Abbas for six years,” calling Abbas to “return to talks without preconditions”, Xinhua quoted the Israeli prime minister as saying.

Sharif approves $5 million assistance for Rohingya Muslims

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has approved all the recommendations of the special committee to solve the plight of Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar including assistance of $5 mn, an official statement said here on Tuesday.

The announcement was made after Islamic nations have expressed concerns over the treatment of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

Sharif would be writing a letter to the UN secretary general drawing his attention to the issue, said the statement issued by the prime ministers office.

‘Will drink poison to stop BJP’, says Lalu

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Tuesday challenged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to name their chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming Bihar polls, adding that he would even drink poison to stop the latter.

“If I will have to drink poison to remove BJP, I can do so,” said Lalu.

“If BJP has the guts, they should also declare their chief ministerial candidate. They don’t have the guts to do so. We have named our CM candidate in front of everyone,” he added.

Fresh twist in degree drama as Tomar resigns

Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar on Tuesday tendered his resignation from his post, shortly after being sent to four-day police custody in connection with the alleged fake degree case.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had accepted Tomar’s resignation.

“Jitendra Singh Tomar put in his papers a while back. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has accepted the resignation. We shall forward his resignation letter to the LG tomorrow morning,” said Sisodia.

Moeen Ali backs Ajmal to return to his best

Despite being out of favour with the national selectors, Pakistani cricketer Saeed Ajmal has won the support and confidence of returning to his ‘best’ from his Worcestershire team-mate Moeen Ali.

Ali believes that Ajmal was just ‘a four-day game away from getting back to his best’, the Dawn reported, adding that it was ‘brilliant’ to have the 37-year-old back in the side and reiterating his opinion that Ajmal is one of the best spinners in the world

One of Asia’ biggest cancer care institution, Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) will now offer online cancer treatment options from top experts, an official said here on Tuesday.

TMC has partnered with Navya Network, a clinical informatics and patient services company, to launch the consultation service, TMC Online, to provide expert decision system for cancer patients, said TMC director Rajendra A. Badwe.

Pakistan slams Modi’s statement in Dhaka

Pakistan on Tuesday slammed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s acknowledgement of his country’s involvement in the 1971 war, saying his statement confirms India’s negative role against a sovereign neighbouring state.

“Indian politicians not only indulge in actions that are in violation of the United Nations’ Charter but also take pride in recalling their interference in the internal affairs of other states,” Foreign Office spokesperson Qazi M. Khalilullah said in a statement here.

BNP slams Sheikh Hasina Govt. for failing to ink Teesta deal

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has reportedly slammed the Sheikh Hasina-led government for its failure to ink a deal on sharing of Teesta river water with India.

BNP spokesperson Asaduzzaman Ripon said at a press briefing that the whole nation was disappointed, reported The Daily Star.

A total of 22 deals were signed between New Delhi and Dhaka, including the much-awaited Land Boundary agreement, during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Bangladesh.

Maryam Siddiqui, the 12-year-old Thane schoolgirl who in March topped a competition testing knowledge of the Bhagwad Gita, has decided to donate her cash rewards for the cause of girl education.

Siddiqui has been showered with felicitations, awards and honours from around the country, starting from President Pranab Mukherjee, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi, several chief ministers, and a plethora of organisations.

However, the girl, hailing from a Mira Road town middle-class family, has decided to give away all the cash rewards for the education of poor girls.

There is a saying of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) that without parent no Nikkah will be valid. Prophet also said that if a girl marries without the consent of her father, it will be treated as null and void. Muslim Ulema should not attend such marriages in which Islamic Shariyath and Sunnah of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) is violated.

Appointing K.V.Chowdhary as CVC ‘shameful’: Prashant Bhushan

Prominent lawyer Prashant Bhushan on Monday termed the government’s decision to appoint former Central Board of Direct Taxation chief K.V. Chowdary as the new Chief Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) as “shameful and unfortunate”.

“It’s shameful and unfortunate that the BJP and the Congress have come together to destroy the CVC (by) appointing a dubious and pliable person as its chief,” Bhushan told IANS.

Bhushan said he would take up the matter further by challenging the government’s decision in the court. “I will challenge it in the court.”

Yoga programme should not be compulsory: Congress

The Congress on Monday targeted the Narendra Modi government over publicity surrounding the International Yoga Day, saying participation in yoga events should not be made mandatory.

Congress spokesperson Shobha Oza compared the publicity being given by the government to the Yoga Day on June 21 to publicity by Nestle India to its product Maggi, which has been banned in several states following lab reports that its samples contained more than the permissible quantity of lead.
