Petrol hiked by 64 paise/litre, diesel cut Rs.1.35 in Delhi

Citing a fall in international diesel rates, state-run Indian Oil (IoC) on Monday cut the fuel price by Rs.1.35 per litre, while increasing that of petrol by 64 paise a litre effective midnight.

Both rates include state levies in Delhi, the IOC said here.

Tomar’s police custody extended by four days

A court here on Monday extended by four days police custody of Delhi’s former law minister Jitender Singh Tomar who has been arrested in a fake degree case.

Metropolitan Magistrate Preeti Parewa allowed Delhi Police to quiz Tomar till June 19.

Delhi Police arrested Tomar last Tuesday and slapped a case of cheating, forgery and conspiracy against him. He had subsequently resigned from the Arvind Kejriwal government

Railways changes timings for booking Tatkal tickets

The Ministry of Railways has changed the timings for the booking of Tatkal tickets in AC and non-AC classes, starting today, in order to reduce the load on the ticketing website and booking windows.

According to reports, the new timing for booking tickets for AC classes is 10 am onwards on the previous day of journey from train originating station, while the timing for non-AC classes starts at 11 am. (ANI)

Insaaf Organization and Deccan Wakf Protection Society had organized a protest meeting at Dabeerpura gate which police cancelled by force. RTE – Many NGOs dissatisfied

Many NGOs in Telangana State are dissatisfied with the implementation of RTE since no suitable steps are being taken by Govt. machinery for implementing RTE 2009 Act. The implementation of this Act during 2014-15 was zero percent. Delhi topped the list of the States in the implementation of RTE Act where 92% students was successful in seeking free admissions. Had this Act been implemented in A.P. and Telangana last year, 1, 75, 810 students would have got free admissions in un aided private schools. Due to negligence of the Govt., RTE Act is no being implemented properly.

Syrian Kurdish fighters inch closer to key ‘IS-held’ town

Syrian Kurdish fighters, aided by U.S.-led air strikes, have reportedly moved closer to the border of a key town held by the Islamic State (IS) on the Turkish border.

Kurdish official Idriss Naasan confirmed the news, saying that Kurds had taken control of Suluk, a few kilometres southwest of Tal Abyad, after the terror group fled from the town, reported Fox News.

The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also said that IS fighters had withdrawn from the town and the Kurds were five kilometres from Tal Abyad.

Three-year-old girl raped in Delhi

A three-year-old girl was raped and a wooden object inserted into her private parts by unidentified assailants here in the national capital, police said on Sunday.

The minor girl was in critical condition after having undergone surgery at the Safdarjung Hospital.

A case has been registered against unknown people in south Delhi’s Sarojini Nagar police station, and efforts were on to identify the accused, police said.

Maggi sales in Pakistan unaffected by Indian food scare

Pakistani retailers have said that so far sales of Maggi noodles have been stable as consumers have not reacted to reports of lead contamination in Indian manufactured noodles being sold across the border, media reported on Sunday.

In India, a ban was imposed on the sales of Nestle Maggi Noodles on June 5, after high levels of lead were found in the product packets. The company ordered a recall of its product soon after, Dawn online reported.

Exercise helps people overpower depression

Exercise has a positive effect on depression, a dissertation from Sweden’s Sahlgrenska Academy has revealed.

The researcher evaluated exercise as an add-on therapy to antidepressant medication.

The study divided 62 individuals with diagnosed clinical depression into three groups, in which two participated in two different types of exercise with a physiotherapist twice a week for 10 weeks while the third, the control group, did not participate in systematic exercise.

Hepatitis B vaccine less effective for arthritis patients

People with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are less likely to be protected by hepatitis B vaccination than the general population, new research suggests.

Within the trial, only 11 percent of those with the condition responded to the vaccine, compared with 83 percent of those without RA.

“The majority of RA patients tested as part of our study were not protected by hepatitis B vaccination,” said study investigator Misha Tilanus from Radboud University’s Medical Centre in Netherlands.

Physical activity decreases substantially over time in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a progressive disease that makes it hard to breathe, at all levels of severity, a new research has found.

This decline in physical activity is accompanied by a worsening of lung function and health status, and sustained physical inactivity is associated with progression of both exercise intolerance and muscle depletion, the study noted.
