CBI to file charge sheet in Prajapati case few days

The CBI told the Supreme Court Tuesday it will file a charge sheet in the Tulsiram Prajapati staged shootout case in a couple of days.

Senior CBI counsel Vivek Tankha told this to the apex court bench of Justice Aftab Alam and Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai in the course of the hearing of the agency’s plea challenging grant of bail to former Gujarat home minister Amit Shah by the Gujarat High Court.

TRAI set 12-minutes upper cap on the advertisement

(Siasat News)Telecom Regulatory of India, the broadcasting regulator proposes a 12-minute cap on the advertisements every hour.

They decided this after getting complaints about the growing number of commercials.

It stated “No broadcaster shall, in its broadcast of a programme, carry advertisements exceeding 12 minutes in a clock hour.”

TRAI said it acted after wide consultations with all stakeholders.

Six die in shootout at Brazil nightclub

Six people were killed and 14 wounded in a gunfight at a nightclub in the southeastern Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte, police said Monday, blaming the violence on a dispute between gangs.

Scores of people were inside the club late Sunday night when two armed men burst in as a band was playing and started firing indiscriminately.

One of the intruders was carrying a military-issue submachine gun, police said.

Several club patrons drew guns and returned fire, fatally wounding the attacker with the submachine gun, while the other assailant fled on a motorcycle.

Akshay Kumar to act in Priyadarshan’s AIDS film?

If all goes well then Akshay Kumar will be starring in Priyadarshan’s much-awaited film based on AIDS, which is aiming at international festival circuits.

“Akshay knows the subject. I have not given him the script yet. We may go with Akshay and if not him then newcomers will be roped in. Whatever I tell him he will do because of the rapport and great relation that we share,” Priyadarshan told PTI.

“I have never forced anybody to do a film with me and I will not do that ever. If he is interested I will do it with him,” he said.

Girl suffocates to death in hole dug at beach

A 12-year-old Italian girl on vacation with her family in France died from suffocation in a hole she dug at a beach.

The girl’s death was confirmed by the Italian foreign ministry.

The victim suffocated in a hole she dug at the La Teste-de-Buch beach near Gironda.

Lifeguards alerted medics after the girl was spotted partially buried.

Witnesses said they saw a “happy girl” who spent hours digging the hole which would later take her life.

Erstwhile Team Anna members march towards PM’s residence

Supporters of erstwhile Team Anna on Sunday marched towards Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s residence, as part of their gherao protest against Congress and BJP on the coal block allocation issue.

The march started from Jantar Mantar around 1 p.m. after activists Arvind Kejriwal, Prashant Bhushan, Manish Sisodia and others addressed the protesters.

However, Kiran Bedi, who had differences over targeting BJP, was not present at Jantar Mantar exposing chinks in the team, which has decided to take a political plunge.

Anna Faris welcomes baby boy

Actress Anna Faris has given birth to her first child, a son, with husband Chris Pratt.

The 35-year-old, who tied the knot with actor Pratt in 2009, gave birth to Jack Saturday, reports showbizspy.com.

“Anna Faris and Chris Pratt are happy to announce the birth of their beautiful baby boy. He arrived earlier than expected and will be spending some time in (hospital),” said the couple’s representative.

Kejriwal arrested, vows to protest again (Third Lead)

Anti-corruption activist Arvind Kejriwal and six others were detained here Sunday while trying to stage protests near Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s residence and two other places.

But police released them after about two hours at the Mandir Marg police station when scores of Kejriwal supporters gathered there, raising slogans against police and the government, India Against Corruption (IAC) said.

“Some of the detained people were manhandled,” an IAC spokesperon told IANS. “Police tried to take them to Bawana but Kejriwal refused to go till there was a FIR (first information report).

NCP threatens to disqualify Meghalaya legislators

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Sunday threatened to seek the disqualification of its 12 legislators in Meghalaya who have joined the National People’s Party (NPP).

In the 60-member assembly, the NCP has 14 legislators including suspended legislator Adolf Lu Hitler R. Marak.

Marak and Deputy Speaker Sanbor Shullai did not join the NPP, which was launched by former Lok Sabha Speaker and Purno A. Sangma.

“We are planning to appeal to the speaker (Charles Pyngrope) seeking disqualification of the 12 under the anti-defection law,” NCP’s Robert Kharshiing told IANS.

Eight killed in Haryana accident

At least eight people were killed when their van collided with a stationary truck near Rai town in Haryana’s Sonipat district, police said.

The victims were returning to their village after a pilgrimage near Mathura in Uttar Pradesh.

Police said the accident took place as the van driver, who was among those killed, dozed off while driving. The others in the vehicle were also sleeping.

Girl committed suicide

(Siasat News)Y. Maheshwari, committed suicide by consuming pesticide after being scold by her parent for poor academic performance.

When her parent return from farm where they work as farm hand found her daughter lying unconscious.

Parent took her to the Osmania General Hospital where she was admitted in Intensive Care Unit (I.C.U).

According to Vikarabad inspector V. Lachi Ram, girl consumed pesticide kept at home on Tuesday evening when her parents were on work. She died at 2 a.m.

Armstrong died just weeks after he underwent a heart surgery, and his family said in a statement that he passed away following complications resulting from cardiovascular procedures, according to US media reports.

Alzheimer’s hits women more severely than men, even when both are in the same stage of the disease.

Researchers from the University of Hertfordshire discovered that men with Alzheimer’s consistently performed better than their women counterparts, across the five cognitive areas they examined.

Most remarkably, the verbal skills of women with Alzheimer’s are worse when compared to men with the disease, the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychology reports.

Stalemate continues for Engineering fees

(Siasat News)The stalemate between the Govt. and the private Engineering colleges is on the increase on the issue to determine engineering college fees.

Govt. has decided to fix Rs.50, 200 as per the court orders for some colleges whereas for the remaining colleges, the fees would remain Rs.35, 000 as decided earlier. The college managements plead that the fees should be uniform for all the Engineering colleges. They contend that by threatening them of the raids of task force, Govt. got the declarations signed for Rs.35, 000 fees.

Finance Min P Chidambaram hits back at BJP

Hitting out at BJP for disruption of Parliament on coal block allocations issue, Finance Minister P Chidambaram today asked the party why it was not not ready for a debate, daring it to face questions on allocations made during the NDA rule.

“If the BJP has such a strong case, why don’t they debate the subject in Parliament,” he said, reacting to BJP leader Arun Jaitley’s criticism of the government and his assertion that his party is in no mood to allow Parliament to function till its demand for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s resignation is met.

Bring in no-trust, Congress challenges BJP on coal gate

Dubbing the coal blocks allocation controversy as a ‘non-issue’, Congress today challenged the BJP to bring in a no-confidence motion against the UPA government instead of stalling Parliament proceedings.

The BJP would not be bold enough to take such a course of action as it would not only expose its “true colour” but also fissures in the party-led NDA, Congress spokesman and JPC chairman P C Chacko told a meet-the-press programme here.
