Seminar in Siasat on educational opportunities in Canada

(Siasat News)A seminar is being organized at Mahboob Husain Jigar Hall in Siasat office to highlight educational opportunities in Canada for the Indian students. The Seminar will start today at 11 a.m. Mr. Tahseen Husain, Director, Optimum Group will deliver an extension lecture. There will also be a question and answer session at the end of the lecture. Such of the students who want to go to Canada for their higher studies may attend this seminar.

A. P. Assembly meets on 17th September

(Siasat News)The Monsoon Session of A.P. Assembly starts on 17th September and will continue till 22nd September. It will be the tenth session of the current term of Assembly. State Govt. was forced to convene this session due to constitutional compulsions. As per the constitution of India, it is binding on the State Govt. to convene the Assembly Session at least once in six months period. Congress Party was evading to convene the Assembly Session for political seasons. It has to deal with opposition parties like TDP and TRS. TRS has gathered strength with its 17 MLA’s.

Pakistani minister Rehman Malik likely to visit India

Interior Minister Rehman Malik is likely to visit to India on an invitation from visiting Indian External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna, a media report said Sunday.

Krishna, who is on a three-day visit to Pakistan, invited the interior minister to New Delhi.

The invitation has been accepted and it is believed Malik is likely to visit India in November, reported Dawn.

A pact on liberalising the visa regime was signed by Krishna and Malik here Saturday.

Krishna also met his Pakistani counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar Saturday. His visit ends Sunday.

PM congratulates ISRO

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Sunday congratulated scientists and engineers of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for the successful launch of an Indian rocket carrying two foreign satellites that became its 100th space mission.

“I’m delighted to witness the launch of PSLV-C21 carrying two foreign satellites. On behalf of all Indians, I congratulate the space fraternity,” he said after the launch of ISRO’s 100th space mission here.

He said the country had overcome immense odds and was proud of its space scientists for setting up world-class facilities.

Indian rocket carrying two satellites blasts off

An Indian rocket carrying two satellites blasted off from the first launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre here in Andhra Pradesh Sunday. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh witnessed the launch here.

The rocket carried two foreign satellites – SPOT 6, a French satellite and a Japanese micro satellite called Proiteres.

Khar overshadows a seasoned Krishna (Islamabad diary)

He is 80-plus and a seasoned politician and she is all of 34 years of age. But when it came to a face-off in front of the media, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar clearly scored over her much elder Indian counterpart, External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna.

This was quite evident at the joint press conference of both leaders at Pakistan’s ministry of foreign affairs here Saturday. Khar spoke at length about various issues and forcefully put across her country’s point of view. She did not refer too often to her written statement.

Father of White Revolution Verghese Kurien is dead

Verghese Kurien, who brought milk revolution in the country, died Sunday in a hospital in Nadiad following a prolonged illness, an official said. He was 91.

He is survived by wife Molly and daughter Nirmala, said Gujarat Co-Operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) Managing Director R.S. Sodhi.

“He had been ailing with kidney problems since quite some time and was admitted to a speciality hospital in Nadiad. He passed away around 2 a.m. today (Sunday),” Sodhi told IANS.

Kurien’s body was brought Sunday morning to Anand.

The funeral shall be held at 4 p.m., Sodhi said.

Iran ready to hold nuclear talks: Minister

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi has said his country was ready to hold negotiations with world powers on Tehran’s nuclear programme, state-run Press TV reported.

“We have repeatedly expressed our readiness and announced that we are ready for talks in a win-win situation,” Salehi was quoted as saying.

Iran has never lost the “opportunity for diplomacy”, the foreign minister said.

“Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has asserted that Iran’s nuclear energy programme is peaceful. If there is any problem today, it is the problem of the West and the US,” he said.

30 wounded in Iraq bombings

At least 30 people were wounded in a series of bomb attacks in Iraq’s Baquba city, Xinhua reported.

The coordinated attacks took place Saturday. Two roadside bombs went off almost simultaneously in al-Tahrir area in southern Baquba, 65 km from Baghdad, a police source told Xinhua.

Baquba is the capital of the eastern province of Diyala.

A third blast took place, when a bomb planted in a civilian car detonated in the same area.

Iraqi security forces rushed to the scene and defused a fourth bomb.

1st T20 called off as rain plays spoilsport in Yuvi’s comeback

India, Pak agree to expand Cross-LoC travel and trade

India and Pakistan on Saturday agreed to expand Cross-LoC travel and trade as part of the efforts to build up Confidence Building Measures (CBM) between the two countries.

This was agreed during External Affairs Minister SM Krishna’s meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar in Islamabad.

Concern expressed on the arrests of Muslim youths

Mr. Khaja Arifuddin, Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami of A.P. & Orissa expressed his severe reaction on the arrest of the innocent Muslim youths under an organized conspiracy. The youths arrested include doctors, scientists and journalists. He appealed to all the journalists to expose the truth so that people should know the facts.

It will also force State and Central Governments to repent on their misdeeds. It is presumed that even after the revelation of truth, arrests of the innocent Muslim youths will continue because it is the compulsion of Central and State Governments.

Due to the carelessness and negligence of the management of Singarenie Collieries, its employees are suffering. They are forced to joblessness and starvation. Many of its employees, after their dismissal, have died on account of grief and ill health.

Telangana Praja Front demands the management of Singarenie Collieries to reinstate its dismissed employees. Ex-gratia should be paid to the descendents of the deceased employees. Their children should be given jobs.

Floor leader of TRS, Mr. E.Rajinder told that the attitude of Dr. Manmohan Singh on Telangana issue is deplorable.

Govt. should be dislodged on fees reimbursement issue-YSR Congress President

Honorary President of YSR Congress, Ms. Vijayamma alleged that the Congress Govt. of A.P., in order to express its anger on late Dr. Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, is taking revenge with the poor students by abolishing the scheme of fees reimbursement to professional college students. Merger of YSR Congress in Indian National Congress contradicted by Vijayamma

Honorary President of YSR Congress Party, Ms. Vijayamma contradicted the merger of YSR Congress Party in Indian National Congress. Her two-day hunger strike ended yesterday. At the end of her two-day agitation in connection with the issue of fees reimbursement, she was addressing the pressmen. She was referring to a news item released by a local news agency, which expressed that YSR Congress Party would merge into Indian National Congress. President of YSR Congress Party, Mr.Y.S.Jagan Mohan Reddy has already ruled out the merger with BJP earlier.

GHMC campaign to remove TV cables hanging on the roads

Mr Karishna Babu, IAS, Commissioner, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation told that the enforcement teams of GHMC have removed the hanging T.V. Cables from the roads from Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital to Road No.36 of Jubilee Hills. These teams have removed 10 lorries load of T.V. cables from these roads. He also told that this campaign would continue until further orders.

Earlier, the commissioner had given them notices to the cable operators to remove these cables before 31st August but they did remove them.

Entry of Israeli Universities in India-protest by C.P.I.M

Communist Party of India (Marxist) recorded a strong protest against the entry of Israeli Universities in India.

It had already warned against holding Indo-Global Summit at Taj Deccan Hotel in Hyderabad. Police arrested the CPI (M) activists who were proceeding towards the meeting place. Police arrested Mr. P.Madhu, former M.P, Mr. Abdul Ghafoor, former MLC and a large number of workers and shifted them to various police stations using fore. The subsidiary of CPI (M) Awaaz and othert similar organizations also participated in the protest.
