Shinde’s comments are irresponsible Janardhan Reddy

President of Telangana Nagara Samithi Dr. N.Janardhan Reddy severely condemned the statement made by Mr. Sushil Kumar Shinde, Home Minister in which he has expressed his apprehensions about Nexalites in smaller states.

Mr. Shinde has said that if smaller states were formed, the Naxalites would become stronger.

Dr. N. Janaradhan Reddy told that if need be, the ten districts of Telangana could be further divided into many districts of Telangana to make Telangana State larger. He expressed these views while talking to newsmen at media point in Secretariat.

File pertaining to Khairtabad Wakf Property is missing

The file pertaining to Hakeem Basheer Ahmed Wakf Property located opposite Shadaan College in Khairtabad is missing. The officials of Wakf Board at the meeting held yesterday reported it to the Legislative Committee on Minority Affairs.

Wakf Board submitted a note that a committee was constituted for the development of 584sq yards valuable property at Khairtabad for improving the income of Wakf Board. A file was prepared in this connection, which contained departmental correspondence and other related documents.

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt has come out in support of cartoonist Aseem Trivedi, saying freedom of art is important for a peaceful society.

“I believe a society where you don’t give anyone a chance to express their anger via art, very dangerous people are born there. They then tell the same thing with the help of a gun and bullets,” the 63-year-old said at a press conference called here Tuesday to support Aseem.

Cartoonist Aseem Trivedi walked out of jail Wednesday, three days after he was charged with sedition. Trivedi, an activist of India Against Corruption (IAC), had been given bail Tuesday. The case had led to outrage in the country.

IAF stands by pilot’s decision not to fly Rahul Gandhi

The Indian Air Force on Wednesday said the refusal by its pilot to fly Rahul Gandhi from Kokrajhar to Guwahati in Assam was because of safety reasons and it strongly stands by the decision of its officer.

“Based on the prevailing weather and approaching sunset, the pilot taking the safety of the VIP as being paramount, arrived at the decision that it was unsafe to undertake the flight,” IAF spokesperson wing commander Gerard Gallway said.

“The pilot’s decision was taken using his professional judgement in the interest of safety of aircraft and its occupants.

Actor Salman Khan films special appeal for ITBP

Bollywood actor Salman Khan has shot a special film for the border guarding ITBP as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the security force.

The 46-year-old actor flew down from Mumbai on Tuesday to shoot his appeal for a marathon ‘Run for the nation’, being organised by the border guarding force on October 7 in the national capital.

‘Emerging Kerala’ runs into protesting Kerala

“Emerging Kerala”, the three-day event meant to showcase the state to potential investors, ran into a wall of protest on the very day of its inauguration here Wednesday.

As the event was set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, numerous organisations gathered in strength to express their disapproval of a move that many fear could “submerge” Kerala.

The state expects to host guests from 52 countries over the next three days. Nearly 2,500 ambassadors and high commissioners, diplomats and CEOs are expected to congregate in Kochi during the event.

Girl gangraped in Patna boys’ hostel

A 20-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped in a boys’ hostel in the Bihar capital, police said Wednesday.

The girl was gangraped by three youths in a boys’ hostel located in Nihora here late Tuesday night. The victim lodged an FIR, in which she said that three youths, aged between 18-21 years, forcibly brought her to the hostel and outraged her modesty.

She had gone to a nearby locality in search of a relative house when the boys forcibly took her to the hostel and raped her, said a police officer.

The three accused have been arrested.

10 die in Russian plane crash

Ten people were killed Wednesday when their plane crashed in Russia’s far eastern Kamchatka Peninsula, officials said.

The twin-engine Antonov An-28 was carrying 12 passengers and two crew, investigators say. It had been on a flight from the regional capital, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, reported RIA Novosti.

Four survivors have been taken to hospital, officials said.

The aircraft lost radio contact with traffic control at 12.28 shortly before it was due to land at an airfield in the village of Palana, about 990 km north of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

The election of Dimple Yadav, wife of Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, to the Lok Sabha from Kannauj has been challenged in the Allahabad High Court by a man who says he was kidnapped to prevent him from contesting.

Hearing a petition filed by lawyer Prabhat Kumar Pandey, Justice D.P. Singh Tuesday issued notice to Yadav and the Kannauj district magistrate seeking a response within six weeks.

Bal Thackeray backs Trivedi, but raps him too

Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray Wednesday came out in support of jailed cartoonist Aseem Trivedi but also gave him a sharp rap on the knuckles.

While contending that the sedition charge slapped by Mumbai police on the cartoonist was a bit too much, Thackeray also pulled up Trivedi for his cartoons mocking the Indian national emblem, constitution and parliament.

In an editorial in the party mouthpiece Saamna, Thackeray said: “Trivedi has definitely insulted these national symbols, but labeling him as a traitor and jailing him under sedition charge is not proper.”

Scientists have for the first time linked smoking with ovarian cancer – the second most commonly diagnosed gynaecological cancer in Australia with a five-year survival rate of only 40 percent.

Andy Lee and Colin Binns, both professors from the Curtin University’s School of Public Health, took part as members of the Collaborative Group on Epidemiological Studies of Ovarian Cancer based at Oxford University and funded by UK Cancer research.

China must teach Japan a lesson, says Chinese daily

A lesson is necessary to dispel Japan’s contempt toward China, said a state-run Chinese daily Wednesday, a day after the Japanese government inked a deal to buy the disputed Diaoyu Islands.

A strongly worded editorial – “Discard illusion of friendly ties with Japan” – in Global Times said that Sino-Japanese relations suffered a serious blow Tuesday when the Japanese government signed a deal to purchase the Diaoyu Islands with the self-proclaimed “owner”.

“The friendly ties between the two countries established in the 1970s collapsed completely,” it said.

Current times worse than emergency: Advani

Bharatiya Janata Party leader L.K. Advani has come out in support of Aseem Trivedi, saying the act of jailing the cartoonist for an allegedly seditious work had made him wonder if the current political set up was “worse even than the emergency?”

Advani, in a blog post Wednesday, said he has “always regarded the emergency period 1975-77 as the worst in so far as suppression of civil liberties and freedom of expression were concerned”.

Colombian navy seizes tonne of cocaine

Colombian naval units found nearly a tonne of cocaine on a high-speed boat travelling in Caribbean waters near San Andres Island, the military said Tuesday.

The four men aboard the launch Pez Caribe were taken into custody.

The boat was spotted by an aerial patrol, which contacted the regional naval command on San Andres.

The smugglers tried to flee when navy boats approached, hurling several bales of cocaine into the sea in an attempt to distract their pursuers.

World War II veteran shoots thief with 1916 pistol

A World War II veteran in Ukraine prevented a possible theft with his 1916 pistol by shooting at a man who broke into his house.

The incident occurred in Nikolayev region in which the trespasser was injured, a media report said. The suspected burglar had to be hospitalised due to two gunshot wounds.

He gave police the name and address of his alleged shooter, but the latter appeared to have an alibi. The police continued looking for the shooter in the village, eventually arriving at the house of the 88-year-old war veteran.

Thousands take part in bull-spearing fest in Spain

Thousands of people attended Tuesday in this northwestern Spanish city the festival of Toro de la Vega, during which young people spear a bull to death.

Situation under control in Kundankulam

The situation in Tamil Nadu’s Idinthakarai village, the epicentre of the movement against the Kudankulam nuclear project, was under control Wednesday after three days of protests, an official said.
