Trinamool Congress ministers to resign tomorrow

Trinamool Congress ministers have sought an appointment with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for submitting their resignation tomorrow.

Railway Minister Mukul Roy today said an appointment has been sought from the Prime Minister at 3 pm tomorrow and all the ministers will submit their resignations in Delhi tomorrow.

Ruling out any compromise, he said TMC chief Mamata Banerjee has already announced the party’s stand of withdrawing her Ministers from the Government and support to it on the issue of FDI in retail, the diesel price hike and cap on supply of LPG cylinders.

Nationwide bandh: Mulayam, Karat court arrest

Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh and Left leaders Prakash Karat and A B Bardhan on Thursday courted arrest in New Delhi during the nation-wide bandh against FDI in retail and diesel price hike.

After holding a joint demonstration at Jantar Mantar, the leaders of SP, four Left parties, JD(S), TDP and BJD marched to Parliament Street Police Station along with supporters and courted arrest.

Besides Mr. Mulayam, Mr. Karat (CPI-M) and Mr. Bardhan (CPI), other prominent leaders who courted arrested included Sitaram Yechury (CPI-M), Chandrababu Naidu of TDP and Deve Gowda.

Unani doctors welcome New Commisioner of AYUSH

Dr. Niyaz Ahmed Khan, President, Old Boys’ Association and member of Development Committee of Nizamia Tibbi College, and Dr. A.A.Khan, State President of Unani Medical organization in a statement issued yesterday told that they met the new commissioner of AYUSH, Dr. P.K. Srivasu and garlanded him on assuming the charge.

A delegation consisting of the members of the Unani Medical Associations apprised the new Director of the problems faced by them. They invited him to visit Unani Hospital at Charminar.

Demand to take stern action against the miscreants-Amjadullah Khan Khalid

Reacting heavily on the communal incident of Tasdur in Ranga Reddy District, Mr. Amjadullah Khan Khalid, Municipal Corporator of Azampura and MBT activist, blamed the Govt. for its inaction in controlling the situation in Tandur.

Many affected Muslims of Tandur came to Hyderabad and narrated these woes to MBT leaders. They told that these atrocities took place in the presence of the police. Police didn’t take any action against the miscreants.

I’m not upset with Sridevi: Tusshar Kapoor

Actor Tusshar Kapoor, who was reportedly upset with actress Sridevi for her remarks on the remake of his father, Jeetendra’s 1983 film “Himmatwala”, says his reaction was misunderstood.

“Sometimes misunderstandings happen, but that’s not what I meant. I only showed possessiveness over the film, I liked her a lot in it. I am no one to be upset with somebody who is so senior, so popular, such a big legend,” the 36-year-old said here.

“Himmatwala” also starred Sridevi in it, and is now being remade by Sajid Khan, with Ajay Devgn and southern actress Tamannah in lead roles.

Shutdown evokes mixed response in Andhra

A nationwide shutdown called by the opposition to protest the government’s economic measures evoked mixed response in Andhra Pradesh Thursday.

Buses of the state-owned Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corp (APSRTC) went off the roads in most parts of the state. Road transport halted with over four lakh trucks joining the strike since midnight.

A section of auto drivers in Hyderabad and other towns too joined the strike.

The shutdown call evoked partial response in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, parts of coastal Andhra while it was near total in rest of the state.

Resentment brewing in Congress over Telangana

Resentment is brewing in the ruling Congress in Andhra Pradesh with a section of leaders openly attacking the central leadership for talking to the TRS over the Telangana issue.

Sharks are colour blind, says study

New research which could help conserve sharks has confirmed that many of the ocean predators are probably completely colour blind.

The joint study by The Universities of Western Australia (UWA) and Queensland looked at the visual adaptations of two species of wobbegong sharks, which are also known as carpet sharks.

Wobbegongs spend most of their time on the sea floor and hunt mostly at night using an unusual sit-and-wait ambush strategy, the journal “The Royal Society’s Biology Letters” reports.

Left, Right come together against FDI

In a rare show of unity, Communist and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders came together here Thursday to denounce the decision to allow FDI in multi-brand retail trade.

At a protest rally organised by traders in the heart of the capital, BJP and Communist veterans lashed out at the government for what they said was a policy that would ruin India’s mammoth retail sector.

“The tragedy is that our prime minister (Manmohan Singh) has begun to worship the US,” Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Sitaram Yechury said to loud cheers.

After raising the bar of new age horror films with ‘Bhoot’, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma plans to hit the bulls eye once again with its sequel ‘Bhoot Returns’ in 3D, which he claims will enhance the fear factor.

“I have not made a 3D film in my career…this is the first one. The 3D effect has always fascinated me. I think the right application of it (3D) in a horror film is going to enhance the element of fear,” Varma told PTI in an interview.

Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad has said there are 14 to 15 aspirants for the post of prime minister and he himself is one of them.

The countrywide Bandh called Thursday by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the left parties evoked little response in the Kashmir Valley while life was adversely affected in winter capital Jammu.

Markets, public transport and other businesses remained closed in Jammu city.

Attendance in government offices, banks, post offices and government-run educational institutions remained thin because of the non-availability of public transport in Jammu.

Obama meets Aung San Suu Kyi

President Barack Obama Wednesday met Myanmar’s opposition leader and parliamentarian Aung San Suu Kyi at the White House.

Obama expressed his admiration for “her courage, determination and personal sacrifice in championing democracy and human rights over the years”, reported Xinhua citing a White House statement.

Reaffirming his commitment to support reforms in Myanmar, Obama believed that the reconciliation and reform will offer the people of Myanmar an opportunity to “take charge of their destiny and to shape a more peaceful, free and prosperous future”, the statement added.

Pakistani lawmakers with dual nationality disqualified

Pakistani parliamentarians holding dual nationality were disqualified by the Supreme Court Thursday.

The Supreme Court announced the judgment on petitions challenging dual nationality according to which all the members of parliament holding dual nationality have been disqualified, Geo News reported.

The court had reserved the judgment Sep 18. The judges had earlier said that dual nationality holders could not be given the authority to make laws.

No surprise on Pakistani PM seeking spiritual advice: Daily

It is “no surprise” that Pakistani Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has sought spiritual advice on political matters, said a leading daily which pointed out that neighbouring India too “evolves into one huge crystal ball” during election time.

FBI asked to track anti-Sikh hate crimes

A Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) panel will look into demands to track hate crimes against Sikhs motivated by religious bias in the wake of the Aug 5 shooting at a Wisconsin gurdwara.

The FBI’s Advisory Policy Board will be asked to look into expansion of current hate crime reporting categories to include hate crimes motivated by anti-Sikh bias, Deputy Attorney General James M Cole told a Senate panel Wednesday.
