People Prefer to commit suicide to escape police atrocities

All the efforts of police to bring public closer to police failed. People have lost faith in police. They are afraid of police to such an extent that they prefer to commit suicide rather than facing the atrocities of the police.

In a surprising incident, police took out a dead body from Osman Sagar the other day.

On enquiry, the mother of the deceased Madhu told that the police that she had advised her son to go underground for sometime to save himself from the eyes of police.

Demand to provide relief to Tandur victims

Plan to expand business in India by Lumeric Inc.

Lumeric Inc., a company, which provides solution in healthcare, and I.T. Industry, wants to expand its business in India. Five Lakh bogus ration cards surrendered to Govt.

For the first time in the state, people and the dealers of fair price ration shops have handed over nearly 5.10 lakh bogus ration cards to the Department of Civil Supplies. The department expects that another set of 90 thousand ration cards would be handed over to it very soon. After surrendering these ration cards, there will be a saving of Rs.24 crore to the Govt. Govt. of A.P. is spending nearly Rs.250 crore on supplying essential food grains at subsidized rates.

Private school teachers get pension in Punjab

When former Punjab cabinet minister Master Mohan Lal got his pension pay order from Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, it was an achievement for teachers in privately managed but government aided schools in Punjab.

Lal got his cheque for as a retired social science teacher of the Arya Senior Secondary School, Pathankot, before becoming the transport minister in the previous government (2007-12) of Badal.

Teachers of private schools, which are otherwise aided by the government, got their pension scheme restored by the Badal government after a fight of almost nine years.

Mobile phone-blocking cost Pakistani firms Rs.450 mn

Pakistan’s telecom operators lost a staggering Rs.450 million Friday due to the blocking of mobile phones in 15 cities across the country that cut-off over 50 million people, a media report said Saturday.

Protests took place across the country Friday against the anti-Islam film “Innocence of Muslims”. Clashes took place as the country observed Youm-e-Ishq-e-Rasool (love of Prophet Mohammad day).

The government decided to cut-off mobile phone services in 15 cities to prevent unrest, but the move failed as violence left 23 people dead and 200 injured.

Three die in drone attack in Pakistan

At least three people were killed Saturday in a US drone strike in Pakistan’s northwest tribal area, a media report said.

US drones fired two missiles at a vehicle suspected of carrying militants in the Datta Khel area of North Waiziristan, a stronghold of militants along the Pakistan-Afghan border, killing at three people and wounding two, reported Xinhua citing a media report.

The strike came at a time when the Pakistani foreign minister is paying a visit to the US.

US, Pakistan pledge to cooperate on Afghanistan

The US and Pakistan have pledged to work together to confront challenges facing Afghanistan.

“We face a common threat from a common enemy, and we must confront terrorism and extremism together,” US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told reporters prior to her meeting Friday with Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, reported Xinhua.

“Earlier this month, I designated the Haqqani Network as a foreign terrorist organization so we could make full use of every available legal authority to end their deadly attacks,” she said.

Female officer leads US Air Force training

A female officer has taken over the basic training unit of a US Air Force base in Texas after a widening sex scandal involving more than a dozen male instructors and more than 40 female recruits.

Deborah Liddick Friday became the commander of the 737th Training Group at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in Texas, where she will be in charge of training about 35,000 new recruits each year, reported Xinhua citing media reports.

US airline traffic ticks up

US airline traffic in June rose slightly after inching down a month earlier, the US Transportation Department reported.

US airlines carried 66.6 million domestic and international passengers in June 2012, 0.6 percent more than the same period of 2011, said the department Friday. The fresh number of passengers was also 2.5 percent above that of two years ago in June 2010, reported Xinhua.

Specifically, there were 0.2 percent more domestic passengers and 2.8 percent more international passengers in June than a year ago.

Agra MP injured in mob attack

Lok Sabha member from Agra Ram Shankar Katheria was injured when he was hit in stone-pelting by a mob, police said Saturday. The incident, in an area where most hotels are located, prompted foreign tourists to flee.

Katheria had to be admitted to a hospital after he was hit by a stone in the Tourist Complex area of Fatehabad Road Friday night.

Hotels and cars were attacked. Most foreign tourists fled, some leaving the city late at night, as they feared for their life, industry sources said.
