Sonia assures to send Central team to assess Arunachal floods

UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi has assured Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki that the Centre would soon send a team to take stock of the damage caused by floods in the state.

Gandhi, during a meeting with the chief minister yesterday, said the Centre was aware of the worsening flood situation in Arunachal and assured all possible help to repair damage caused by sudden floods, official sources said here today.

SP ready for snap polls, rules out joining UPA-II

Samajwadi Party is ready for mid- term Lok Sabha polls but it is supporting the UPA government to keep communal forces at bay, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said today.

At the same time, the SP leader ruled out the possibility of joining the UPA government at the Centre but pledged to continue its crucial support to UPA-II after Trinamool Congress walked out of the ruling alliance on FDI and other issues. SP has with 22 MPs in Lok Sabha.

Hong Kong’s Muslims protest against anti-Islam film

Thousands of Muslims in Hong Kong rallied against a film that allegedly insults Islam, and briefly scuffled with policemen outside the US consulate when they tried to deliver a letter of protest.

The demonstrators Sunday gathered at the Chater Garden in the city centre for a rally organised by local religious and community groups, Xinhua reported.

Organisers said about 5,000 people took part in the protest, while police put the figure at 3,000.

Three killed in Nigeria church suicide bombing

At least three people were killed and 22 injured in a suicide bombing at a Catholic church in Nigeria, officials said.

The explosion rocked the St. John’s parish in Wunti area of northern Bauchi state during the Sunday morning mass, Xinhua reported.

Rescue officials at the scene of the incident said the three corpses included that of the suicide bomber, a female adult and a child.

Officials said the toll may increase.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Muslims protest in Athens over anti-Islam film

Muslim protesters took to the streets of the Greek capital to denounce a film deemed insulting to Islam, and briefly clashed with police, Xinhua reported.

About 700 protesters took part in the first demonstration held in Greece over the film that has led to strong reactions from Muslims in several countries in the past two weeks.

Chanting slogans such as “Allahu Akbar”, and raising banners that read “Punish mockers of our Prophet”, the protesters gathered in a central square in Athens.

China aims to become ‘world technological power’ by 2049

China aims to become a “world technological power” by 2049 and a leading nation in innovation and scientific development, according to a new government document.

The document, released Sunday by the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council (or cabinet), said “deepening technological system reform and accelerating national innovation system construction” sets the goal for China to be “in the ranks of innovative nations” by 2020, Xinhua reported.

WW III may erupt if Israel attacks Iran: Official

A top Iranian official has said a World War III may erupt if his country is attacked by Israel, concerned over Tehran’s controversial nuclear programme.

Brig. Gen. Amir-Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the Aerospace Division of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), told Press TV that in case of the eruption of such a war, the situation would be out of control.

“This war is likely to degenerate into the World War III,” Hajizadeh was quoted as saying.

I did no wrong, says Andhra minister

With the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seeking sanction of the Andhra Pradesh government to prosecute senior cabinet minister Dharmana Prasada Rao in the case of Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy’s illegal assets, the minister Sunday claimed he was innocent.

Minister for Roads and Buildings Dharmana Prasada Rao, who submitted his resignation last month after the CBI filed a chargesheet against him, told reporters here Sunday that he met Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy Saturday night and offered an explanation.

Over 173,000 Haj pilgrims reach Saudi Arabia

More than 173,000 pilgrims reached Saudi Arabia to perform Haj, Xinhua reported Sunday.

According to Salem bin Mohammed Al-Bilaihid, director general of Passports Department, more than 109,000 pilgrims arrived by air, while 54,000 by sea and 10,000 by land.

Saudi Arabia is expecting 1.8 million pilgrims from abroad this season.

Spread of epidemic diseases in City-Attention of GHMC on Bio-diversity, not on Public Health

City of Hyderabad is facing the spread of epidemic diseases these days.

These diseases are affecting the young children. Their parents are worried. Viruses and mosquitoes are disturbing the peaceful atmosphere of the City.

Municipal Corporation and Health Department are not doing anything to fight these epidemic diseases.

Spreading of insecticides in slum areas has not been proving effective. The indifference of GHMC is worrying the inhabitants of the City.

Telangana issue not yet resolved-Vayalar Ravi

C.M. confesses attempts on Telangana in Delhi

C.M. of A.P. Mr. N.Kiran Kumar Reddy admitted that hectic activities are going on in New Delhi to resolve Telangana issue. He told that first Congress Party has to decide about Telangana and later Govt. of India will take a decision.

TRS president, Mr. K.Chandrasekhara Rao is in New Delhi and he is negotiating with the Central leaders in New Delhi.

About the Dharmana Prasad Rao’s case, the C.M. told that he has already sought the opinion on this matter. On receipt of legal opinion, he will take a decision. He also told that he would discuss with the Central leaders on LPG subsidy.

Formation of Telangana impossible –L. Rajagopal

Staunch supporter of integrated A.P. State, Mr. L. Rajagopal Congress M.P. from Vijayawada declared that at any cost, Telangana State won’t be formed. He reiterated that efforts are going on in New Delhi for making the bifurcation of the State impossible.

Short-term Assembly Session adjourned
