I’d love to get married: Ranbir

Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor, who has a massive fan following, and whose personal life is always under the scanner, says he will be ready for marriage the day he finds the right person.

“If I meet the right person, I would love to get married,” Ranbir told an Oye 104.8 FM radio host.

The actor had a roaring affair with Deepika Padukone, and was rumoured to be in a relationship with his co-stars Nargis Fakhri and Katrina Kaif. But Ranbir hopes one day he will find “true love”.

Justice Murugesan is Delhi High Court chief justice

Justice Darmar Murugesan was Wednesday sworn in as the chief justice of the Delhi High Court by Lt. Gov. Tejendra Khanna.

Justice Murugesan was a judge of the Madras High Court and has recently been elevated and transferred to Delhi. Acting Chief Justice A.K. Sikri has been elevated as chief justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

He was administered the oath of office at 10 a.m. at the Raj Niwas, the official residence of the lt governor. The function was attended by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and other judges of the Delhi High Court.

BJP national executive to focus on UPA corruption

Corruption in the Manmohan Singh-led government is the focus of the national executive meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday, party sources said.

The meeting started with an address by BJP president Nitin Gadkari. The national executive meeting at this town, neighbouring the national capital, will be followed by the national council meeting on Thursday and Friday.

The national council meeting is expected to debate and pass some economic and political resolutions, said party sources.

Samsung launches Galaxy Note 2

Samsung Electronics launched Wednesday its latest Galaxy device as part of efforts to better compete with Apple’s newly released iPhone 5.

After being introduced at IFA trade show in Berlin late last month, the latest Galaxy Note 2, called phablet or a hybrid of smartphone and tablet PC, was rolled out at Samsung’s headquarters in central Seoul, adding a new Galaxy device to Samsung’s product mix, reported Xinhua.

The Galaxy Note 2 is positioned as a niche with a large screen, multitasking, upgraded operating system and competitive hardware.

No extra day for World Twenty20 semis and final

With rain playing spoilsport at most of the matches, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has not set aside reserve days for the semifinal and final matches of the World Twenty20.

Xinhua quoted an ICC media official saying that extra days have not been scheduled for the semifinals or the final in the event the games are washed out.

But the official expressed confidence that the latter stages of the tournament will not be severely hampered by rain and that the final will also be held as scheduled.

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari today highlighted his country’s efforts in deepening ties with Afghanistan’s political leaders but said the illegal trade of heroin in the neighbouring country was helping fund terrorist activities in the region and across the world.

Zardari emphasised that to have a stable and secure Afghanistan was in Pakistan’s own interest.

Pakistan rakes up Kashmir in UN

Pakistan today once again resorted to its old tactics of raking up Kashmir in the United Nations when its President Asif Ali Zardari sought a solution to the issue under UN resolution.

He said Kashmir remains a symbol of failure of the UN system and Pakistan’s principled position on territorial disputes remains a bedrock of its foreign policy.

“Kashmir remains a symbol of failures, rather than strengths of the UN system,” Zardari said in his 20-minute speech at the 67th session of the UN General Assembly here.

Only barrier-free schools will retain recognition: Court

The Delhi High Court has directed the government to de-recognise private schools which do not appoint special educators for children with disabilities and make their premises barrier-free.

The court, in a recent order, granted time till March 31, 2013 to the schools to make their premises barrier-free and asked them to appoint special educators within the next two years.

It asked all private unaided schools in the capital to hire two qualified special educators as per the mandate of the right to education law.

Pakistan cricket board ready to train Asian players

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is ready to provide facilities at its state of the art National Cricket Academy (NCA) to train and groom players of associate members of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

A PCB official, demanding anonymity, said the board had completed its homework to provide the facilities on demand to countries like China, Bahrain, Iran and Maldives, reports Xinhua.

“PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf extended offer to the ACC associate members and PCB would provide all kind of support to improve skills of their players at our training academies,” said the official.

The brain, the body’s most powerful organ, is not a single uniform entity but has parts that can evolve independently of one another, a new study says.

The unique 15-year study, based on compelling evidence unearthed by researchers from the universities of Tennessee and Manchester, as also the Harvard Medical School, also identified several genetic loci (the position of a gene on chromosome) that control the size of different brain parts.

Amended Swiss letter draft submitted to Pakistani court

The Pakistani government Wednesday submitted to the Supreme Court the amended draft of a letter that has to be sent to Swiss authorities to reopen corruption cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.

Federal Law Minister Farooq H. Naek Wednesday submitted the amended Swiss letter draft after the apex court Tuesday gave him a day’s time to carry out changes in the letter that the government had submitted, Geo News reported.

A five-member bench of the apex court heard the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) Implementation case.

Nearly 60 million Pakistanis live below the poverty line, said a leading daily lamenting that “areas such as defence get the better of development”.

An editorial in the Dawn Wednesday said a study on poverty has brought Pakistan face to face with a reality that it will find hard to accept: “Every third Pakistani is caught in the ‘poor’ bracket i.e. some 58.7 million out of a total population of 180 million subsist below the poverty line.”

Baramati shuts down to oppose Ajit Pawar resignation

Businesses in Maharashtra’s Baramati town, a stronghold of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), were shut in the morning hours Wednesday to protest the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

The NCP leader’s resignation Tuesday evening had also led to protests in other parts of the state, including Yavatmal, Aurangabad and Pune. Nineteen of his party colleagues also offered to quit by NCP chief and Ajit Pawar’s uncle Sharad Pawar said no.

NCP leader Babasaheb Kupekar dead

Senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former speaker Krishnarao R. Desai, alias Babasaheb Kupekar, passed away following prolonged illness in Jaslok Hospital here Wednesday morning, official sources said. He was 70.

Kupekar was under treatment for cancer since the past few months.

He is survived by his wife Sandhya and three daughters.

Born and educated in Kolhapur, Kupekar was a voracious reader with a huge private collection of books and was engaged in the preservation of historical documents and records pertaining to Chhatrapati Shivaji.

Degrees out of reach for 150,000 distance education students

Nearly 150,000 students face an uncertain future after the Haryana government directed the Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) in Rohtak to shut down its more than 11,000 study centres inside and outside the state.

The Haryana government last month passed a bill in the assembly amending the MDU act of 1975, effectively closing down the study centres of its Directorate of Distance Education (DDE). The university has its only campus in Rohtak but its distance education study centres are spread all over Haryana and also other states.

Seven die in shootout at Mexican cemetery

Seven people were killed and 17 wounded in a shootout at a cemetery in the northern Mexican state of Coahuila, said authorities.

The shootout occurred at 4.20 p.m. Monday at the Panteon del Tiempo cemetery in San Pedro de las Colonias, a city located east of Torreon, state security spokesman Sergio Sisbeles told EFE.

Gunmen riding three vehicles opened fire from outside the grounds on people attending the burial of Ricardo Valdes Bolivar, who was murdered Saturday, the spokesman said.

Valdes Bolivar’s associates returned fire, Sisbeles said.

China comes out with a white paper on disputed islands

China Tuesday published a white paper rejecting Japan’s claim of sovereignty over islands in the East China Sea even as top officials of the two countries held talks for the second day to bring the tensions, which escalated in the recent weeks.

“Diaoyu Dao (islands), an Inherent Territory of China and claims by Japan fly in the face of facts and are totally unfounded, ” the white paper published by Chinese government said. The islands were called as Senkaku by Japan.

Seven killed in Turkey bombing

A total of seven soldiers were killed Tuesday in a bomb attack targeting a military vehicle in a Turkish province, Xinhua reported.

According to local newspaper Today’s Zaman, the attack occurred in Ataturk district of the Tunceli province in the evening when .

A powerful explosion ravaged the downtown area of Tunceli and heavy casualties were reported.

A plume of smoke could be seen from most parts of the city as the armoured vehicle, the apparent target of the attack, caught fire, Turkey’s CNNTurk reported.

Govt. of A.P. has finalized its New Sand policy .As per this policy the rate of sand is fixed at Rs.325 per cubic meter. Sand policy has been formulated keeping in view the interests of the poor man. Speaking to newsmen, Ms. D.K. Aruna, Mining Minister disclosed that C.M. had constituted a seven-member committee and had instructed to formulate a policy, which could be acceptable to the poor. He clearly instructed the committee to keep the price as low as possible. She told that Govt. has imposed restriction on extracting sand from the rivers.
