Putting the BJP on the mat over infighting within the party and among the NDA constituents, RJD president Lalu Prasad today said the party is “on fire” and nobody has an inkling as to what will happen next.

“The BJP is on fire. Nobody has any idea of what earthquake will come or which volcano will erupt. Nobody knows what will happen next,” Prasad told reporters here.

India Test batsman Cheteshwar Pujara said his father-cum-coach and ex-Ranji Trophy cricketer Arvind Pujara played a very big and crucial role in making him a Test cricketer.

“He has played a very big and crucial role. Being the only child, my parents loved me so much. I was particularly close to my mother, who always dreamed of seeing me play for India one day,” Pujara was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo on Sunday.

“While my father took care of my cricket, my mother ensured that I became a good human being.”

Mumbai hooch tragedy: Death toll crosses 100

The death toll in the spurious liquor case in Mumbai has cross to 100, with a further 47 people hospitalised for consuming the hooch.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who had earlier order an enquiry into the matter, has announced an ex- gratia of Rs. one lakh to the families of the victims.

Reportedly, eight police officials have been suspended for ‘negligent approach while discharging their duty’ for not being able to check the production of spurious liquor and the case is being looked into by the crime branch. (ANI)

HAL delivers ‘Orbiter Craft Module Structure’ of Chandrayaan-2 to ISRO

State-owned aerospace and defence company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has delivered the ‘ Orbiter Craft Module Structure’ of Chandrayaan-2, India’s second lunar exploration mission, to Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) satellite centre in Bengaluru.

Chandrayaan-2, an advanced version of the previous mission, consists of an Orbiter, Lander and Rover configuration.

India had successfully launched Chandrayaan-1 on October 22, 2008.

Ukraine conflict: EU extends sanctions against Russia to January 2016

The European Union Foreign Ministers have reportedly extended the economic sanctions imposed on Russia until the end of January 2016.

A tweet posted by EU spokeswoman Maja Kocijancic said that the move was aimed at pressing Russia to abide by the Minsk ceasefire accord signed with Ukraine in February, reported the BBC.

The EU first imposed sanctions on Russia in the aftermath of the Kremlin’s annexation of Crimea in March 2014. They were then escalated because of Russia’s role in conflict-torn eastern Ukraine.

Fake degree case: Tomar’s bail application rejected, sent to 14 days judicial custody

Former Delhi law minister Jitender Singh Tomar, who has been accused of possessing two fake degrees, was on Monday sent to judicial custody for a further 14 days.

The court also rejected his bail application.

Earlier this month, Tomar was arrested in connection with his fake law degree. Following a complaint, an FIR had been lodged against him under IPC Sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120B for criminal conspiracy, cheating and forgery. (ANI)

Malaysia buries 21 Rohingya trafficking victims

Malaysia has reportedly buried 21 human trafficking victims, believed to be Rohingya refugees, in accordance with Muslim rites.

The 21 victims were among the 106 bodies found in shallow graves in 28 jungle camps along Thailand’s border last month. The area was used as a transit point to hold migrants and refugees by traffickers, reported the Dawn.

The burial took place in a village in the neighbouring Kedah state. Chief Minister Mukhriz Mahathir said that probe showed that the victims had died of starvation and illness.

Emirates cancels flight from UK to Dubai due to rat

An elusive rat on board an Emirates plane forced the airline to cancel the flight from Birmingham to Dubai last week after officials failed to catch the mouse, forcing passengers to spend another night in the UK.

“The airline suspended one of its flights ? Birmingham to Dubai ? after a rat had been spotted on board which caused fear among the passengers especially after all attempts made by the cabin crew to rid the plane of the mouse failed,” the airline was quoted as saying by Khaleej Times today.

Ansari row: Govt apologises for Ram Madhav’s criticism

The government today apologised for BJP leader Ram Madhav’s criticism of Vice President Hamid Ansari’s absence at the Yoga Day celebrations here over which the Congress accused it of playing “divisive” politics.

Union Minister Shripad Naik cited protocol to say that the Vice President can’t be invited to an event where the Prime Minister is chief guest amid reports that the government is upset with the needless controversy triggered by Madhav’s tweets.

Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has been reported again with a suspected illegal bowling action during the first cricket Test against Sri Lanka, which the visiting side won by 10 wickets here.

The match officials’ report, which was sent to the Pakistan management, cited concerns about the legality of the 34-year-old’s bowling action during the course of the match, according to a statement on the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) website on Monday.

10 days left to exchange pre-2005 currency notes

Only 10 days are left to exchange pre-2005 currency notes, including those of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations, at banks as the deadline to do so is ending on June 30.

Seeking cooperation for withdrawing pre-2005 currency notes from circulation, the RBI has asked the public to deposit the old design notes in their bank accounts or exchange them at a bank branch convenient to them.

The earlier deadline was January 1, but later the Reserve Bank had extended it till the end of this month.

All pre-2005 notes continue to remain a legal tender.

Nawab Najaf Ali Khan who is one of the grandsons of the VII Nizam of Hyderabad, Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan, President of of Nizam Family Welfare Association made an objection that the amount pertaining to Nizam’s Jewellery Trust is being distributed despite the matter being sub judice.

It may be mentioned that Rs 80 lakh was distributed so far. A case was filed in City Civil Court in 2010 which reserved the order.

Vice President office says Ansari was not invited to Yoga Day event

Vice President Hamid Ansari’s office said on Sunday night that he was not invited to the Yoga Day event in the capital after his absence was questioned by senior BJP and RSS leader Ram Madhav.

Mr. Madhav had deleted a tweet questioning Mr. Ansari’s absence and then apologising to him saying he later learnt that the Vice President was unwell.

The Vice President’s office said that was not correct.
