Struggling Woods just makes cut at Memorial

Five-time champion Tiger Woods scrambled to make a cut after Sweden’s David Lingmerth fired seven birdies in a seven-under 65 to grab the halfway stage lead at the Memorial Tournament in Ohio.

Woods bogeyed the 16th and 17th and needed to par the last for a 70 to make the cut at one under, the BBC has reported.

Lingmerth’s 12-under total of 132 gave him a one-shot lead over former US PGA Championship winner Jason Dufner, who carded a 67 for 133.

World number 58 from Nuneaton, Andy Sullivan had eight birdies in a 64 and reached 10 under.

IS leader in Afghan claims Taliban fighting for ISI

The leader of Islamic State (IS) affiliates in Afghanistan, Abdul Rahim Muslim Dost, has claimed that the Taliban militants are fighting for the military intelligence of Pakistan, Inter Services Intelligence ( ISI).

According to Khaama.com, Dost said that they found other ways to wage jihad after they came to know that the Taliban was receiving guidelines from Pakistani intelligence.

Dost, a former Guantanamo prisoner, alleged that they are defending against the Taliban militants.

In a breakthrough, scientists have found a new drug that promises to fight flu, bringing a dramatic reduction in death rates.

Canadian researchers have found a drug called vasculotide, was effective against multiple strains of influenza, including the 2009 swine flu pandemic strain, the Daily Express has reported.

Dr Warren Lee that the present treatments for the virus were “inadequate,” and the new drug may represent a “novel and practical therapy for severe infections with influenza.”

Forex reserves up by US $917.5 million to US $352.474 billion

Country’s foreign exchange reserves rose by US $917.5 million to touch US $352.474 billion in the week to May 29, helped by surge in foreign currency assets, according to RBI data.

In the previous week, the reserves had declined by US $2.319 billion to US $351.557 billion, after touching a record high of US $353.876 billion in the week to May 15.

United Breweries (Holdings) Ltd is seeking shareholders nod for its plans to earmark up to Rs 50 crore for investment and loan purpose, including provision of an immediate loan of up to Rs 25 crore to UB Engineering.

Four climbers injured as 6.0-magnitude quake jolts Malaysia’s Mt. Kinabalu

At least four climbers were injured after a powerful earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter Scale struck Malaysia’s Mount Kinabalu in Borneo.

The four climbers suffered broken bones and head wounds, as the temblor loosened stones and boulders on the mountain. There were a total of 145 climbers on the mountain at the time of the earthquake. Roads and buildings in the region had also cracked up, reports ABC News.

The U.S. Geological Survey located the epicentre of the quake about 54 kilometres from the state capital of Kota Kinabalu, at a depth of 10 kilometres.
