Asserting that each ceasefire violation committed by Pakistan would be retaliated in a forceful manner by India, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday said Islamabad must understand the fact that the government has changed in New Delhi.

The authorities in Odisha have started evacuating people to safer places as Cyclone Hudhud, which is expected to have a landfall on Saturday night or early Sunday morning, has started gaining speed.

According to reports, around four lakh people are being evacuated due to the threat of cyclone.

“There is huge rainfall and the media is saying that the winds will start from tomorrow. Last year we faced Cyclone Phailin and we are terrorized now,” said a local resident.

Three tribal militants, who had fled from their hideout in southeastern Bangladesh along with their families, surrendered to security forces in Tripura, police said here Thursday.
The three guerrillas — self-styled lieutenant of the NLFT (National Liberation Front of Tripura) Chiran Tripura, 42, Sepoy Mangal Mohan Tripura, 27, and area commander Rudra Mohan Reang, 27, — have also deposited one AK 56 rifle, one SLR (self loading rifle) and a large quantity of ammunition.

Rescue teams of the Indian Navy have been prepared for immediate deployment in anticipation of Cyclone Hudhud, which is expected to have a landfall on Saturday night or early Sunday morning.

“Considerable effort has been made to mobilize all the resources. The navy is fully ready. In addition, there is an NDRF team which has come. There is an army team of 200 personnel from Hyderabad, which are all being coordinated with the district administration. The navy will provide relief at the first opportunity to mitigate the ill-effects of the disaster,” Rear Admiral Ajendra B Singh told ANI.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to chair a high-level meeting here on Saturday to review the preparedness for Cyclone Hudhud, which is fast approaching the eastern coast of India.

According to sources, Prime Minister Modi will be briefed during the meeting about the precautionary steps that have been taken in case of any eventualities arising out of the landfall of the cyclone.

Tens of thousands of people from low-lying areas of coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh have been evacuated as the state intensified preparations to face Cyclone Hudhud, expected to reach the northern coastline around Visakhapatnam by forenoon tomorrow.

As many as 24,000 people were shifted from Visakhapatnam district, 15,000 from Vizianagaram and 46,000 from Srikakulam and 160 from East Godavari district so far, special commissioner, state disaster management authority, K Hymavathi said.

She said that 146 cyclone relief shelters have been opened in the coastal districts.

Exporters in carpet industry in Uttar Pradesh expected a boost in sales after the recent five-day U.S visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Traders say that the Bhadohi region of the state is one of the largest manufacturers of carpets and is considered to be an earning town.

Also, 60 per cent of the carpets are exported to the U.S. from India. In a bid to boost the industry, exporters said Modi’s US visit would benefit them.
