No terror links found in IS flag waving incident in Kashmir: Omar

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said that a case had been registered against people who had waved an Islamic State (IS) flag in Kashmir last week, but added that no terror links had been found so far.

“A case has been registered against those waving the ISIS flags. However, till now, no terror links have been found. But, all the details will be revealed after the enquiry,” said Abdullah.

Abdullah denied the presence of IS elements in the state and stated that the waving of the flag was an act by “some idiots” that “unfortunately” caught the media’s attention.

Passengers complain of delay in visa by Pakistan for cross border travel

Passengers, who intend to go to Pakistan, have been compelled to prolong their stay, as the process of granting visit permit clearances from the Chakan-da-Bagh border post in Kashmir continues to be delay ed.

A fresh batch of 32 Indians had crossed over Line of Control (LoC) towards Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) to see their blood relations.

This batch has been allowed to enter PoK after a gap of four months as Pakistan authorities cleared the list of 32 Indians to cross over the disputed border via Poonch- Rawalakot bus service. While Poonch is in Kashmir, Rawalkot is in PoK.

Sensex gains 146 points; banks stocks rise

Healthy buying was observed in automobile and consumer durable sectors, while selling pressure was seen in oil and gas and healthcare.

Policeman resuces Ashish Vidyarthi from drowning on set

Actor Ashish Vidyarthi suffered a mishap on the sets of his film ‘Bollywood Diary’ when he nearly drowned in the river before being rescued by a policeman.

The incident occurred when the 52-year-old actor was doing a scene in river Shivnath and the current swept Vidyarthi and he started drowning.

On seeing, the actor’s plight, constable Vikash Singh, who was present on the site, jumped into the river and pulled Vidyarthi out.

HC restrains online retailer from using L’oreal trademark

The Delhi High Court has restrained an online retailer from using the name of L’oreal to sell or supply any goods on any website or in any other manner on the cosmetics company’s plea alleging counterfeit products having its trademark were being sold by the merchant.

Justice G S Sistani passed the interim order on the civil suit filed by L’oreal which has alleged that products bearing its trademark were being sold by online retailer, Brandworld, on a shopping website – www.ShopClues.Com.

BJP accuses Akhilesh of failing poll promises

The BJP Tuesday accused the Akhilesh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh of failing to live up to its poll promises.

The party’s state president Vijay Bahadur Pathak questioned the government’s decision to shelve the scheme to distribute free laptops to Class 12 pass-outs.

“The chief minister tom-toms the laptop scheme as his biggest achievement but he has shelved the scheme in the current budget,” Pathak told reporters here.

Bangladesh bus accident toll rises to 34

The toll in an accident involving two passenger buses in Bangladesh has escalated to 34, media reported Tuesday.

Police said a Rajshahi-bound bus of Keya Paribahan Monday collided head-on with a Gurudaspur Upazila-bound bus of Othoi Paribahan in the Rejir Morh area of Natore district, bdnews24.com reported.

The government has opened an investigation into the mishap.

Witnesses and survivors blamed the Keya Paribahan bus for the accident saying it rammed into the other bus while overtaking a truck.

Traffic on the key highway resumed in the evening after two hours of blockage.

Comet Siding Spring nucleus relatively small: NASA

NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter successfully captured views of the comet C/2013 A1 Siding Spring when it whizzed past Mars Sunday, obtaining key information about its nucleus.

The images taken by the High-Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) show only two to three pixels across the brightest feature, probably the nucleus, suggesting a size smaller than half the estimate, NASA stated.

Telescopic observers had modelled the size of the nucleus at about 1 km wide.

Male IBS patients report more social stress

Male patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) experience more interpersonal difficulties than their female counterparts, a study found.

A disabling and intractable gastrointestinal disorder, IBS is twice as common among women than men.

“Our findings underscore the significance of studying gender-based differences in how people experience the same disease or condition,” said Jeffrey Lackner, professor of medicine at the University of Buffalo in the US.

Australian nurse discharged after Ebola scare

An Australian nurse, who was admitted to a hospital in Cairns for symptoms of the Ebola virus, is set to return to lead normal life after three weeks in isolation, Brisbane Time reported.

Australian Red Cross aid worker Sue Ellen Kovack was admitted to a Cairns hospital earlier this month days after she returned from Sierra Leone where she was working as a nurse, attending Ebola patients for a month.

The 57-year-old was twice tested negative for the virus before she was discharged from the hospital Oct 13 to complete the 21-day incubation period for Ebola at home.

Omar Abdullah hopes Modi will look to revoke AFSPA

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Tuesday said there has been “double-digit reduction in violence” in the state so the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi should take a look at revocation of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA).

“Taking 2008-2009 as the base, the decline in militancy has been of the order of 60 to 70 percent in the state,” Abdullah said while attending the Police Commemoration Day function in Srinagar.

A total of 58,789 centenarians are living in China, and the oldest is 128 years old, the Gerontological Society of China revealed Tuesday.

Three-quarters of the long-living people are women, and most of them are living in the countryside, Xinhua reported citing the society.

Provinces with the most centenarians are south China’s Hainan and Guangxi and central China’s Anhui, where the environment is good and the economy is “moderately developed”.

Pistorius sentenced to five years in jail for murdering Steenkamp

Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has been sentenced to five years in jail for shooting his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp dead.

Judge Thokozile Masipa pronounced her ruling on Tuesday in Pistorius’ murder trial. Pistorius had shot Steenkamp dead on Valentines Day last year and had maintained that he mistook her for an intruder in his Pretoria home.
