Sharing science work via social media like Twitter is good for researchers in getting their works noticed, shows a study.

Even young scientists are more keen to share their achievements via the social media, showed the study.

“I’ve been in science communication for a while now, and I am really seeing a change – especially among the younger scientists – in their willingness to share their work,” said Dominique Brossard, professor life sciences communication at University of Wisconsin-Madison, US.

Mizoram teacher arrested for sexually abusing 32 students

A government school teacher was arrested in Mizoram on charges of raping and sexually abusing 32 students, police said here Friday.

“Saichal village (Champhai district in eastern Mizoram) primary school teacher Lalhmingmawia, 30, was arrested Friday after first information reports were lodged with the police by parents of two victims,” a police official said.

The official said that subsequent inquiry and interrogation of the teacher revealed that he had either molested or raped 30 more girl students in the past three years in the same school.

P.L. Punia files nomination for Rajya Sabha polls

Congress leader P. L. Punia on Friday filed his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha polls from Uttar Pradesh.

Punia’s name was announced earlier on Tuesday by All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Madhusudan Mistry.

69-year-old Punia is a former bureaucrat and ex-chairman of National Commission for Scheduled Castes.

The Congress, which has just 28 MLAs, needs the support of nine more to see Punia through. The Samajwadi Party, which has 221 members, is expected to support Punia.

Speculation rife over Cabinet reshuffle

Speculation is rife over a possible reshuffle of the Union Cabinet by the end of this week, the first since Prime Minister Narendra Modi -led BJP government came into power at the Centre.

Sources state that among the possible changes in the Cabinet are those of Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar shifting to New Delhi as Defence Minister and of BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi being given a Cabinet berth.

Nitish hints at merger of splinter groups to counter BJP

Former Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday hinted that the leaders who attended the meeting at Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav’s residence could merge in the near future and listed three major issues among others to keep the BJP-led government at the Centre on its toes.

“Following the meeting today, we unanimously decided that we should work together. As of now, we have decided to work together; whether a merger will happen or not we will see in the future,” Nitish told a press conference here.

Modi to address public functions in Nepal

In an apparent bid to reach out to Nepalis living close to the Indian border, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address two public functions during his upcoming visit to Nepal.

These will take place in two religious destinations: Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, and Janakpur, which is closely associated with the Hindu epic Ramayana.

Modi will reach Janakpur Nov 25 from Patna, pray at the Ram-Janaki temple and address a public function there, a diplomatic source told IANS.

He is likely to inaugurate some projects to be funded by the Indian government.

Vishakhapatnam Police arrests professor for supplying explosives to Maoists

The Vishakhapatnam Police on Thursday arrested an associate professor of a state-run university for allegedly supplying explosives to Maoists.

According to media reports, J. Apparao, who teaches in Telugu Department at the Andhra University, had long been a tribal activist. He allegedly had links with the Communist Party of India ( Maoists ) and other rebels.

Students and staff members of the university staged protests outside the office of Superintendent of Police, Visakhapatnam, K. Praveen, demanding his release.
