A private bus lost control and rammed into a tree near the Behram village in the Nawan Shehar district of Punjab, killing 14 people on board.

A further 25 people have been injured, with some in a serious condition.

Garbage crisis: AAP asks BJP to not ‘punish’ people of Delhi

The Aam Aadmi Party on Friday asked the Bharatiya Janata Party not to punish the people of Delhi for electing the former to power.
“Please do not engage in such kind of politics. Don’t punish the people of Delhi for voting for the AAP,” AAP leader Sanjay Singh said at a media briefing.

The party also labelled the BJP-run Municipal Corporation of Delhi as one of the world’s ‘most corrupt bodies’.

Thai general suspended for human trafficking role

Authorities in Thailand have suspended top human trafficking suspect Lt.General Manas Khongpaen from military service and seized four million Baht and other assets from him.

Manas, a former special adviser to the Thai army, was arrested on June 3 amid a crackdown on human traffickers in Thailand after discovery of 34 skeletons.

According to local daily, The Nation, the skeletons were believed to be of Myanmar’s Rohingyas and Bangladeshi people-from mass graves in the southern region of Thailand.

Amidst pro-Pak slogans, IS flag unfurled at Srinagar rally

The flag of the dreaded Islamic State (IS) was waved at a rally at the Jama Masjid in the Nowhatta area of Srinagar.

After the black flag was unfurled, cries of ‘Jeeve Jeeve Pakistan’ were also heard.

Those in the rally later blocked the road leading to the mosque and took to stone pelting, targeting nearby security forces.

Hurriyat hardliner Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was also seen at the venue.

Since ‘Downton Abbey’ will be on our screens for the last time later in 2015, the cast is busy filming their emotional farewell scenes for the final 6th series.

David Robb, Sue Johnston and Kevin Doyle have been snapped on location as they work on what will be some of their final moments on the show, the Mirror reported.

In one shot, Rob is seen with his legs stuck out as he rides on a bike, whilst the other two are seen engaged in conversation.

EC initiates ‘anti-trust probe’ into Amazon’s book business

The European Commission (EC) has reportedly begun a formal anti-trust probe into Amazon’s book business.

The commission will examine clauses in Amazon’s contracts that require publishers to inform the US firm about deals they have with its rivals, reported the BBC.

A statement released by the new EC Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager said that the move was aimed at ensuring that Amazon’s arrangements with publishers were not harming consumer interests by holding other e-book distributors from innovating and competing effectively with Amazon.

AAP demands probe against HRD Minister Irani’s ‘fake’ degrees

Six drown as trawler sinks in Meghna River in Bangladesh

At least six people, including four children drowned and 20 went missing as a trawler carrying 50 passengers capsized in Meghna river on Thursday.

The dead, according to the Daily Star, have been identified as Ayesha Khatun, 65, Jesmin, 22, Rupa, 3, Tanju, 3, Tahmina, 3, and Mishu, 2.

All of them were residents of different villages in Monpura upazila.

The Ramnewaj-bound trawler coming from Kalatoli sank near Dhal Char around 11.30 a.m. during a storm. (ANI)

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday extended his condolences to the family of a farmer, who committed suicide after being unable to repay the loans he had taken.

The official twitter account of Gandhi’s office shared the Amethi MP’s thoughts.

“Extremely sad to hear of the death of Sardar Surjit Singh who I met when I visited Punjab. My deepest condolences to his family. (1/2),” the office posted.

“Farmers in our country are in deep distress.I urge the Modi-Badal Govt to take action ¬ continue to ignore their plight:Rahul Gandhi(2/2),” it added.

Bangladesh capital Dhaka suffered from a massive traffic gridlock on Thursday as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated ‘Police Plaza’ in the city’s Gulshan area.

According to the Daily Star, vehicles were stationed bumper to bumper across most parts of Dhaka, as Hasina inaugurated thenewly-built commercial building of Bangladesh Police Welfare Trust.

China’s ex-security chief gets life time over corruption charges

China’s former security chief Zhou Yongkang has reportedly been jailed for life, becoming the first senior politician to be convicted on corruption charges since the Communist Party came to power in 1949.

He was accused of accepting bribe worth USD 21.3 million, abusing power and “intentionally disclosing national secrets”, reported the BBC.

At a closed-door trial in the northern city of Tianjin, Yongkang pleaded guilty and said that he would not file an appeal.

He has been stripped of all political rights and his property has been confiscated.
