Actress-filmmaker Angelina Jolie, who addressed delegates at the African Union summit, says violence against women is still treated as a lesser crime and is not being given the priority it deserves.

The 40-year-old award-winning actress, who is the special envoy of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, sat on a panel of foreign leaders on Thursday to deliver a speech at the bi-annual event that encourages more global support to end violence against women around the world, reports people.com.

Practice yoga first at home before coming to Bihar, Nitish tells Amit Shah

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah’s decision to be in Patna on June 21 International Yoga Day, led Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to say on Saturday that considering the latter’s health, he should do yoga at home first.

“I read that the BJP president will do yoga on Yoga Day. Considering his health, he should do it first at home,” Nitish told ANI here.

Nitish also lashed out at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP, saying they should not have made yoga a matter of publicity.

Met Department chief expects temperatures to drop further

The Met Department on Saturday said that it expected temperatures to drop further in the coming days.

B P Yadav, Director of the Department of Meteorology, told ANI on Saturday after a dust storm and rains struck the capital and nearby vicinities that the change in weather pattern was due to the excessive summer heat and harsh sun rays.

“Now, the temperature has come down, and after three days, the temperature will decrease some more. The wind speed was noted at 84-kilometers per hour by our equipments at safdurjung,” he said.

French Police pilloried for detaining six-year-old girl for three days

Airport police in Paris detained a six-year-old French girl for three days on suspicion that she had a fake passport.

The child was released after a judge ordered that she be placed in her mother’s custody.

According to the New York Times, the case has caused indignation in France amid a sensitive debate over police treatment of waves of undocumented migrants coming to Europe in recent months.

The girl was detained at the Charles de Gaulle Airport near Paris after arriving from Cameroon, said a lawyer representing them.

Quentin Tarantino’s new movie ‘ The Hateful Eight’ is all set for an exclusive two-week road show in 70mm nationwide that begins on Christmas Day.

Starring Samuel L. Jackson, the movie will mark the widest 70mm release that the industry has seen in more than 20 years, reported Us magazine.

Sources say that the filmmaker threatened to scrap the project altogether after the script leaked out and he eventually sued Gawker for publishing it on its site.

Unknown gunmen kill civilian in Kashmir

Unknown gunmen killed a local traders’ association president, Khurshid Ahmad, in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore town.

Ahmad, who was shot at around 9.30 pm on Thursday, was believed to be a sympathiser of hardliner separatist leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

“He was bleeding and lying in front of his gate. When we lifted him and reached the road, police and army were already there. When I enquired from SHO about the incident, he said they (unknown gunmen) were already there,” said Ahmad’s cousin brother, Abid.

Meanwhile, a resident, Ghulam, said pro-freedom civilians are being targeted.

Plastic waste is one of the most prominent sources of environmental pollution. Making the problem worse is the fact that it is hard to dispose of.

Early tea taken on fourth day in Fatullah Test

Rain continued to spoil the mood as early tea was taken on the fourth day of the lone test between India and Bangladesh.

Bangladesh were 111-3 when rain crept in just minutes before lunch and since then had been pouring heavily.

Imrul Kayes and Shakib al Hasan were at the crease on 59 and 0 respectively with Bangladesh still trailing by 351 runs.

Musharraf warns India, says Pak’s nuclear weapons not for ‘Shab-e-Barat’

Former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf has accused India of suppressing and destabilising Islamabad and threatened that they have built nuclear weapons for defence purposes and not for celebratory occasions.

The 71-year-old Pakistani politician said that they didn’t want to use nuclear capability, but if their existence came under threat then they would do so; their nukes are not for occasions like Shab-e-Barat, the Tribune has reported.

Night bus service stopped during Punjab militancy period resumes

Punjab Roadways Transport Corporation has started inter-state night bus service, which was stopped during the militancy period nearly three decades back.

The services were stopped in 1987 after an increase in the incidents of passengers being targeted by the militants.

Services have been resumed on short routes from Patiala to Chandigarh and Ambala to start with.

Sharif inaugurates Pak’s largest oil refinery

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has reportedly inaugurated the country’s largest oil refinery, Byco, in Balochistan’s Hub region.

Speaking on the occasion, Sharif hailed the development as “an important milestone” and said it will lead to economic development in the province and provide employment opportunities to the citizens, reports the Dawn.

He also said that about USD 750 million will be invested in the second phase of the oil refinery project. (ANI)

FA charges Arsenal for breaching agents’ regulation over Chambers’ transfer

Arsenal football club have been charged by the Football Association for allegedly violating football agents regulations in relation to the transfer of Calum Chambers from Southampton.
