Leicester City sack players involved in racist orgy

Leicester City have sacked three players who were reportedly filmed in a racist orgy during their Thailand tour.

In the film, Tom Hopper, Adam Smith and James Pearson were seen verbally abusing three Thai girls while they committed sexual acts with them in a Bangkok hotel room, the Mirror reported.

The contracts of the players have been terminated by the club after the players were sent home from the Premier League club’s goodwill tour of Thailand at the end of May.

ECB to launch Women’s Cricket super league

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has decided to make its biggest investment in women’s cricket by pumping three million pounds to launch a six-team super league tournament.

The tournament, which is scheduled to start next summer, will initially employ the T20 format and would go on for two weeks, the BBC reports.

However, the venues and dates have still not been decided.

Delighted with the announcement, ECB chief executive Tom Harrison said that it was a major step forward for the women’s game in England.

ICC confirms squads for World Twenty20 Qualifier 2015

The International Cricket Council (ICC) can confirm all 14 competing squads as preparations have been intensified ahead of the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier 2015, which is scheduled to be staged in Ireland and Scotland from 9 to 26 July.

The top six sides from the 18-day tournament, during which 51 matches will be played, will join the 10 Full Members for the ICC World Twenty20 India 2016, which will be held from 11 March to 3 April 2016.

Cleaner air could save 1.4 million lives in India, China

Improving air quality could prevent up to 1.4 million premature deaths per year in polluted countries such as China and India, a new study has found.

The study also warned that with no changes in air pollution, deaths per capita from air pollution would increase 20 to 30% during the next 15 years in India and China. The researchers found that meeting the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) particulate air quality guidelines could prevent 2.1 million deaths per year related to outdoor air pollution worldwide.

Retain level of fund flows under central schemes: West Bengal to NITI

West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra on Wednesday said the state has asked NITI Aayog to retain the money sanctioned under central schemes for implementation of various projects at previous years’ level.

Replying to the debate for the passage of the West Bengal Appropriation (No. 2) Bill, 2015, Mitra informed the Assembly that the state had already written to the NITI Aayog in this regard, adding that several other states had also done so.

The NITI Aayog has already set up a committee to look into the demands of the state governments, he added.

‘Housing for All’ scheme launched, interest relief for urban poor

Government on Wednesday launched its ‘Housing for All by 2022’ mission and approved a substantial increase in interest relief on loan for the urban poor to promote affordable homes.

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi accepted the recommendations of an Inter-Ministerial Committee to increase interest subvention to 6.50% on housing loans to beneficiaries belonging to economic weaker section (EWS) including slum- dwellers and low income groups (LIGs).

45% companies admit inability to measure cyber security risk: Survey

When it comes to cyber security, 45% organisations admit to their inability to measure, assess and mitigate risk, describing their capabilities in this area as “non-existent”, a survey on Wednesday said.

According to a survey by RSA, the security division of EMC, size of a company is not a determinant of strong cyber security maturity and nearly 75% of all respondents lack the maturity to address cyber security risks.

Rupee ends 14 paise up at 64.12 vs US Dollar on fresh dollar selling

Snapping its 4-day losing streak, the rupee on Wednesday closed 14 paise higher at 64.12 against the US dollar on fresh selling of the greenback by exporters amid weakness of the American currency in overseas markets.

Besides, persistent rise in the equity market boosted the rupee value against the dollar.

The rupee resumed higher at 64.18 as against yesterday’s closing level of 64.26 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) and firmed up further to 64.09 before ending at 64.12, a gain of 14 paise or 0.22%.

It had dropped by 42 paise, or 0.66%, in previous four trading sessions.

Tata Steel workers in the UK have temporarily suspended their industrial action as emergency talks offered new hope of an agreement over an ongoing pensions row.

Members of four trade unions –- Unite, Community, GMB and Ucatt –- had started an overtime ban and work-to-rule slowdown on Tuesday ahead of 24-hour strike on June 22 to protest changes to their pension scheme.

But they confirmed it has been suspended as negotiators secured a new offer which could see the scheme remain open.

Keen to cash in on the online shopping boom, the Adidas Group will soon roll out Omni-channel model, a new mode of technology, at its retail outlets in Punjab.

The company aims to fully integrate 200 outlets using this technology across India by March 2016.

Reliance Industries shares rise for 4th straight session; surge 3%

Shares of Reliance Industries climbed 3% on Wednesday, its fourth straight session of gains, on continued optimism over the company’s plans to start 4G phone services later this year.

RIL’s scrip ended with a gain of 3% at Rs 931.10 on BSE. During the day, it jumped 4% to Rs 940.40.

At the NSE, the stock settled at Rs 931.20, a gain of 3% from its previous closing price.

In four days, the stock has gained over 6%.

On the volume front, 8.70 lakh shares of the company changed hands and over 59 lakh shares were traded at the NSE during the day.

Bandhan gets RBI nod to set up bank; to begin operations from Aug 23

Micro-lender Bandhan Financial Services on Wednesday said it has received final nod from the Reserve Bank to set up a universal bank and will commence operations from August 23.

The entity will be named as Bandhan Bank.

“We will launch the bank in Kolkata, where Bandhan is headquartered, on August 23,” its Chairman and Managing Director Chandra Shekhar Ghosh told reporters here on Wednesday.

Bandhan had received the RBI’s in-principle banking licence in April last year, along with infrastructure finance company IDFC.
