Tihar jail inmates practice yoga on International Yoga Day

The prison inmates in New Delhi’s Tihar jail practiced yoga today on the occasion of the International Yoga Day.

This initiative at Tihar was organised by the prison authorities in collaboration with the Panchawati Yogashram, an institute which provides training in yoga.

Panchawati Yogashram’s Swami Ashutosh, who gave lessons to the inmates, said that the inmates after being trained in yoga would be awarded certificates as yoga instructors and later employed by the institute itself once they complete their prison term.

Acid-reducing meds may up C. Diff. infection risk in kids

A new study has found that infants and children, who take acid-reducing medications, could have a significantly greater risk of developing Clostridium difficile infection.

The findings, reported by Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) researchers, suggest that pediatricians may do more harm than good by prescribing these drugs for children who have non-specific gastrointestinal symptoms such as occasional vomiting.

Studies have shown that use of medications called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) may contribute to C. diff. infection in adults.

Manjhi asks Paswan not to raise old issues, says ‘will sort this out’

Former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Sunday downplayed Ram Vilas Paswan’s comment that he would not back those accompanying him in the NDA fold, saying the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) president should not raise old issues.

“It is up to them whether they will support or oppose, but they shouldn’t bring up old issues. I am going to speak to him. We can sort out this issue within the NDA,” said Manjhi.

Paswan had earlier said that he would welcome Manjhi in the NDA, but would oppose those planning to become a part of the alliance along with the former Bihar chief minister.

Meenakshi Lekhi urges Lalu to practice yoga

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Meenakshi Lekhi on Sunday urged Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav to practice yoga in order to avail its benefits.

“Lalu ji can also get the benefits of yoga if he practices. He would understand better on the subjects of mental balance, physical balance, emotional balance. I would urge him to practice yoga,” she told ANI.

The BJP leader’s reaction came after Lalu junked the International Yoga Day concept. As per reports, Lalu accused the ruling BJP at the Centre of playing a political game on the issue.

Memorial for Lamar Odom’s dead best pal will be in NY next week

Lamar Odom’s best friend Jamie Sangouthai, who recently died in Hollywood, will be flown home to New York for his burial.

As per RadarOnline.com, a service for the former Queens boy will be held at Seneca Chapels in Ridgewood, New York, on June 22 and June 23 from 4 to 9 pm each night.

A source close to Odom told Radar that he has spoken with Sangouthai’s mom and told her how sad he is about his death. He told her that he really misses his friend.

Indian armed forces join International Yoga Day celebrations

The Indian armed forces on Sunday joined the International Yoga Day celebrations.

The yoga sessions were carried out by the Indian Army personnel in various units across the country, including Kargil and Ladakh.

The Indian Navy held yoga sessions across its installations and on Indian Navy ships deployed overseas in world oceans.

INS Ranvir, Satpura, Kamorta and Shakti celebrated the International Yoga Day in the South China sea region with the theme ‘Across the Oceans’.

UK to ratify Hague convention to protect cultural property in conflict zones

The United Kingdom will adopt the 1954 Hague Convention designed to protect cultural property during army conflict.

According to BBC, the government of UK has never adopted the Hague convention into law ever since it was set up after World War two.

UK Culture Secretary John Whittingdale said that it is now essential after the destruction and looting by Islamic State (IS) militants in Iraq and Syria.

The UK is the only big country that has not adopted the convention yet.

Nine states asked to ‘immediately’ implement Forest Act

Taking a serious view of some states not implementing the Forest Rights Act, the Centre has directed Bihar, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand to expeditiously implement it.
