2nd salon worker charged in silicone injection death

A second salon worker has been charged with murder after a Dallas woman died from illegal silicone injections to expand her buttocks.

Denise Rochelle Ross, 43, was held today on USD 45,000 bond, according to Dallas County court records.

Wykesha Reid’s February death was ruled a homicide earlier this week. The cause of death was pulmonary silicone embolization, or blockage of a lung artery from a substance that’s traveled through the bloodstream; it’s associated with cosmetic silicone injections in the buttocks.

French investigators expand Germanwings probe: victims’ group

Three investigative judges are taking over a probe into the Germanwings crash in the French Alps to determine if anyone can be held liable for the tragedy, a disaster support group said today.

Brice Robin, the prosecutor of the southern French city of Marseille, announced the next step in the probe to some 200 family members who flew to Paris for an update, said Stephane Gicquel, the head of the support group.

According to Gicquel, the judges would be investigating a case of “manslaughter”.

Eight sentenced to life for murdering a man

A local court today sentenced eight persons to life imprisonment for murdering a 50-year-old man two years ago in a dispute over land and a well in Tahala village of the district.

The Sessions court judge Ashok Kumar Vyas convicted Tejmal, Bhola, Jagdish, Devlal, Devkaran, Radhye Shyam, Nanda and Kajod for murdering 50-year-old Kalyan Gujjar and awarded them the sentence, prosecuting counsel Bhupendra Sahay Saxena said.

Sri Lanka to raise up to USD 2 bn in foreign borrowings

Sri Lanka’s new government plans to borrow up to USD 2.0 billion from overseas, the finance minister said today, just two weeks after raising a billion through its first international bond issue.

Minister Ravi Karunanayake said the government was seeking at least USD 1.0 billion with a five-year tenure, but may increase the loan amount to USD 2.0 billion depending on the market response.

“Tomorrow we will advertise and call for bids. We hope to collect USD 1.0 billion in a couple of days. It would even go up to USD 2.0 billion,” Karunanayake said.

Scribe murder case: Forensic investigation completed

Forensic investigation in the murder of journalist Jagendra Singh by a team, including two scientists from here, has been completed and the findings would now be shared with the local police, a senior officer said here today.

“Yesterday it was expected that a unit from Moradabad and two senior scientists from Lucknow, who are expert in investigating such scene of crime, will visit Shahjahanpur and collect forensic evidences and recreate scene of crime,” IG (Law and Order) A Satish Ganesh told reporters here.

HC irked over pace of probe into murder former DMK minister’s

Expressing dissatisfaction over the progress of probe into the case relating to the death of the brother of former DMK minister K N Nehru, the Madras High Court today sought to know what was wrong in transferring the case to CBI, as demanded by the wife of the deceased.

“It is three years since the murder took place. CB-CID police have not arrested any person. They were using the old technology during investigation,” Justice S Nagamuthu said.

He directed the government advocate to get government’s instructions and posted the case for hearing to tomorrow.

32-year-old man shot dead in UP

A 32-year-old man was shot dead by two persons in a brick kiln in Khekra of Baghpat district, police said today.

Vinod Bansal (32), a resident of Ganoli village in Baghpat who used to work as JCB driver, was shot dead last afternoon and his body was thrown off in a canal, Officiating Superintendent of Police (rural) Amar Singh said.

SHO Khekra police station Subodh Yadav misguided the villagers and told them that injured Vinod is under treatment in a hospital and will return soon, he said.

Boko Haram gunmen killed at least 43 people and burnt down three villages in northeast Nigeria, residents said today, the latest in an upsurge of attacks by the Islamist militants.

Dozens of rebels on motorcycles stormed Matangale, Buraltima and Dirmanti in restive Borno state on Tuesday, opening fire on villagers before looting and burning homes, fleeing residents said.

News of the assault was slow to emerge due to poor communication in the region after Boko Haram destroyed telecoms masts in previous attacks.

Rare case of congenital fusion: AIIMS committee on removal of

A high-powered committee of AIIMS constituted to probe the allegation of removal of kidneys of a 6-year-old girl has said that there was no breach of standard protocols as it was a “rare case of congenital fusion of two kidneys.”

The committee, in its report, said that in this case, left kidney was grossly hydronephrotic and enlarged in size.

“It was fused with the opposite kidney. The huge enlargement of the left kidney displaced the fused right kidney towards right side and hence on all preoperative imaging appeared as a normal kidney,” it said.

HC orders status quo on erecting 400 KV transmission line

The Madras High Court today ordered that status quo be maintained till July 14, 2015 on erecting a Rs 2,300 crore 400 KV transmission line through the lands of 12 agriculturists in two villages in Kancheepuram district.

Justice M Sathyanarayanan, before whom the petitions filed by the 12 agriculturalists came up, stated that the order of status quo was only in respect of their lands in Vembedu and Kayar villages

The matter relates to laying of a Super High Tension Transmission Line from Pugalur to Ottiampakkam passing through these two hamlets.

A group of 150 men enters police station, manhandles SHO

In a blatant show of muscle power, around 150 entered the premises of Old Faridabad police station and allegedly manhandled the Station House Officer and some other personnel when they tried to mediate a dispute between two groups.

10 militants killed in search operation in Pakistan

At least 10 militants were killed today in a search operation by security forces in Pakistan’s restive tribal North Waziristan region.

The operation was conducted in Dattakhel area close to the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in North Waziristan, a statement issued by issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

The late night operation came hours after security forces said they killed Haji Ilyas Gul, a wanted terrorist, in an intelligence-based operation in Spin Khawrah area bordered by Bannu and North Waziristan, Geo News reported.

Teenager buried alive in wall collapse; another injured

A teenage girl was buried alive and another person was seriously wounded in a wall collapse in Wada town today evening, the district police said.

The Wada police said that after a heavy downpour, the wall of a house collapsed this evening.

In the mishap, one Sonali Harishankar Chavan, (16) was buried alive while her cousin Sonal Jaishankar Chavan (14) was seriously wounded, the police said.

The injured teenager has been admitted to the Thane civil hospital, the police said.

NDMC removes 7 illegal rooftop ads in Karol Bagh; 212 FIRs

Seven illegal rooftop advertisements were today removed from a commercial area in Karol Bagh in north Delhi, the NDMC said.

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) as part of formulating its new advertising policy has been taking action against illegal advertising in the city for the last couple of weeks, besides its regular anti-encroachment drive.

“Today we (NDMC) removed seven illegal rooftop advertisements at Kamal Restaurant Chowk in our Karol Bagh zone. Five unipoles were also removed in Rajinder Nagar area of the same zone,” a senior official of the NDMC said.

Journalists demand strict action against Verma

A group of journalists here submitted a memorandum addressed to Governor Ram Naik today, demanding prompt and strict action against UP minister Ram Murti Verma and five others for allegedly being involved in killing journalist Jagendra Singh.

Congolese man assaulted in Faridabad

A DR Congo national was allegedly racially discriminated against and assaulted by security guards of the residential society they live in here.

Losasa Djunga Chansard (23), a resident of the SRS Residency in Sector 88, in a complaint alleged that the security guards at his building attacked him and his brother with batons, police said.

He said the incident happened on the night on June 10 when he and his brother returned home after visiting their friends.

The security guards hurled racial slurs and attacked them.
