Hollywood star Bradley Cooper is bringing the incredible world of Dan Simmons’ classic “Hyperion” book series to television.

The 40-year-old actor is partnering with “The Hangover director” Todd Phillips and “The Departed” producer Graham King to turn the 1989 Hugo Award-winning novel into a series for Syfy, reported Los Angeles Times.

“Hyperion” follows seven travellers seeking to answer some of the universe’s greatest questions while a warring galaxy teeters on Armageddon.

David Beckham to star in ‘King Arthur’?

Retired soccer star David Beckham will reportedly appear in Guy Ritchie’s new movie, “Knights Of The Roundtable: King Arthur.”

The 40-year-old soccer star will appear in his friend’s Middle Ages epic opposite Jude Law, Charlie Hunnam, Eric Bana and Poppy Delevingne, reported Huffington Post.

The former England player, however, might appear in a small role as ‘Blackleg Leader.’

“There’s going to be a version of the scene where Excalibur gets drawn from the stone. This is where Beckham factors in,” a source said.

Actress Natalie Zea is expecting her first child with husband, actor Travis Schuldt.

Zea, 40, who recently attended the premiere of her new movie, “Too Late”, with John Hawkes, at the LA Film Festival, is due in the fall,reported People Magazine.

After 10 years together, Zea and Schuldt actor got engaged in Kauai, Hawaii, in 2013, and married last summer.

US tourist rescued after 16 hours adrift in Honduras

An 18-year-old US tourist has been rescued off the coast of Honduras after strong winds and currents pushed his kayak out to sea for a 16-hour ordeal.

Andy Lopez, regional chief of the Permanent Commission for Contingencies, said a US military helicopter lowered a rescuer to snag Aaron Rose of Orange, Texas on Thursday morning 18 miles off the coast of the popular Atlantic beach destination Roatan island.

He says Rose was hospitalised in good condition.

California orders large water cuts for farmers

Drought-stricken California has ordered the largest cuts on record to farmers holding some of the state’s strongest water rights.

State water officials yesterday told more than a hundred senior rights holders in California’s Sacramento, San Joaquin and delta watersheds to stop pumping from those waterways.

The move by the State Water Resources Control Board marked the first time that the state has forced large numbers of holders of senior-water rights to curtail use. Those rights holders include water districts that serve thousands of farmers and others.

Disappointed at being left out of the Test squad for the one-off match against India, Bangladesh all-rounder Rubel Hossain said the omission has fired him up for the three ODIs starting June 18.

Rubel was rested form the Tests to keep him fresh for the ODIs, according to coach Chandika Hathurusingha.

Kerala Police arrest 8 AAI fire officials

Eight fire and safety officials of the Airports Authority of India were arrested today in connection with the June 10 violent incidents which claimed the life of a CISF jawan at Karipur airport near here.

Police said they were arrested this afternoon under various IPC sections, including 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). The airport was temporarily shut down after the clash between CISF and fire department officials of AAI following an argument over frisking of some personnel around 9.40 pm on June 10.

Duesseldorf prosecutor Christoph Kumpa confirmed a report today in German daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung that Andreas Lubitz searched on the Internet in March for ways of getting hold of potassium cyanide, valium and lethal combinations of medicines.

4 Westerners plead guilty to posing naked on Malaysian peak

Four Westerners who posed naked on Malaysia’s highest peak pleaded guilty today to a charge of obscene behavior in a public place, news reports said.

The four were among 10 foreigners who stripped naked and took photos on Mount Kinabalu on May 30. A local official has said the foreigners’ behavior was disrespectful to the mountain, which is believed to be sacred, and caused an earthquake last Friday that killed 18 climbers.

Pak shuts down ‘Save the Children’ offices

Pakistan ordered international children’s aid agency ‘Save the Children’ to shut down its operations in the country as authorities today said no NGOs “working against the country” will be allowed to continue.

The charity’s country office here was sealed yesterday after government officials accompanied by police placed a lock on its gate and and asked employees to leave.

The non-governmental organisation’s foreign staff has been directed to leave Pakistan within 15 days, police said.

More rate cuts by banks on anvil, says Jaitley

Pakistan Foreign Office dismisses EU’s concern over death penalty

Pakistan has reportedly dismissed the European Union’s (EU) concern over reactivation of the death penalty, saying that it was not violating international laws.

Foreign Office Spokesman Qazi Khalilullah was quoted by The Dawn, as saying that only those convicts, who were involved in heinous crimes, were being hanged.

The statement came a day after EU asked Pakistan to reinstate the moratorium on capital punishments and respect all of its international obligations, while expressing concern over the increasing number of executions in the country.

Activists oppose Centre’s plans to build dams on Siang

Dam activists in Arunachal Pradesh have called the Centre’s plans to build two massive dams on Siang river a case of “discrimination, imperialism and neo-colonialism”.

On June 4, Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharati told reporters that “the solution on Brahmaputra’s perennial flow lies in middle Siang” and that the river “is the answer for floods in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam”.

After Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi claimed that his state had not been informed of any such proposal, the NGO Siang People’s Forum has also joined in to express its opposition.

US opens probe against TCS, Infosys for H1-B visa violations

The US government has opened an investigation against two of the biggest Indian outsourcing companies for possible violations of H1-B visa rules, according to a media report.

The Department of Labour has opened the investigation against Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys for “possible violations of rules for visas for foreign technology workers under contracts they held with an electric utility Southern California Edison,” the New York Times said.
