Slovenia detains former Kosovo PM on Serbian warant

Former Kosovo prime minister Ramush Haradinaj, acquitted by a UN court of war crimes during the 1990s Kosovo conflict, said he was detained today at Ljubljana airport on an Interpol warrant issued by Serbia.

“I was in transit, the checking of my documents was lasting for a long time and when I asked what was going on … I was told that there was an arrest warrant that was still valid,” Haradinaj told AFP over the phone.

Morgan Spector joins ‘Paradise Pictures’

USA Network is travelling back in time to the Golden Age of Hollywood with a new drama pilot starring “Allegiance” actor Morgan Spector.

“Suits” creator Aaron Korsh is partnering with the cable network for “Paradise Pictures”, which takes place at a booming 1940s Hollywood film studio, reported Deadline.

Spector has been cast in the lead role as Tom Kirby, the brash and ego-driven head of production at Paradise Pictures.

While Tom Kirby isn’t the owner of “Paradise Pictures”, he is a power-broker who is quickly developing influence among Hollywood’s top executives.

Hollywood star Robert Downey Jr has confirmed Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) about his presence in the “Captain America: Civil War”.

Hulk and Thor were initially not enlisted to appear in the upcoming movie. However, the “Ironman” actor has informed Ruffalo about his presence as Hulk, reported Aceshowbiz.

Marine guilty of murder in retrial for 2006 civilian killing

A Marine sergeant has been convicted of murdering an Iraqi civilian in 2006, the second time a military jury has returned a guilty verdict in what has become one of the most complicated and long-running criminal cases from the Iraq War.

The jury of three enlisted men and three military officers found Sgt Lawrence Hutchins III guilty yesterday of unpremeditated murder.

His wife, Reyna Hutchins, sobbed as the verdict was read. He embraced and kissed her before he left the courtroom.

185kg of cocaine, valued at USD 85 million, seized in Italy

Italian police announced today they had seized 185 kilograms of cocaine (400 pounds) at the port of Genes.

Four people were arrested trying to bring the drugs out of the port in Italy’s northwest, police said in a statement, adding that the stash had a street value of 75 million euros (USD 85 million).

Three of those arrested were employees of a local company that provides port services, while the fourth was an Italian who had been wanted by the police for armed robbery, kidnapping and receiving stolen goods.

US manhunt for killers draws blank despite 1,400 leads

Nearly two weeks after their elaborate escape from a New York prison, more than 1,400 leads have failed to locate two dangerous murderers on the run, US agents admitted today.

Richard Matt, 49, and David Sweat, 35, escaped 12 days ago from a maximum security jail in New York state, in a carefully rehearsed, elaborate prison break that has been likened to a Hollywood movie.

New York police released doctored photographs of the two escapees showing how they could look 12 days on with facial hair growth.

74 kg contraband seized from Tanzanian woman at Mumbai airport

In one of the biggest drugs seizure at Mumbai airport, the Customs department’s Air Intelligence Unit today seized 74 kgs of a contraband, suspected to be methaqualone, from a Tanzanian national.

“We have arrested Chambo Fatma Basil under NDPS Act who was carrying 74 kgs of the contraband worth about Rs 7.4 crores,” Additional Commissioner of Customs Milind Lanjewar said.

Basil was departing to Dar es Salaam via Qatar Airways when she was apprehended.

Crude palm oil futures down 0.61 % on subdued demand

Crude palm oil prices fell by 0.61 per cent to Rs 451.10 per 10 kg in futures trading today as participants offloaded positions due to subdued demand at spot market.

Besides, higher supplies from major producing areas and a weak trend at overseas market put pressure on crude palm oil prices.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, crude palm oil for delivery in July declined by Rs 2.80, or 0.61 per cent, to Rs 451.10 per 10 kg in a business turnover of 135 lots.

Similarly, the oil for delivery in June traded lower by Rs 2.40, or 0.52 per cent, to Rs 451.60 per 10 kg in 95 lots.

Goods train derails near Visakhapatnam

A goods train derailed today close to signal point at Borra railway station near here, disrupting traffic between Visakhapatnam and Kirandul section of the East Coast Railway.

The wheels of front wagon of the Kirandul-bound goods train derailed at Borra railway station, about 60-70 kms from here, at around 6 AM as the train was proceeding from Visakhapatnam, East Coast Railway, Visakhapatnam division’s official B Jairam said.

This caused disruption of further movement, particularly of the goods trains, on the track, he said.

One killed, 11 others injured in Bihar road accidents

One person was killed and 11 others were today injured in road accidents in Lakhisarai and Jehanabad districts of Bihar, police officials said.

A 43 year-old man was killed and six others were injured when a jeep carrying them lost control and overturned on NH-80 near Mankata village in Lakhisarai district, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sanjay Kumar said.

Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), with an eye on India, has asked its Indian partner to quicken the pace of the design work for their joint production of the Multi-role Transport Airplanes (MTAs).

UAC chief Yuri Slyusar also said India has agreed to install the Russian PS-90 engines on the MTAs which the two countries are jointly developing. State-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) is UAC’s Indian partner on this long-delayed project.

Foo Fighters cancels Glastonbury gig post Grohl’s accident

Rock band Foo Fighters has cancelled its headline slot at this year’s Glastonbury festival, four days after frontman David Grohl fractured his leg due to an on-stage mishap.

Grohl, 46, who fell off stage at a concert in Sweden, underwent a surgery on Monday.

Dates in Belgium, Edinburgh and London’s Wembley Stadium have also been cancelled, reported BBC.

A Goa court has sought report from jail authorities here over allegations that VIP treatment was being given to former minister Fransisco Miccky Pacheco who is currently undergoing sentence at the Sada sub-jail for assaulting a junior engineer from the electricity department.
