Israel restricts access to Al-Aqsa mosque

Jerusalem, March 31: Israel on Monday curbed travel from the West Bank and access to Jerusalem’s flashpoint Al-Aqsa mosque compound as Jews began to celebrate Passover holidays amid raised tension with the Palestinians.

Four Israeli rightwing activists were briefly detained when they tried to make their way to the Old City in annexed east Jerusalem with two goats intended for ritual slaughter, police said.

Hyderabad, March 31: It was noticed in Old City and Musheerabad area that the police officials had failed to respond the emerging situations, especially the communal violence which the State capital has been witnessing for the last three days.

Hyderabad, March 31: Tennis star Sania Mirza remarked that her wedding with Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik should be looked at as a simple wedding like that of any other Indian girl and that she is not trying to make any statement on India-Pakistan relations through it.

Speaking to the media late on Tuesday evening at her residence, Sania said that the wedding-cum-receptionwould be held in Hyderabad on April 15 and she was delighted at the whole idea. “There is mutual admiration and more importantly the two families are really happy at it,” she added.

Curfew cripples life in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, March 31 (Siasat News): The badly affected were the daily wage earners. Petty vendors who plied trade on the Patherghatti footpaths and the auto rickshaw drivers couldn’t operate. Construction labour from neighbouring Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar districts were seen pleading with police to allow them to move out of the curfew areas.

Tension in Musheerabad, Old City remain peaceful

Hyderabad, March 30: Violence broke out in Musheerabad area of Hyderabad when a group of people took out rally on the occasion of Hanuman jayanthi, started pelting stones. Several people reported injured and vehicles were also damaged.

But the situation in riot-hit old city of Hyderabad on Tuesday remained peaceful even as the indefinite curfew imposed on Monday night continued, police said.

Kuwait’s jealous wife face Death sentence

Kuwait City, March 30: A court on Tuesday sentenced a Kuwaiti woman to death for starting a fire that killed 57 women and children at the wedding party of her husband who married another wife.

Judge Adel al-Sager read out the verdict against Nasra Yussef Mohammed al-Enezi, 23, at the court of first instance. The sentence will have to be upheld by the appeals court.

The woman was found guilty of “premeditated murder and starting a fire with the intent to kill.”

The Aug. 15 inferno engulfed the women-and-children-only tent in minutes and triggered a stampede.

UN passes Islamophobia resolution

Geneva, March 26: The U.N. Human Rights Council on Thursday narrowly passed a resolution condemning Islamaphobic behavior, including Switzerland’s minaret building ban, despite some states’ major reservations.

The resolution, which was criticized by the United States as “an instrument of division,” “strongly condemns… the ban on the construction of minarets of mosques and other recent discriminatory measures.”

In a November referendum Swiss citizens voted to ban the construction of new minarets, a move that drew criticisms worldwide.

Drink Alcohol, face lash: Sudan’s President

Khartoum, March 26: Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir warned on Thursday that making, selling or consuming alcoholic drinks will be punishable by the lash under the country’s Islamic laws.

“Whoever makes, drinks or sells alcoholic drinks in Khartoum will be whipped, regardless of what the United Nations or human rights groups have to say about it,” said Bashir, who is seeking re-election next month.

Osama issues fresh threats to US

Dubai, March 25: Osama bin Laden today warned that al-Qaeda will kill American soldiers if the self-confessed mastermind of the 9/11 attacks Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is executed.

“The day America will take such decision [to execute Khalid Mohamed and any others] it would have taken a decision to execute whoever we capture,” Bin Laden said in the latest audio record, broadcast on Al-Jazeera.

He also said that US president Barack Obama was “following the footsteps of his predecessor”, a reference to George Bush, the former US president.

2 lakh kids at risk, poor TB drug

New Delhi, March 24: The Lives of almost two lakh children registered under the directly observed treatment, short course (DOTS) programme for tuberculosis in the country might be in danger.

The Union health ministry has withdrawn the stock of the drug being used under the revised national tuberculosis control programme (RNTCP) since 2007 after an Indore-based laboratory found it was “not of standard quality”. But what is worrying is that 90 per cent of the stock in the Capital has already been distributed to children.

DAD leaves baby in oven overnight

Marijuana, March 17: A Kentucky man high on marijuana and drunk on whiskey put his 5-week-old son in the oven Sunday and left him there overnight, police said.

The oven door was slightly ajar, and the oven was not turned on.

After smoking marijuana at the restaurant where he works as a cook, Larry Long, 33, returned home to share a fifth of whiskey with the baby’s mother, Brandy Hatton, McCracken County Sheriff Jon Hayden said in a statement.

Hatton had four or five shots and went to bed while Long finished the bottle, Hayden said.

Muslim girls 10, 11 separeted from husbands

Kuala Lumpur, March 17: Two Malaysian girls aged 10 and 11 who were wed to middle-aged men have been separated from their husbands as their cases are investigated, religious officials said Monday.

The girls were married off last month by their fathers, who said they were following religious edicts, said deputy head of northern Kelantan state’s religious department Mohamad Abdul Aziz Mohammad Noor.

7th century Arab palace identified in Israel

Occupied Jerusalem, March 17: Ruins in northern Israel previously thought to have been a synagogue have now been identified as a 7th century palace used by the Umayyad caliph who started construction of Jerusalem’s Dome of the Rock, archaeologists said on Tuesday.

The site on the shores of the Sea of Galilee is that of the al-Sinnabra palace, which was described by early Arab historians but whose precise location had long been unknown, according to Tel Aviv University, whose Institute of Archaeology led the recent excavations.
