Student held for cheating through Whatsapp

One student was today arrested for transmitting questions via Whatsapp during an UGC Net 2015 examination, police said.

Rimon Hassan of Natun Beliashampur of Bhagwabgola in Murshidabad district was caught allegedly while transmitting photographs of questions from the examination hall of a school in central Kolkata during third paper of the UGC Net, they said.

Principal Sraboni Samanta of Abhinav Bharati High School, which was the exam venue, lodged a complaint with the Shakespeare Sarani Police Station against Hassan, acting on which police arrested the youth, police added.

Punjab team starts rescue operations in Uttarakhand

A special team deputed by Punjab government for the evacuation of pilgrims stranded at Gobind Ghat and Gobind Dham due to heavy rains in Uttarakhand has started rescue operations.

The incharge of the team, A S Miglani, said the team was in touch with pilgrims at Gurdwara Sahib in Joshimath.

He said the bridge between the Gobind Ghat and Gobind Dham which had been washed away due to heavy rains has been repaired by the local army and the pilgrims have been brought back safely to Gobind Ghat.

Liquor store owner shot at by gangsters; one arrested

A liquor store owner here has been shot at allegedly by a gangster, injuring him seriously, police said today.

The gangster, identified as one Raj Bahadur, along with another gangster Karan Gujjar, had fired a shot late last night on Krishan Kumar, who runs a liquor enclosure at Azad Chowk and is a resident of Mohalla Khasapura in Rewari, area SHO said.

While Krishan was subsequently admitted to a private hospital at Gurgaon, a case under attempt to murder and the Arms Act has been registered against the duo.

Raj is being interrogated by the police, the SHO said.

Centre to bring Skill University Bill: Rudy

The Centre is planning to bring a legislation on setting up of Skill Development University in the country, during the upcoming session of Parliament, Union Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy said here today.

“We have decided that in the upcoming Parliament session we will bring out a Skill University Bill. If this legislation passes in the Parliament, then Centre wants Skill University to be set up in states including Bihar, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh besides couple of more states,” Rudy told reporters.

51 rape cases in Ghaziabad in 5 months

As many as 51 cases of rape and 208 cases of harassment have been registered in the district till May this year.

According to district police data, as many as 51 rape cases have been registered in various parts of the district. Cases of harassment against woman stood at 208 till May 31, 2015, they said.

Twelve cases of chain-snatching were also reported during this period, they added.

Six Nigerians have been arrested by the city police for allegedly cheating several people by luring them with throwaway price offers of expensive cars and mobiles phones through online ads.

“We have arrested six Nigerians for cheating people. They used to lure people to buy expensive cars and mobile phones at a throwaway prices via placing ads on OLX and Quikr.Com,” Police Commissioner M N Reddi told reporters here today.

India to set up Malviya Commonwealth Chair for education

India will set up the Malviya Commonwealth Chair for cross border teacher education that will focus on curriculum development, student assessment, pre-service and in-service teacher training.

The announcement in this regard was made by Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani at the 19th Conference of the Commonwealth Education Ministers held at Nassau, the Bahamas from June 22 to 26.

The conference which deliberated upon Quality Education for Equitable Development was attended by the education ministers of 38 Commonwealth countries.

Egypt’s Sisi receives credentials of Indian Ambassador

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi today received the credentials of Indian Ambassador Sanjay Bhattacharyya and 10 other new envoys.

The new ambassadors include those of Zambia, Ukraine, Cyprus, Brazil, Colombia, Australia, Vatican, Pakistan, Panama and Brunei, according to the Presidential spokesperson Alaa Youssef.

The President welcomed the ambassadors and said that Egypt is keen on enhancing the bilateral relationships with their countries, Youssef said.

SpaceX rocket explodes after launch

An unmanned SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket exploded minutes after liftoff from Cape Canaveral, Florida, following what was meant to be a routine cargo mission to the International Space Station.

“The vehicle has broken up,” said NASA commentator George Diller, after NASA television broadcast images of the white rocket falling to pieces.

“At this point it is not clear to the launch team exactly what happened.”

Journalist attacked for objecting to dumping of waste

A journalist was seriously injured in an attack by about half-a-dozen persons in Anand Puri Colony in Krishna Nagar area, police said today.

The incident took place yesterday evening when Arun Chaturvedi, who edits a Hindi weekly, objected to dumping of waste on roadside.

He was attacked with spade and iron rod allegedly by dairy farm owner Madan and his four brothers.

He was rushed to the district hospital in an unconscious state. Later, he was referred to S N Medical College in Agra, police said.

Dog’s photo on ITI entrance admit card

An ITI aspirant was in for a shock when he found a photo of a dog on his admit card. Soumyadip Mahato (18) downloaded the admit card for the ITI entrance exam from the official website to find the dog’s photo on it with his address and other details yesterday.

Mahato, who passed higher secondary examination this year, soon contacted the nodal officer for conducting the examinations in the area and was assured of assistance.

Later in the evening the dog’s photo was removed from his admit card.

129 people fined for urinating publicly in Agra

In a first amidst the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’, 129 people have been fined in the last three days for allegedly urinating in public in the city of Taj.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) officers caught 129 people for publicly urinating and slapped them with fines ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 500, officials said.

GRP officers targeted regions like the Agra Cantt railway station, Agra Fort, Raja ki Mandi, Mathura, Idgah, Tundla and 12 other stations in the division.

The campaign will continue as part of the ‘Swachch Bharat Mission’, Gopoesh Nath Khanna, SP railways, said.

Suburban train rams into dead end at Churchgate; woman hurt

A local train today rammed into the dead end at Churchgate railway station here, leaving a woman seriously injured and disrupting suburban train services on the Western line.

The fast train coming from Bhayander rammed into the dead end on platform no.3 of Churchgate station at around 11.25 AM when the motorman could not stop the local.

As a result, the first coach of the train jumped onto the south-end concourse of the platform and was seen lying in a tilted position.

The reason for the motorman not being able to halt the train was yet to be ascertained.

2 Indians among 26 killed in suicide attack in Kuwait mosque

Two Indians were among 26 people killed in a ISIS suicide attack at a mosque here, according to Indian Embassy, which asked the Indian nationals to take precautions for their safety and security in Kuwait.

“The Embassy regrets to inform about the death of two Indian nationals in the bomb blast at Imam Sadiq Mosque in Kuwait on June 26,” the Indian mission said in a statement.

Both the victims – Rizwan Husain (31) and Ibne Abbas (25)- were taking part in the prayers when they died, it said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday laid stress on the need for second Green Revolution in the country.
“There is an immediate need of Green Revolution in the country. The Green Revolution should immediately start in eastern India including Jharkhand, Bihar, eastern Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha and Assam,” said Modi.

The prime minister was addressing the people at Barhi in Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand after laying the foundation stone of the Indian Agriculture Research Institute (IARI).
