Medical condition of recaptured US convict upgraded
An escaped killer who spent three weeks on the run was in stable medical condition Monday, a day after he was shot and recaptured in New York state, officials said.
David Sweat, 35, was shot twice in the torso by a state trooper just south of the Canadian border on Sunday.
He was transported to a hospital in the state capital Albany, where he was initially listed in critical condition.
Albany Medical Center medical director Dennis McKenna said doctors evaluated Sweat and determined he did not need surgery.
