Tamil exhibitors decision to shut down theatres Tuesday in solidarity with former Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalitha, who was jailed Saturday for corruption, will affect the box-office prospects of “Jeeva” and “Madras”, say trade experts.

Tamil Film Exhibitors Association have decided to keep a fast Tuesday and cancel shows in all theatres across the state.

Over 200 held for Vadodara riots, no fresh flare up

Over 200 people have been arrested in Vadodara town in Gujarat after days of communal violence though no fresh incident was reported today, police said.

However, the situation in the city, 116 km from Ahmedabad, remained tense amid huge deployment of police personnel.

Communal violence had erupted in Yakutpura, Panjrapole, Fatehpura and Kumbharvada in the city on Thursday after some posts about a religion, purportedly derogatory in nature, were put up on a social networking site.

A young woman was charged by the Thane police for allegedly abandoning her new born child at a city hospital.

The 21-year-old woman Savita Jadhav allegedly abandoned her new born girl at a hospital in Kalwa on September 21 and a manhunt has been launched to nab her, API Sandeep B Bagul of Kalwa police station said.

The woman left the hospital without informing anyone, leaving her child in the hospital itself, he said.

The child is presently in the custody of hospital staff and they are taking care of the child, the officer added.

Amid weakening stocks, the combined market valuation of top five Sensex companies fell by Rs. 45,887.6 crore last week, with RIL and ICICI Bank taking the biggest hit.

While TCS, RIL, Infosys, SBI and ICICI Bank saw losses in their market capitalisation (m-cap), ONGC, ITC, CIL, HDFC Bank and Sun Pharma witnessed addition.

The m-cap of RIL plunged Rs. 19,728.88 crore to Rs. 3,01,948.82 crore. ICICI Bank suffered a loss of Rs. 10,682.94 crore to Rs. 1,71,031.83 crore, while the value of SBI dipped by Rs. 9,376.96 crore to Rs. 1,82,380.34 crore.
