Troubled actress Amanda Bynes plans to study psychology at a university here.

She had joined the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in California last year after finishing a rehabilitation stint in December 2013, but was reportedly kicked out of the school last month.

The actress was spotted here recently and she returned to Twitter.com Tuesday after a five-month absence to tell fans she is checking out universities here, reports contactmusic.com.

Actress Aishwarya Rajesh, who has so far donned rural roles in her career in films such as “Rummy” and “Pannaiyarum Padminiyum”, has donned her first urban character in forthcoming Tamil crime-comedy “Thirudan Police”.

“I’m playing my first urban character in ‘Thirudan Police’. It’s an important film because I’ll be breaking the stereotype that I’m only fit for rural characters with this role,” Aishwarya told IANS.

“I’m not playing a glamorous role. It’s a city-based character with make-up and styling. It’s a fresh makeover from the usual roles I’ve played till now,” she said.

Yogurt containing probiotic bacteria may protect children and pregnant women against heavy metal exposure, says a study.

The researchers found a significant protective effect of the probiotic against mercury and arsenic in pregnant women.

This is important as “reduction in these compounds in the mothers could presumably decrease negative developmental effects in their foetus and newborns”, according to lead researcher Gregor Reid from the Canadian Centre for Human Microbiome and Probiotics.

Amid escalation of ceasefire violations along the Line of Control, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki moon has asked India and Pakistan to resolve their issues diplomatically and through dialogue.

“The Secretary-General would call on both countries to resolve their issues diplomatically and through discussions,” Ban’s spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told reporters yesterday in response to a question on whether the UN chief can play a role in bringing about peace between the two countries.

Trooper kills three at Kalpakkam Nuclear complex

A trooper gunned down three security personnel and injured two at the Kalpakkam nuclear complex following an altercation Wednesday morning, an official said.

“There was an altercation between some security personnel posted at the Kalpakkam nuclear complex.

“One of them started shooting the others. Three persons died on the spot while two got injured. One of the injured is in a serious condition,” an official of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd told IANS, preferring anonymity.

Ingredients

1. Boiled potato- 3 nos.
2. Sainda namak- to taste
3. Coriander chopped- 10 gms
4. Chilli chopped- 10 gms
5. Anar – 15 gms

Method:

1. Grate the potatoes and mix all other ingredients in it.
2. Season it and make the into round tikki shape.

1. Take a hot wax heater and heat the wax till it melts.
2. Apply talcum powder on the body part which needs to be waxed.
3. Use a spatula to apply warm wax on that area.
4. Place wax strip on it.
5. Pull the wax strip in the opposite direction of hair growth.
6. To minimise discomfort, use hand pressure on the waxed area after the strip has been removed.

Energy drinks may ruin your sleep

Although energy drinks may enhance athlete’s performance, they also cause insomnia and nervousness, a study said.

The study carried out by experts from the Camilo Jose Cela University (UCJC), Spain evaluated the positive and negative effects of energy drinks on athletes.

“Athletes felt they had more strength, power and resistance with the energy drink than with the placebo drink,” said Juan Del Coso Garrigas, in-charge of the Exercise Physiology Laboratory at UCJC.

Actress Shruti Haasan, who has been away from Tamil filmdom for nearly two years, thanked actor Vishal Krishna Reddy for giving her a chance to work in Tamil again in the upcoming film “Poojai”.

Shruti was last seen in 2012 Tamil films “3” and “7am Arivu”. Both films didn’t do well at the box office.

Alcohol increases risk of HPV infection in men

Men, who consume alcohol have a greater risk of contracting human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, a study said.

HPV is a common sexually transmitted virus, with over six million new cases reported in the US each year.

Men, who consumed on an average over 9.9 grams of alcohol per day, had a significantly higher risk of HPV infection, the findings showed.

Men, who drank more alcohol, had an increased risk of HPV infection, independent of the number of sexual partners they had.

Mount Sinabung volcano erupts in Indonesia

Mount Sinabung volcano in North Sumatra in Indonesia erupted Sunday, sending columns of ash up to 3,000 meters to the sky, an official said.

But the eruption did not trigger evacuation.

The volcano has erupted four times since earlier Sunday, Sutopo Purno Nugroho, spokesman of the national disaster management agency, told Xinhua over phone.

Hot ash and gravel spewed into the sky, all sliding to the south, said Sutopo.

Mount Sinabung last erupted in June and September. An earlier eruption left 15 people dead and more than 30,000 others displaced.

This Bakrid, goats and sheep are being sold online via shopping portals like Quikr and Olx. The traders have gone hitech and animals are sold for anything between Rs 10,000 and Rs 3 lakh online.

Alibaba.com was among the first internet traders to offer “High Quality Live Sheep”. Various types of goat and sheep are put on the online block by the traders.

India should aim $40bn gold jewellery exports by 2020: WGC

AdTechIndia, the world’s largest gold consumer, should target five-folds increase in gold jewellery exports to USD 40 billion by 2020 from the current level of USD 8 billion, according to the World Gold Council (WGC).

The country should also put to use about 22,000 tonnes of gold lying idle with households and temples and reduce its dependence on imports in the next five years, it said.

Besides, it should aim creation of 5 million new jobs across the gold value chain ? manufacturing, retailing, assaying and recycling areas, it added.

Asserting that it was not to blame for the snapping of a 15-year-old alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), the Congress party’s state unit president Manikrao Thakre said on Saturday that the party’s cadre were happy with the break-up as they now get to contest all the 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra.

“There is no truth in the NCP charge that we are responsible for the break-up. We had submitted the list of 29 constituencies from our quota, from which NCP had to choose six. But they rejected our offer,” Thakre said during a media interaction.

Cipla signs agreement to set up a manufacturing unit in Iran

Drug major Cipla has signed an agreement with its Iranian distributor for setting up a manufacturing unit in that country.

“The company has signed a definitive agreement with its existing Iranian distributor for setting up a manufacturing facility in Iran,” Cipla said in a filing to BSE.

Total contribution from the Indian company over the next 3 years will include machinery, equipment, technical know-how and is expected to be around Rs 225 crore for a 75 per cent stake, it added.
