JK Rowling’s next ‘Harry Potter’ is a wizard named ‘Newt Scamander’

JK Rowling has recently revealed that she is writing a screenplay for a film that is an extension of the wizard world novels she has written earlier.

On Oct 6, the author posted an anagram, “Cry, foe! Run amok! Fa awry! My wand won’t tolerate this non-sense” on twitter for her fans to interpret, she found a winner who rightly found the meaning that was “Newt Scamander only meant to stay in New York for a few hours” after which she declared the news, BBC reported.

Newt Scamander was the fictional author of a textbook on magical animals that featured in the Harry Potter novels.

40,000 year old paintings excavated in Asia may rewrite history of art

A recent excavation project disclosed that art may not have originated in Europe but also along the Indonesian island of Sulawesi.

Dr Maxime Aubert, of Griffith University in Queensland, Australia, dated the paintings found in Maros in Southern Sulawesi, as probably the earliest of its type, the BBC reported.

Australian and Indonesian scientists have dated layers of stalactite-like growths that have formed over colored outlines of human hands.

A figurative depiction of a pig in Sulawesi cave maybe one of the oldest, nearly 35,400 years old.

Madras High Court refuses to stay single judge order for CBI probe

The Madras High Court today refused to stay a single judge’s order for a CBI probe into the alleged custodial torture of a woman by police personnel at Udumalpet station in Tirupur district and wondered how the state could appeal against such cases directing the CBI Joint Director to continue investigation.

A division bench, comprising Justices Sathish K Agnihotri and K K Sasidharan, stated this today while declining to stay the order of Justice V Ramasubramanian who ordered a CBI inquiry into the alleged custodial torture of the woman.

The study, published in the journal BMJ Open, examined 1,200 Danish male military recruits between the ages of 18 and 28 years, all of whom underwent a medical examination between 2008 and 2012.

As part of the assessment they were asked about their drinking habits and invited to provide sperm and blood samples.

Govt notifies New Urea Investment Policy

In order to increase domestic urea production, the Fertilizer Ministry has notified New Urea Investment Policy for setting up and expansion of urea plants.

According to the policy, interested private companies are required to give a bank guarantee of Rs 300 crore for every project, while PSUs firms have been exempted from it.

The companies will get a subsidy on production only if the urea production starts in the next 5 years. The subsidy will continue till 8 years after the commencement of production.

J-K floods: IAF contributes Rs 8.43 crore to PM’s relief fund

After having rescued over 5,000 people in flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Air Force today contributed for the rehabilitation of the people in the state by donating Rs 8.43 crore in the Prime Minister’s relief fund.

The amount was collected by IAF through donation of a day’s salary by its over 1.7 lakh officers and men deployed across the country.

A cheque of Rs 8.43 crore was handed over by IAF Chief Arup Raha to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the ‘At Home’ function here on the occasion of 82nd Air Force Day.

Rupee jumps 31 paise to 61.09 against US dollar

Extending its rising streak for the fourth straight day, the rupee surged by 31 paise to trade at two-week high of 61.09 against the dollar in early trade on Thursday at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on sustained selling of the US currency by exporters and banks.

Forex dealers said besides selling of the American unit by exporters and easing global crude prices, gains in other Asian currencies against the dollar and a higher opening in the domestic stock market, buoyed the sentiment.

Diesel prices likely to be cut by Rs 2.50 per litre after assembly polls

A Rs 2.50 per litre cut in diesel prices and a little less than Re 1 a litre on petrol is in offing as international oil rates fell to a 27-month low.

Prices may be cut after Maharashtra and Haryana assembly elections are completed on October 15, sources privy to the development said.

Benchmark Brent crude slid by as much as USD 1.35 to USD 90.76 a barrel, its lowest level since June 2012. Prices have declined 18 percent this year.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Barack Obama will discuss the fight against terrorism and cooperation against militants of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group at a summit in Beijing on November 12, the South China Morning Post reported on Wednesday.

Beijing and Washington are expected to set aside their differences to work towards greater cooperation in the exchange of information and to block financing and arms supplies to the IS, which controls large parts of Syria and Iraq, the daily said, citing analysts.

London-based millionaire pays Rs 1 cr to get rivals killed in Andhra

The Delhi Police have cracked an international murder plot that involved a London-based millionaire.

As per reports, the millionaire – Butham Govindu – paid contract killers from Delhi Rs 1 crore to eliminate a 70-year-old businessman and his two sons in Vijaywada.

The murders were executed last month, Delhi Police officials said.

As per police, the murders were part of a long-running war of honour between two feuding families.

The police said it has arrested seven persons, including four Delhi-based contract killers, in connection with the case.

Woman killed as Pakistan intensifies shelling

A woman was killed and 11 persons were injured as Pakistani troops targeted 50 security outposts and three dozen hamlets with heavy mortar shelling and firing overnight along the entire 192-km international border in Jammu and Kashmir.

Extending the ceasefire violations to new areas, Pakistan Rangers shelled border outposts (BoPs) and villages in Samba and Kathua along with Jammu during the night and the firing was continuing till this morning.
