India Inc’s foreign investment doubles to $3.02 bn in Sep

India Inc’s overseas direct investment in September 2014 more than doubled from a year ago period to USD 3.02 billion, the Reserve Bank data showed.

Total investment abroad by Indian firms were at USD 1.43 billion in September 2013.

In the previous month August, the Indian companies had undertaken investments of USD 1.25 billion in overseas markets.

The investments were a mix of issuance of guarantees (USD 2.53 billion), loan (USD 257.60 million) and of equity (USD 232.59 million).

Google receives more than 144,000 ‘right to be forgotten’ requests

Google in its latest Transparency report revealed that it received more than 144,000 ‘right to be forgotten’ request since the process began on May 29 in Europe.

Those requests themselves encompass 497,507 different webpages. Among the nearly 500,000 page links requested to be taken down, the company has so far removed 170,506 (41.8 percent) and declined to remove 237,561 (58.2 percent).

A new study has found that daily consumption of fruit juice can actually prove dangerous for the heart.

According to study’s lead author, Dr Matthew Pase, from the Swinburne University of Technology, Australia, the sweet drinks could significantly increase the central blood pressure of the people who have it on daily basis than the ones who have it occasionally, which could heighten the risk of heart attack or angina and cognitive impairment, the Daily Express reported.

Man-eater tiger kills 10-yr-old in UP

A 10-year-old boy was killed by a man-eater tiger in the fields of village Baheri on the border of Vijay Singhpur forest range here, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place last evening when the boy was playing near his house in Barhapur area and the tiger attacked him, said J P Singh, SHO, Barhapur.

Hearing the screams, his father and other villagers attacked the tiger with sticks after which the animal left the boy and fled in the forest area, he said.

However, the boy died due to severe bleeding, Singh said.

Cycling could grow third testicle for men, one for women

A team of South African scientists has claimed that cycling could lead to a third ‘testicle’ for men and one for women.

According to a new report by scientists, they have dubbed a nodule that develops from the friction of rubbing against the bike saddle a ‘testicle’, the Mirror reported.

The study claims that repeated vibration and friction between the lowest pelvis bones, tissue under the bottom’s skin and the hard bike saddles causes the lump.

Emirates Airlines CEO Tim Clark believes that missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 may not have crashed in the Indian Ocean and said that he was ‘totally dissatisfied’ with the investigation.

Clark said in an interview that the investigation so far raises a lot of questions and suspicion, reported Daily Express.

He also believes that someone took control of the plane and maintained it till the end.

Clark said that the missing flight MH370 remains a great aviation mystery and that everyone would keep it at that and move on.

Delhi-Agra semi-high speed train to be named Gatimaan Express

The semi-high speed train that proposes to reduce travelling time between Delhi and Agra to 105 minutes will be named Gatimaan Express and will have LCD TVs installed behind each seat and emergency braking system.

To be flagged off from New Delhi station next month, the train’s name has been chosen because of its capability of running at 160 km per hour speed, the maximum till date in Indian Railways, a senior Railway Ministry official said.

RNA molecules in urine can detect prostate cancer

Scientists have revealed that they have identified a set of RNA molecules that are detectable in tissue samples and urine of prostate cancer patients but not in normal healthy individuals.

According to the researchers at Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute, their study sets the stage for the development of more sensitive and specific noninvasive tests for prostate cancer than those currently available, which could result in fewer unnecessary prostate biopsies with less treatment-related morbidity.

Hrithik Roshan-starrer “Bang Bang”, which has raked in over Rs.4 crore within the first week of its release in Kerala, has become the most successful Hindi film in the state.

A delighted Hrithik thanked audiences for the overwhelming response.

“I’m overwhelmed with the response to my film in Kerala. Thank you showing your love and making my film successful,” Hrithik said in a video, available on online video-sharing platform YouTube.

“‘Bang Bang’ is the most successful Hindi movie in the history in Kerala with a record collection of Rs.4 crore in a week,” read a statement.

2,000 conveyance deeds issued at DDA leasehold conversion camps

DDA has so far issued 2,000 conveyance deeds within the time fixed for the same under the Citizen Charter as part of its drive for people to get their properties converted from leasehold to freehold.

Around 3,800 applications for conversion were received during the 100 days, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has said.

Apart from these, special camps were organised at Nagarik Suvidha Kendras and more than 6,000 pending applications for conversion were also disposed off.

Filmmaker S.D. Vijay Milton has roped in actress Charmme for an item number in his upcoming Tamil film “10 Enrathukulla” as he finds her to be a wonderful dancer, who can add “life” to a song.

Charmme has earlier performed special dance numbers in films such as “Damarukkam”, “Naayak” and “R…Rajkumar”.

“I’ve seen Charmme perform in some of the songs. I really think she’s a wonderful dancer who can add life to any song with her moves. That’s precisely why I approached her for a special song in my film,” Milton told IANS.

Milton will shoot the song soon in a lavish set in Pune.

Canada’s new High Commissioner to India Nadir Patel is an Indo-Canadian, one who was born in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state of Gujarat and speaks Gujarati at home.

Patel is barely 44. His appointment was announced Friday by Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird and International Trade Minister Ed Fast.

‘Gabbar Singh 2’ shooting to start from November

The sequel to Telugu blockbuster “Gabbar Singh” is likely to go on the floors from November, reveals director Sampath Nandi, who says that actor Pawan Kalyan doesn’t want to delay the project anymore.

“The project was supposed to have started a while ago, but since Pawan sir was busy with other engagements, it had to be delayed. He recently informed the team that he wants to start working on the sequel from next month (November),” Nandi told IANS.

Pawan is currently shooting for Telugu comedy “Gopala Gopala”, a remake of Hindi film “OMG: Oh My God!”.

2 members of cult sentenced to death for murder in China

A Chinese court today sentenced two persons to death and another to life imprisonment for killing a woman at a McDonalds outlet when she refused to join a Christian doomsday cult.

Cult members Zhang Fan and Zhang Lidong, who confessed their role in beating the woman to death in May in Zhaoyuan City, were sent to gallows by Shandong’s Yantai Intermediate People’s Court, state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.

The court sentenced their accomplice, Lyu Yingchun, to life while two others Zhang Hang and Zhang Qiaolian to seven years of jail terms respectively.

Smartphone App for the Visually Impaired Launched

An application equipped with Braille typing feature that promises to assist the visually-impaired in using all features of a smartphone was launched here Thursday on World Sight Day.

SimplEye, a custom-designed application developed by Kriyate, a Delhi-based enterprise, is available for all android-based devices and was launched by Minister of State for Rural Development Upendra Kushwaha at the Jawaharlal Nehru University here.

It can be downloaded for free from Google play store.

India joins 5-nation project to build world’s biggest telescope

As a follow up to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s US visit, India has joined the US and three other countries in a $1.47 billion project to build the world’s biggest telescope on Hawaii Island.

An Indian delegation participated in the groundbreaking ceremony of the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) Consortium Project at Mauna Kea, Hawaii, on Oct 7 along with about 100 astronomers and officials from the US, Japan, China and Canada. The TMT will enable scientists to study fainter objects far away from earth providing information about early stages of the evolution of the universe.

Hinduism meant for the world, not fiefdom of Hindus: Bhagwat

RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat today said people of India have not treated Hinduism as their fiefdom but as their heritage meant for the world and there is a greater need for people in the country to have knowledge of its roots than those abroad.

Speaking at a function for the launch of the international edition of “Encyclopaedia of Hinduism” at Vigyan Bhawan here, he said it is important to give information to children about their roots as this is currently missing from their education and learning system.
