Ram Charan donates Rs. 15 lakhs to ‘Hudhud’ victims

Actor Ram Charan Tuesday announced he will donate Rs.15 lakh for the victims of cyclone ‘Hudhud’ in Vishakhapatnam. He has also urged his fans to join him in this endeavour to reach out to as many people as possible.

“I declare Rs.10 lakh towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the victims of the cyclone and Rs.5 lakh towards Ramakrishna Mission. I request all my fans to extend their support to the people of Vishakhapatnam,” Ram Charan told reporters here.

UN Ignores Pakistan’s Bid to Seek Intervention on Kashmir

Pakistan’s latest efforts seeking UN intervention on the Kashmir issue have failed to draw any new response from the world body which reiterated that India and Pakistan need to resolve all differences through dialogue to find a long-term solution to the dispute.

Sartaj Aziz, adviser to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on national security and foreign affairs, had written to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on the recent border tension with India and sought the UN’s intervention, stepping up its attempts to internationalise the Kashmir issue.

Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has said he favours raising the age for marriage to 25 for both men and women, as prescribed by the “Ashrama system” in Hindu philosophy. This would ensure good health and address malnutrition, he said.

The legal age for marriage in India is 21 years for men and 18 years for women.

“I believe marriage age for both boy and girl should be raised to 25 in accordance with the age-old tradition of Ashrama system,” Mr Manjhi told reporters on the sidelines of his Janata Darbar programme, started by his predecessor Nitish Kumar.

Sufficient fuel stock available in Vizag: Oil companies

There is an adequate stock of more than 15 days of fuel, petrol and diesel, available in the port city, a state oil industry official said today.

He also appealed to the public not to panic and requested to buy fuel only in required quantities and not store for future consumption.

“Oil companies are putting their best efforts to revive the damaged petrol pumps on war-footing,” according to a state-level coordinating official for the oil industry.

Dissolve NCR planning board if useless: Delhi HC tells government

If the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) was unable to fulfil its functions and purpose, the central government should dissolve it and take over its functions to ensure compliance of the Regional Plan, the Delhi High Court has said.

A division bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw asked the central government to ensure that the purpose for which the NCRPB was created is fulfilled in letter and spirit by ensuring the developments in the respective sub-regions of the NCR are in accordance with the Regional Plan.

Navy suffered Rs 2,000 crore loss in Visakhapatnam due to cyclone Hudhud: Chandrababu Naidu

The Indian Navy has suffered a loss of Rs.2,000 crore due to the severe cyclonic storm Hudhud, which wreaked havoc on Andhra coast Sunday, said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Naidu on Tuesday told reporters that the cyclone has caused huge losses to various institutions in the city.

Eastern Naval Command, which has its headquarters here, suffered massive damage to its facility on the coast.

Naidu, however, lamented that the navy has not come forward for rescue and relief work in the city.

Man disabled in road accident gets over Rs 13 lakhs compensation

A 44-year-old man, who suffered 50% permanent disability in his leg in an accident involving a rashly driven car, has been awarded a compensation of over Rs 13 lakh by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal in New Delhi.

The tribunal directed the Oriental Insurance Company Ltd, insurer of the offending car, to pay a compensation of Rs 13,96,368 to south Delhi resident Kalyan Singh Bisht whose leg got crushed in the accident in 2011.

The tribunal, while awarding the compensation, relied on the testimony of the victim and his friend, who too suffered injuries in the accident.

Tata Motors bags orders for 928 buses under JnNURM scheme in South India

Tata Motors on Tuesday said it has received another order to supply 928 Tata Marcopolo built buses to the State Transport Authorities in South India.

The order comprises 487 units bagged from Karnataka (Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation), 40 units from Puducherry (Pondicherry Road Transport Corporation), 97 from Kerala (Kerala State Road Transport Corporation) and 304 from North East Karnataka region (North Eastern Karnataka Road Transport Corporation), Tata Motors said in a press release.

First CBI probe into Aarushi murder case had loopholes, claims ex-director Arun Kumar

There were “lacunae” and “loopholes” in the probe of the Aarushi-Hemraj murders by the first team of CBI under its then Joint Director Arun Kumar, former CBI Director AP Singh has said.

In a condolence message following the demise of AGL Kaul, the CBI investigator who subsequently probed the case, Singh said the officer was convinced that it was Aarushi’s parents — Rajesh and Nupur Talwar — who were responsible for the double murder.

Situation in Jammu and Kashmir not conducive to Assembly polls: Omar Abdullah

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said situation in the state was not conducive for holding Assembly elections due to the recent floods.

Talking to reporters after meeting Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Omar said while the state government has the capability to hold the elections, a distinction should be made whether it is the opportune time.

“Range co-ordination and installation of missile and its sub-system is near complete and the test fire may be taken up on Friday if everything goes as scheduled,” said a scientist of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) associated with the project.

Long-lost Brit parrot returns home speaking Spanish!

A grey African parrot, that went missing for four years after flying away from his Californian home, has returned to his British owner, speaking in Spanish.

Julissa Sperling, who owns a dog-grooming business, discovered the parrot Nigel in Torrance and took him in as he matched a missing pet advertisement she had seen, the Daily Express reported.

Sperling said that “the happiest bird,” who was singing and talking without control and barking like the dogs, was saying he is from Panama and was asking “What happened?” in Spanish.

Creamy mayonnaise pasta

Ingredients:

250 gms pasta
1 ½ cup mayonnaise
2 tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
5-6 thinly sliced olive
1 cup chopped green or red capsicum
1/4 cup chopped onion
Oil for cooking

Procedure:

Cook macaroni in water; drain and rinse with cold water until completely cool.
Heat some oil in a pan and add all the cut vegetables. Stir until the vegetables are cooked. Now add mayonnaise, vinegar, sugar and salt. Add the pasta and mix thoroughly.

Chocolate Mint Cookies

Ingredients:

2 large eggs
3/4 cup butter
1 1/2 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons water
Green mint wafers

Procedure:

In a saucepan over low heat, cook butter, sugar and water until butter is melted.

Add chocolate chips and stir until partially melted. Remove from heat and continue to stir until chocolate is completely melted.

Essar Steel’s US arm achieves fin closure for $1.8 bn project

Essar Steel today said its US arm Essar Steel Minnesota (ESML) has achieved financial closure for its USD 1.8 billion iron ore pellet project with an annual production capacity of 7 million tonnes (MT).

The project with a USD 1.8 billion capital investment in the Mesabi Iron Range region of Minnesota is set to commence production of taconite pellets in the second half of 2015.

Regulator Sebi has barred realty major DLF, as also six top executives including Chairman K P Singh, from securities markets for three years, after finding the company guilty of “active and deliberate suppression” of material information at the time of its public offer.

Those prohibited from the markets including Singh’s son Rajiv Singh (Vice Chairman) and daughter Pia Singh (Whole Time Director), Sebi said in its order.

Man kills wife suspecting illicit relationships

A 29-year old woman who was found dead near her house last month was murdered by her husband who suspected her of having extra marital affairs, police said today.

The accused husband Gangaram was arrested today after his involvement came to light, they said.

Body of Sanjana was found near her house on September 27 in Keshyawala village area after which Gangaram lodged an FIR with Muhana police station and misled police.

During investigation, the husband changed his statements so he was interrogated in detail following which he admitted to have killed Sanjana.

Bareilly: Teenage girl raped, set on fire

An 18-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour, who also set her on fire after the crime at Khemunagla village in Faridpur area here, police said.

The incident took place on Monday afternoon when the girl was alone in her home.

According to police, victim’s neighbour, Kantu, not only raped her but also set her on fire.

The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical aid by others.

Victim’s condition is said to be very critical, police added.

Faisal Saif changes title of his film to ‘Main Hoon Rajini’

Director Faisal Saif has renamed his film “Main Hoon Rajinikanth” as “Main Hoon Rajini” following the southern matinee idol’s objection to the use of his name in the title. The filmmaker says he had to take the decision as producer’s money was at stake.

Superstar Rajinikanth had filed an interim injunction on the film’s title and its content after he felt it might defame him and upset his fan base.

Kerala Chalachitra Academy award invite misses recipient’s name

In a faux pas on the part of Kerala Chalachitra Academy, the recipient’s name was missing from the invite for presentation of the state’s top film honour, the J C Daniel award, to eminent writer and film personality M T Vasudevan Nair.

The award presentation ceremony will be held on October 17 at the Kanakakunnu palace here.

The invite had the names of all other dignitaries to be present on the occasion except Nair’s, who was chosen for the award for his outstanding contributions to Malayalam cinema.
