Farah Khan’s multi-starrer directorial “Happy New Year” has been passed with a ‘U’ certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film releases Oct 24.

The team of the film, produced by Shah Rukh’s Red Chillies Entertainments Pvt Ltd, is excited with the news that will make it possible for audiences of all age groups to watch it at theaters.

PIL challenges additional reservations in medical courses

Public Health Organisation, an NGO, has filed a public interest litigation in the Bombay High Court challenging Maharashtra government’s decision to provide 16 percent reservation to Marathas and 5 percent qouta to Muslims in MBBS and post-graduate medical courses.

The PIL, filed by PHO chief I S Gilada, was mentioned before a division bench which had on October 14 allowed the petitioner to carry out certain amendments and clubbed this matter with other petitions challenging the reservations for Marathas and Muslims.

Manglore airport to be shut at night for six months

The night flight operations at the Mangalore International Airport (MIA) would be suspended for six months from November 1 to take up works on the runway end safety area and parallel taxiway.

“There will be no flight operations at MIA between 11.30 PM and 7.30 AM for six months from November 1. Runways and its operations will be closed till April 30 next year. Airlines have rescheduled the flights accordingly,” airport director J T Radhakrishna said.

The night operations would be closed down to take up works on the runway end safety area and parallel taxi way, he said in a release.

Tiger kills leopard in Bhadrawati forest range

A fully grown male adult leopard was killed by a tiger reportedly in a territorial dispute under Bhadrawati forest range.

According to a press release issued here today by the forest department, the incident came to notice when one of the forest guards was on patrol in Kachrala beat under Bhadrawati forest range yesterday at about 4.30 pm.

On noticing the leopard’s dead body in compartment number 204 under the Kachrala beat, pugmarks of a tiger were located around the spot.

It was also observed that the leopard’s body had injuries and deep scars on its back, caused by tiger claws.

Will talk to K’taka CM about attack on NE students: Rajnath

Expressing concern over the assault on three northeastern students in Bangalore, Home Minister Rajnath Singh Thursday said he would take up the issue with the Karnataka government for strict action against the culprits.

President Barack Obama has revealed that his credit card had been declined at a New York restaurant.

The 53-year-old US President told the crowd at the federal Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, that during a UN General Assembly meeting as he had stepped out for a bite at a restaurant, his own credit card had been declined, News.com.au reported.

The bill had to be paid by the First Lady, Michelle Obama, and the President added that the restaurant staff believed that there had been some fraud.

Pistorius’ lawyer reveals SA athlete ‘not only broke but broken’

Paralympic runner Oscar Pistorius’ defence lawyer has revealed to the court that the double amputee athlete has no money left due to the expenses of the sentencing hearing of his murder trial.

Defence lawyer Barry Roux said that Pistorius was both broke and broken after the seven-month trial. The South African athlete was convicted of culpable homicide last month after shooting dead his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp last year on Valentines Day, but was cleared of murder.

Judge Thokozile Masipa is expected to deliver the sentence on Tuesday, The BBC reported.

TCS shares slump over 9% post Q2 results; mcap down Rs 46K cr

Shares of IT bellwether TCS on Friday tumbled over 9 percent, eroding Rs 45,824 crore from its market valuation, after its September quarter numbers failed to meet market expectations.

The scrip of the country’s largest software exporter ended 8.73 percent lower at Rs 2,444.90 on the BSE. In intra-day, it tumbled 9.17 per cent to Rs 2,433.10.

At the NSE, the stock plunged 9.15 per cent to Rs 2,433.

Following the slump in the stock, the company’s market value diminished by Rs 45,823.6 crore to Rs 4,78,889.40 crore.

Indian Engineer in US Gets 18 Months’ Jail for Stealing Secrets

An Indian engineer has been sentenced to 18 months in prison followed by deportation for stealing trade secrets from medical technology giant Becton Dickinson and another New Jersey company.

Ketankumar Maniar, 38, who is also known as Ketan Maniar, had pleaded guilty to two counts of theft and attempted theft of trade secrets in May, according to Northjersey.com.

Maniar, who has been in custody since his June 2013 arrest, was sentenced in federal court in Trenton Thursday. He was also ordered to pay BD restitution of $32,454.

Muzaffarnagar gang rape case: Four persons booked

Four persons have been booked in connection with an alleged gang rape of a 26-year-old girl in Shamli district, police said on Friday.

The incident had taken place two months ago at Jhinjhana town, when the victim was allegedly gang raped by two youths Rashid and Mobin, police said, adding, they were aided by two girls in the crime.

A case was registered against the two accused youths and two women identified as Reshma and Imrana on Thursday under section 376 and 120 B of IPC, they said.

The accused are absconding, they said.
