Current Indian team is better in handling pressure: Sourav Ganguly

Defending Team India’s often-criticised character of crumbling under pressure, former captain Sourav Ganguly said that the current side is better adept in responding to difficult situations than before.

“In 2003, we lost to the best Australian side under Ricky Ponting. But today, the Indian team won’t buckle under pressure,” Ganguly said on Saturday.

Addressing a large gathering, Ganguly remembered the loss against Australia in a one-sided final in 2003, saying it was very difficult to captain the Indian cricket team because of the expectations surrounding the sport in the country.

Tata Motors’ Jaguar Land Rover plans factory in US

Tata Motors’ owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is working on an ambitious plan to set up a factory in the US, in a first for a British carmaker in the world’s second-biggest automobile market.

The West Midlands-based luxury carmaker is reportedly talking to several southern states of America, including South Carolina, about building a plant in the US, The Sunday Times claimed today.

JLR is capitalising on a turnaround in its fortunes after Tata acquired the struggling brand for around 1.3 billion pounds back in 2008.

For first time 13 women set to enter Haryana Assembly

For the first time in Haryana, known for its skewed sex ratio, 13 women will enter the state Assembly out of 116 women candidates who contested the polls.

BJP, which got the majority, has given the maximum eight women candidates to the 90-member Haryana Assembly.

Congress has three women candidates declared as winners while INLD and HJC have one each.

Among the sitting women MLAs who were re-elected include Congress ministers Geeta Bhukkal and Kiran Choudhary, Renuka Bishnoi (HJC-BL), Shakuntla Khatak (Cong) and Kavita Jain (BJP).

A man here allegedly sexually abused a minor baby girl following which police has launched a manhunt today.

The 40-year-old man who allegedly sexually abused a 15-month old girl in Ambernath here is said to be living in the neighbourhood of the victim’s, API S D Jadhav of Shivaji Nagar police station said today.

The accused picked up the child yesterday morning and allegedly sexually assaulted the child, he said, adding that the parents came to know about it when the child was bleeding profusely from the private parts.

Aadi Pudipeddi to be seen in ‘full-length action’ avatar

Actor Aadi Pudipeddi, who has so far been seen mostly in romantic roles, says he has donned his first full-length action avatar in the upcoming Telugu film “Rough”, for which he also had to rigorously work on his body.

“All my films have had action, but it was limited to a few scenes. ‘Rough’ is the first full-length action film of my career,” Aadi told IANS.

“I was required to build my body for the role. I worked rigorously to sport a six-pack abs. Never was I needed to work so hard for a character,” he added.

Shiv Sena’s Sunil Prabhu emerged triumphant from the Dindoshi assembly constituency in Mumbai, defeating Maharashtra’s richest candidate and BJP nominee Mohit Kamboj.

Pakistan violates ceasefire in Pargwal sectors

In yet another ceasefire violation, Pakistani Rangers on Sunday resorted to small arms firing on forward Border Outposts (BoPs) along the international border in Jammu district.

“Pakistani Rangers resorted to small arms firing at BoPs along IB in Pargwal sectors of Jammu district around 1030 hours this morning,” District Magistrate of Jammu Ajeet Kumar Sahu said.

“Their aim was to prevent farmers from harvesting their crops,” he claimed.

Flipkart leases office space from Embassy in largest deal

In the largest office leasing deal, homegrown e-commerce giant Flipkart on Saturday agreed to take 3 million sq ft of prime office space in Bangalore from realty firm Embassy group at an annual rent of Rs 300 crore.

The lease contract is part of Flipkart’s expansion plans as it will hire 12,000 people this year to beef up support and technology operations.

The Bangalore-based firm has chalked out an ambitious expansion plan as it aims to take on rivals like Snapdeal and Amazon to grab a lion’s share of the estimated over USD 3 billion e-commerce market in India.

NSE to auction government bonds worth Rs 646 cr on Tuesday

Leading bourse, National Stock Exchange (NSE) will auction government debt securities worth Rs 646 crore for overseas investors on Tuesday, whose total investment has crossed 99% of permitted limit.

The auction would be conducted for overseas investors at ‘nse-ebid’ platform for government debt securities, as per information provided by the bourse.

The total overseas investments in government debt securities through auction route has touched Rs 1,23,786 crore as on October 17, which is which is 99.48 percent of total permitted limit of Rs 1,24,432 crore.

Vatican synod rejects openness towards homosexuality in final report

The proposal for wider acceptance of homosexuals has reportedly failed to win a two-thirds majority at the Vatican synod convened by Pope Francis.

A draft report that was issued midway through the meeting had urged the Church to soften its stance towards homosexuals and divorced Catholics who have remarried. However, the text was watered down in the final report approved by the council. The revised document only said that discrimination against gay people “is to be avoided,” reported the BBC.
