Pak suspends TV channel ARY News for defaming judiciary

Pakistan has suspended the license of a local TV channel for a period of 15 days for allegedly airing a defamatory program against the judiciary.

According to the BBC, ARY News TV was also fined 10m rupees (97,089 dollars) by broadcasting regulator Pemra.

Pemra said in a statement that ARY News had been “maligning honourable courts and judiciary”.

This is the second such incident in a span of four months when Pemra has suspended a TV channel.

BJP, Congress ignore Bilawal Bhutto`s comments on Kashmir, dub him `immature`

Describing Pakistan People’s Party chief Bilawal Bhutto as politically immature, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress on Monday chose not to take his rants on Kashmir seriously and instead advised the Bhutto scion to read the Shimla Agreement before making such statements.

“As far as Bilawal Bhutto is concerned he is not taken seriously in his own country, why should we take him seriously. He needs to grow up and he is quite immature as far as political scenario is concerned,” BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra told a news agency here.

Tatra deal: Court to hear case against Tejinder Singh on Dec 6

A Delhi court Monday fixed December 6 for hearing a case in which CBI has chargesheeted Lt Gen (retd) Tejinder Singh for allegedly offering Rs 14 crore bribe to then Army Chief Gen V K Singh for clearing Tatra vehicles file.

Special CBI Judge Madhu Jain posted the matter for hearing on December 6 after the counsel appearing for Tejinder Singh moved a plea seeking documents related to the case which were filed by the agency along with its chargesheet.

Congress, which had bagged 17 of the total 36 Assembly constituencies in Mumbai in 2009, fared miserably this time, managing to retain only five seats.

BJP won 15 and Shiv Sena 14 seats. MIM and Samajwadi party won one seat each, while Raj Thackeray-led MNS drew a blank in the megapolis.

Former Women and Child Welfare Minister Varsha Gaikwad (Congress) retained her Dharavi seat. She polled 47,718 votes against Shiv Sena’s Baburao Mane, who bagged 32,227 votes.

Stop creating fake profiles to nab criminals: Facebook

Social networking site Facebook has asked the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to desist from creating fake profiles to nab criminals.

In a letter to the agency, Facebook’s chief security officer Joe Sullivan wrote: “We regard the DEA’s conduct to be a knowing and serious breach of Facebook’s terms and policies. The social network asks that the DEA immediately confirm that it has ceased all activities on Facebook that involve the impersonation of others or that otherwise violate our terms and policies”.

Heart attack ups depression risk in women

Women are at a higher risk of developing anxiety and depression after a heart attack than men, new research shows.

In a study involving 160 patients from Vilnius University Hospital Santariskiu Clinics in Lithuania, researchers investigated the impact of gender and cardio-vascular disease risk factors on the risk of developing depression and anxiety after an heart attack.

They found that nearly one quarter of patients (24.4 percent) were depressed and of those, 28.2 percent had received treatment with anti-depressants.

Sexual intercourse was invented 385 million years ago in Scotland by fish from an extinct group called placoderms, which are among the earliest vertebrate ancestors of humans, according to a new study.

Scientists have long been puzzled by the purpose of bony protrusions in placoderms that resembled a surplus pair of fins or limbs just in front of the tail.

A new study, to be published in the journal Nature, has found that the protrusions were in fact used by the fish to cling together as they mated, ‘The Sunday Times’ reported.

Gene mutation linked to leukaemia occurs among elderly

At least two percent of people over age 40 and five percent of people over 70 have mutations linked to leukaemia and lymphoma in their blood cells, according to research at the Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis.

Mutations in the body’s cells randomly accumulate as part of the ageing process, and most are harmless. For some people, genetic changes in blood cells can develop in genes that play roles in initiating leukaemia and lymphoma – types of blood cancer, the researchers found.

Seventy dead bodies of IS militants dropped off at hospital: Syrian opposition group

A report has revealed that at least 70 dead bodies of Islamic State (IS) fighters have been dropped off at a hospital in the Syrian town of Tal Abyad over the past four days, a Syrian opposition group said
Although it has not been confirmed yet but the bodies are likely to have been dropped off by other militants belonging to the terror group as the town is controlled by the IS, reported the CNN.

Sources who work in local medicine confirmed the events to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The town of Tal Abyad is located on the Turkish border, about 80 kilometers from Raqqa.

Injured in stone-pelting, police constable dies in Kashmir

A Jammu and Kashmir Police constable, who was injured in a stone pelting incident, died of his injuries on Monday in a hospital in Srinagar, an official said.

“Constable Waseem Ahmad Bhat, who was injured in stone pelting incident in Srinagar’s Hazratbal area Aug 29, 2014, on Monday succumbed to his injuries in SKIMS (Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences) in Srinagar,” a senior police officer said here.

Dangote, a Nigerian multi investor and an industrialist made the commitment in a telephone conversation with President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf on Friday, according to a statement by the Liberian government on Sunday.

The Nigerian volunteered to assist Liberia with medical personnel and other human and material resources aimed at containing the spread of the virus, Xinhua reported citing the statement.

The men have been found guilty of abducting and gang-raping a 30-year-old call centre executive in Delhi.

The hearing on the quantum of sentence in which the prosecution demanded maximum punishment for the convicts citing their criminal background took place last week.
