DLF seeks interim relief from ban; next SAT hearing on Oct 30

Barred by SEBI from accessing capital markets, realty giant DLF Wednesday sought interim relief from Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT) to allow it to redeem funds locked in mutual funds and other instruments.

After hearing the petition filed by India’s largest realty developer last week against the ban, SAT Presiding Officer J P Devadhar adjourned the matter to October 30, and sought response from the capital markets regulator on DLF’s plea for an interim relief.

Hydrogen fuel cell cars to rule the roost in future

They may be exorbitantly expensive at the moment, but cars powered by hydrogen fuel cells have the potential to challenge the dominance of petrol and diesel cars in the near future, said a researcher from Loughborough University in Britain.

“They have significant advantages over traditional cars,” said Michael Whiteley, who is three years into a four-year project on hydrogen fuel cell technology.

In these cars, the fuel tank is filled with hydrogen instead of petrol or diesel and the fuel cell converts this to electricity, which powers the car.

US House Science Committee to probe Twitter study

The US House Science Committee has announced a probe into an ambitious study by the Indiana University to collect and analyse ‘social pollution’ that is spreading on social media like Twitter.

“The government has no business using taxpayer dollars to support limiting free speech on Twitter and other social media,” Lamar Smith, chairman of US House Science Committee, said in a statement.

“While the Science Committee has recently looked into a number of other questionable NSF grants, this one appears to be worse than a simple misuse of public funds,” The Hill reported him as saying.

1. 1 Cup Urad daal
2. Oil to fry
3. 1 kg Dahi
4. Salt to taste
5. 2tsp Roasted cumin (jeera) powder
6. Red chilli powder to taste
7. Tamarid chutney

Method:

1. Rinse and drain the overnight soaked beans. Add water to flour and make soft dough.

2. Leave for 1 hour after covering the dough with damp cloth.

3. Grind the beans along with chilli powder, salt and spices to prepare the stuffing.

4. Divide into 16 equal portions after mixing it well. Divide the dough also into 16 portions smearing them with little oil.

Ismail Ali Khan appointed as TSERC Chairman

Ismail Ali Khan, former director of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) has been appointed as the chairman of the newly created Electricity Regulatory Commission of Telangana state here on Tuesday.

The other members of the ERC includes L Manohar Reddy, presently director of Andhra Pradesh ERC and will be technical in-charge and H Srinivasulu, who is currently an advisor to Deloitte Corp, will be the financial in-charge.

Sensex rises for fourth day on capital inflows amid govt’s economic reforms

he benchmark Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) index Sensex on Wednesday surged over 212 points in early trade on the last trading session of the Samvat Year 2070, extending gains for the fourth straight day on increased capital inflows amid the government’s reform push.

Brokers said sentiments remained upbeat and capital inflows picked up after the government announced reforms in the oil and gas and coal sectors.

Further, a firming trend in global markets also buoyed trading sentiments.

BPL card to get filtered with enligibles in Telangana

The number of ration cards issued to households below poverty line is reduced by about 25 per cent, as per the T-Government planning . By year end, the government implements the guidelines for issuance of new cards that will replace the existing ones.

Presently, there are 80.13 lakh cards in the State and the plan is to restrict the number of BPL cards.

No guidelines has been framed for issuance of new ration cards under the FSA, disclosed official sources.

Demand to surpass supply in Hyderabad’s real estate market

A new study has revealed that animal-assisted therapy can reduce symptoms of anxiety and loneliness among college students.

According to researchers at Georgia State University, Idaho State University and Savannah College of Art and Design, there was a 60 percent decrease in self-reported anxiety and loneliness symptoms following animal-assisted therapy, in which a registered therapy dog was under the supervision of a licensed mental health practitioner.

U.S., Iraq planning ground offensive against IS to recapture towns, cities

The United States and Iraq are drawing up a plan for Iraqi ground troops to launch operations against the Islamic State militants in order to reclaims the towns and cities occupied by IS, said a senior administration official.

The plan will not be implemented at least until the next seven months, reported the Washington Times.

It would also ensure that Iraqi forces do not overstretch themselves before they recapture territories from IS fighters.

Francois van Zyl, the lawyer representing Shrien Dewani, 34, produced medical notes in the Western Cape High Court showing she had visited the doctors on November 4 2010.

The medical notes shown in court revealed how Anni had told doctors she was not using contraception and was told to take tablets to improve her fertility, Daily Star reports.

A new study has revealed that marital hostility and a history of depression can increase the risk for obesity in adults by altering how the body processes high-fat foods.

The study found that men and women who had a history of depression whose arguments with spouses were especially heated showed several potential metabolic problems after eating a high-fat meal and burned fewer calories and had higher levels of insulin and spikes of triglycerides – a form of fat in the blood – after eating a heavy meal when compared to participants without these risk factors.

RBI says onus of forming JLF on lead bank; warns of penalty

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) put the onus of forming a Joint Lenders’ Forum (JLF) on the bank with highest exposure to a distressed borrower and said here today that failure to do so would attract higher provisioning penalties for that bank alone.

Under revised norms, RBI has also tightened distressed asset sales to asset reconstruction companies (ARCs) saying that banks should first fulfil commitments made at the lenders’ forum in case of a loan recast.

The Bihar government yesterday allowed sale of five kg LPG cylinders that were banned after Bodh Gaya serial blasts last year in which the use of unlicensed small gas cylinders was suspected.

Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs Shyam Rajak launched the sale of five kg LPG cylinder of Indian Oil Corporation at a function at a retailer here.

Consumers can purchase five kg cylinders from retail outlets after producing identity cards, a release from Indian Oil said here.

Additional 13 mn urban housing demand seen by 2018-end: C&W

Property consultant Cushman & Wakefield on Monday projected an additional urban housing demand of 13 million units in the country by end of 2018, of which nearly one-fourth would be in the country’s top eight cities.

This is in addition to the already existing unmet demand, it added.

Acccording to the Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation’s 2012 estimates, housing shortages was around 18.78 million units in the entire country.

Girl gangraped by boyfriend, two others ; act filmed

A 20-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped here by three men, including her boyfriend, who also filmed the act and threatened her that they will upload the clip on internet if she told anyone about the incident, police said today.

The accused have been identified as Nageen Gupta, his brother Ashu Gupta and friend Nicky.

The victim is a resident of Bhawanpur area here while Nageen is a resident of Sashtri Nagar.

Nursery student sexually abused in Bangalore school

In the third such incident in the past four months, a three-year-old girl student was allegedly sexually abused inside a private school here yesterday, police said.

“A three-year-old girl studying in nursery class was allegedly sexually abused here,” Joint Commissioner (Crime) Hemant Nimbalkar told PTI late tonight.

A criminal case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012 and IPC section 376 (rape) on a complaint from the father of the child, he said.
