Another Rave Party busted, Sudanese national held

Cyberbad police busted an alleged rave party which was held by a group of Sudanese nationals in a resort on the outskirts of Medchal Road.

More than a dozen persons and 18 Sudanese nationals including 6 women were arrested, the police claim.

According to ACP M Srinivasa Rao of Petbasheerbad, police acted on tip-off and raided a party at Honey Berg Resorts in Turkapally on the Medchal Road beyond 11 pm on Wednesday.

Real estate developer group owned the resort which was booked by a group of Sudanese nationals to host a party.

Chidambaram is right in expressing his anxiety: NCP

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Majid Memon on Saturday said former finance minister P Chidambaram is absolutely correct in expressing his anxiety over the deteriorating position of the Congress party.

“Chidambaram is right in expressing his anxiety and serious need to hold introspection within house and rebuild the party much before it is totally gone,” Memon said.

“Over the past few months, we are seeing Congress is being decimated to such a situation that they are not even in a position to claim the opposition’s position, which is very agonizing and disturbing,” he added.

Arvind Kejriwal to approach Election Commission against BJP

Congress minister Sham Lal Sharma resigns from Omar Abdullah ministry

Ahead of announcement of elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Congress Minister Sham Lal Sharma, who has been facing criticism over handling of recent floods, has tendered his resignation from the Omar Abdullah ministry.

Citing alleged sabotage of regularisation of daily wagers as a reason for tendering his resignation, Sharma, who is Minister for Public Health Engineering and Flood Control, met Jammu and Kashmir’s Congress Chief Saif-ud-din Soz last night and handed over his resignation.

A non-Gandhi may some day lead the Congress, says Chidambaram

Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Friday said in a TV interview that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi should “speak more”.

He added that the party leadership has to put in action a timetable that would enable the party to play the role of “true opposition” at a time when the morale of party cadres is “pretty low”.

Asked if a non-Gandhi become the Congress president, he said: “I think so. Someday yes”, but was quick to add, “I do not know” when asked about the timeline for such an eventuality.

Palestinian-American teenager killed in clash with Israeli military

A Palestinian-American teenager was killed during clashes with the Israeli military amid heightened tensions in Jerusalem and the West Bank.

A relative identified the teen as 14-year-old Orwah Hammad and said he was born in New Orleans and came to the West Bank at age six. Hammad’s cousin Moath said he was among a group of Palestinians who were throwing rocks at Israeli soldiers. A US State Department official on Friday confirmed that the teenager was an American citizen. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak publicly about the case.

Bombay High Court rejects Parsi man’s plea to nullify wedlock to Hindu

The Bombay High Court has rejected the plea of a Parsi man to declare his 15-year-old marriage to a Hindu as null and void as their wedlock was arranged in accordance with Hindu rituals though they professed different religions.

A division bench recently dismissed an appeal filed by Viraf Phiroz Bharucha, a city resident, against a family court order rejecting his plea to grant divorce under the Hindu Marriage Act, saying that there was no merit in the case and that the plea was barred by law.

No plan to curtail supply of subsidised LPG cylinders: Pradhan

The government has no plans to curtail supply of subsidised cooking gas (LPG) from current 12 cylinders per household in a year even as it looks to give cash subsidy to consumers across the country by June.

“There is absolutely no proposal to reduce subsidised LPG quota (per household),” Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said in an interview.

In August, the Narendra Modi-led government gave consumers the freedom to avail their quota of 12 cylinders of 14.2-kg weight at subsidised rate during anytime of the year against the previous restriction of one per month.

Modern people have far more gum disease than our predecessors, according to a British study of skulls published Friday. The surprise findings provide further evidence that modern habits such as smoking are damaging to oral health.

Gum disease, also known as periodontitis, is the result of a chronic inflammatory response to the build-up of dental plaque. Whilst much of the population lives with mild gum disease, factors such as tobacco smoking or medical conditions like diabetes can trigger more severe chronic periodontitis, which can lead to the loss of teeth.

Molecule that causes rheumatoid arthritis discovered

Japanese researchers have identified one of the substances that cause rheumatoid arthritis, an unprecedented finding that could eventually lead to a cure for the disease, media reported Friday.

In patients with rheumatoid arthritis, immune cells mistakenly identify molecules in the body as invasive substances and attack them, resulting in an inflammatory condition that causes joint swelling and pain.

But it has remained unknown which molecules are targeted by the immune cells.

Rain likely in Delhi Saturday

It will be a partly cloudy Saturday here with the possibility of light rainfall in some areas, the Met Office said.

The minimum temperature was 18.6 degrees Celsius, slightly above the season’s average.

“The sky will remain partly cloudy. There is a possibility of one or two spells of rain and thundershowers in some parts of the city afternoon onwards,” said an official of the India Meteorological Department.

Obama hugs nurse who survived Ebola

US President Barack Obama greeted nurse Nina Pham in the Oval Office with a big hug to celebrate her recovery from the Ebola virus, which she was the first person in the country to contract.

Obama met with Pham, 26, in the White House, where photographers immortalised an embrace that reflected the president’s wish to calm American citizens following the arrival of Ebola in the country.

The meeting was closed to the press and only photographers were allowed in the Oval Office to record the event.

Boy, 5, carries knife to stab ‘bad teachers’

A five-year- old boy in the UK had smuggled a kitchen knife into his primary school and heard telling fellow pupils that it was for “stabbing bad teachers”.

Staff at Partington Church of England Primary School, overheard the pupil boasting to friends about the weapon he had in his school bag. It was then confiscated and the youngster was excluded from the school in Hull, East Yorks, for a week.

Parents were outraged after the school hushed up the incident.

After car crash in Malaysia , Indian crawls for 3 days to safety

A 33-year-old Indian man, who was seriously injured in a car crash that killed another ethnic Indian, crawled for three days in a Malaysian jungle before he finally found an isolated settlement to seek help.

In the accident that occurred last Sunday near Bidor in central Malaysia, the car driven by Nicholas Andrew lost control and landed in a 20m ravine. Andrew, who suffered a broken right arm and leg, was forced to crawl along the stream to get help. His friend R Thiyagarajan, 34, another ethnic Indian, was killed at the scene.

Shorter treatment for TB no substitute for standard 6 month counterpart

In a new study, scientists have found that though a shortened 4 month treatment for TB could work well in subsets of TB patients, but could not taken as a substitute for current 6 month standard treatment.

The study was designed to verify whether replacing one of the four drugs of the standard regimen with gatifloxacin could shorten the overall treatment duration of TB from six to four months.
