SA prosecutors to appeal against Pistorius’ conviction and sentence

South African prosecutors have revealed that they are going to appeal against Paralympics sprinter Oscar Pistorius’ conviction and the sentence given to the double amputee athlete for killing his girlfriend.

Pistorius began serving a five-year prison sentence last week for the culpable homicide of Reeva Steenkamp, although the South African athlete might be out in 10 months. He was cleared of murder.

Sisi empowers military to protect state facilities, conduct ‘military trials’ post Sinai attack

In the wake of the terror attack that killed more than 30 soldiers last week in the Sinai Peninsula, Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi has reportedly enacted new laws that have authorized the military to protect state facilities.

The new decree allows state infrastructure like, power plants, main roads and bridges, to be defined as “military facilities” for two years and permits the army to work with the police to secure such facilities. It will also give the military the right to try civilians who it suspects of launching attacks on these sites, reported the BBC.

High powered committee to inquire JEE allegations

Nagaland government on Monday formed a High Power Committee (HPC) to inquire into the alleged irregularities, lapses and loopholes into the process for conduct of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and selection of candidates for various technical courses through Common Selection Board (CSB).

The five-member committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary, C J Ponraj, would suggest measures for streamlining the whole process and submit its report to the government within a period of one month.

UNICEF warns India against Polio risk as cases rise in Pak

“Polio virus doesn’t need any visa to cross border,” UNICEF on Monday warned polio-free India as the number of cases of the paralysing disease reached an alarming high in Pakistan.

The UN agency’s warning came months after World Health Organisation (WHO) declared India polio-free and Pakistan recently recorded its 200th case of polio, the highest case count in that country in more than a decade.

Honda recalls 2,338 Brio, Amaze, CR-V in India

Honda Cars India (HCIL) is recalling 2,338 units of its hatchback Brio, compact sedan Amaze and sports utility vehicle CR-V manufactured between September 2011 and July 2014 to replace a faulty part related to airbags.

As part of a global recall by its parent Honda, the company said it would carry out preventive replacement of driver side air bag inflator of 1,040 units of Honda Brio, 1,235 units of Honda Amaze and 63 units of Honda CR-V.

Emaar MGF partners PayU for online payment facility to buyers

Realty firm Emaar MGF has tied up with payment gateway firm PayU India for providing an online payment facility to its customers.

“Emaar MGF customers can now pay EMIs for their properties through PayUMoney,” the developer said in a statement today.

PayUMoney would help customers to pay anytime and any amount with no restrictions of NEFT or RTGS, it added.

PayU is one of the world’s largest consumer payment processors. PayUMoney is a payment solution developed by PayU India.

India’s GDP likely to grow by 5.6% in FY15: World Bank

India’s GDP is likely to expand by 5.6 per cent this fiscal as reforms gain momentum and the growth is expected to accelerate as proposed measures such as GST will give a boost to manufacturing sector, a World Bank report said on Monday.

In the following years, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth is likely to rise further to 6.4 per cent and 7 per cent in FY16 and FY17 respectively, it said.

Cocoa may reverse memory decline

Age-related memory decline can be reversed with a little alteration in your diet, specifically the inclusion of cocoa flavanols, showed a research.

India, Vietnam to sign deal on oil exploration in South China Sea

In a move that is likely to irk China, India and Vietnam will sign an agreement today here for oil exploration in South China Sea with the visiting Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung declaring that Indian ships would be allowed into the area despite Chinese protestations.

According to sources, India has decided to accept 2-3 Vietnamese oil blocks in the South China Sea based on the techno-commercial feasibility report by the ONGC Videsh Limited and an agreement in this regard would be inked tomorrow after the talks.

Pizza with Pumpkin, Spinach and Cheese

Ingredients

1. 900 g orange pumpkin halved and deseeded
2. 1 lg red onion thinly sliced
3. 1 Tbsp olive oil
4. 1 c grated gouda cheese
5. 450 g fresh wholewheat pizza dough
6. 5 c baby spinach leaves
7.2 Tbsp pine nuts, toasted

Method:

1. Heat oven to 180 degrees, coat baking sheet with cooking spray. Put pumpkin flesh side down on prepared pan and roast for 30 minutes. Turn flesh side up and roast until very tender for 25 minutes. When cooled, scrape flesh into bowl and mash.

2. Place pizza stone on rack in centre of oven and increase heat to 280 degrees.

Sweet Carrot-Coconut Dimsums

Ingredients

1. 1 cup Atta with Multigrains,
2. 2 Tbsp oil/ghee,
3. 2 Tbsp sugar,
4. 1/2 cup warm water,
5. 1/2 cup grated carrot,
6. 1/4 cup grated tender coconut, mashed dates, almonds, walnuts, raisins and dried melon seeds each,
7. 1/4cup milk,
8. 1/2tsp cardamom and nutmeg powder

Method:
1. For dimsums, add 1 Tbsp oil and sugar to Atta with Multigrains.
2. Knead into soft dough with warm water. Set aside.
3. For filling, put 1 Tbsp oil in a pan, add grated coconut and carrot. Saute.

The survey showed that eight in 10 people hit snooze every morning, the Daily Express reported.

Dr Nerina Ramlakhan, sleep therapist, said that snoozing, which appears incredibly tempting, was a bad habit as it reduces the quality of sleep.

China mulls scrapping death penalty for nine crimes

China, accused by rights groups of carrying out world’s largest number of executions every year, now plans to cut down death penalty for nine crimes including smuggling weapons and nuclear materials.

The draft amendment to the Criminal Law was submitted to the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, the Chinese Parliament, on Monday for the first reading during the legislature’s bi-monthly session, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
