Maruti Suzuki Q2 net up 28.69% at Rs 862.54 crore

The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Thursday reported a 28.69 percent increase in net profit at Rs 862.54 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 2014-15 on the account of growth in domestic sales.

It had posted net profit of Rs 670.23 crore in the same period last fiscal, MSI said in a statement.
Net sales during Q2, 2014-15, stood at Rs 11,996.33 crore, up 17.47 percent as against Rs 10,211.83 crore in the same quarter of last fiscal.

Fitch assigns stable rating to Indiabulls Real Estate

Fitch Ratings has assigned a stable rating to Mumbai-based Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd.
It has also assigned B+ rating to the company’s proposed dollar denominated notes.

“Fitch Ratings has assigned India-based Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd (IBREL) a Long-Term Foreign Currency Issuer Default Rating (IDR) of ‘B+’. The Outlook is Stable.

“The agency has also assigned IBREL’s proposed US dollar denominated guaranteed notes an expected rating of ‘B+(EXP)’ and Recovery Rating of ‘RR4’,” Fitch said in a statement.

IIHM introduces degree in Master of Public Health

Indian Institute of Health Management Research University has introduced a degree in Masters of Public Health in co-operation with the John Hopkins University of USA.

“The programme is designed to focus on public health capacity building in developing countries and cultivate students’ health management skills, so that they will be prepared to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of public health programs,” IIHM release said.

It also aims in preparing professionals for challenging careers in public health management in the public and private sectors.

Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor hospitalised for dengue, malaria

Actor Rishi Kapoor has been hospitalised for dengue and malaria, according to a spokesperson of the Lilavati Hospital at suburban Bandra West.

“Rishi Kapoor is undergoing treatment for dengue and malaria,” a Lilavati Hospital spokesperson told PTI. The 62-year-old actor was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital on Wednesday after he was diagnosed with dengue and malaria, the spokesperson said.

Rishi was last seen in the Sonam Kapoor-Ayushmann Khurrana starrer ‘Bewakoofiyaan’, where he played the role of a doting father to the actress.

More than 17,000 people evacuated as cyclone Nilofar nears Gujarat

More than 17,000 people living near the coastal areas in Gujarat have been evacuated by authorities in view of the approaching tropical cyclone Nilofar which, however, has gradually weakened and is expected to hit the state merely as a “depression”.

“So far, we have shifted 17,372 people from Kutch and Jamnagar district to safer places. Since the cyclone is expected to cross Kutch tomorrow, majority of the evacuees are from that district.

“The remaining 235 people are from the coastal parts of Jamnagar,” Gujarat State Relief Commissioner DN Pandey said here today.

Another Bangalore school girl raped, suspect arrested

A physical training teacher at a private school was arrested Thursday for allegedly raping a six-year-old student twice this week, a police official said.

“We have arrested the accused, Jaishankar, on a complaint by the victim’s parents that he had allegedly raped their young daughter twice in the school in Indirangar area,” Additional Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar told reporters.

One killed in Jammu and Kashmir accident

At least one person was killed and 28 people were injured late Thursday when a bus rolled down a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, police said.

“The accident occurred at Budhi Morh on the Rajouri-Kotranda road late yesterday (Thursday)” after the driver of a mini bus lost control over the vehicle, a police officer told IANS.

A rescue operation was launched immediately by police and civilians in the area. “All the injured people were rushed to the district hospital in Rajouri town where one passenger succumbed to injuries,” the officer said.

Madras High Court passes order of compromise between teacher, mother of pupil

Madras High Court today directed a teacher of a city based school to pay a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the mother of student for beating her son on the cheek, in full and final settlement following a compromise reached between the two parties.

The first Bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice M Sathyanarayanan passed the order on the petitions filed by Meharunnisa, mother of the student A Aris Iqubal and the teacher T Ramagowri.

Gold futures down at Rs 26,876 per 10 gm

Gold prices moved down by 0.75 per cent to Rs 26,876 per 10 grams at the futures trade today as speculators trimmed positions in tandem with a weak global trend where the precious metal traded near three-weak low.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold for delivery in December fell Rs 203 or 0.75 per cent to Rs 26,876 per 10 grams in a business turnover of 1,067 lots.

In a similar fashion, the metal for delivery in February moved down by Rs 186 or 0.68 per cent to Rs 27,114 per kg in 18 lots.

Gang cheating people in the name of overseas jobs busted

With the arrest of a person, police here today claimed to have busted a gang of frauds who allegedly cheated people on the pretext of getting jobs for them abroad.

The investigation in the case was initiated after a complaint was filed by Jharkhand residents Ranjan Kumar and Prashant Kumar who were allegedly duped by the gang for over Rs 80,000, police said.

Five year old Ayan Qureshi last month became the youngest Microsoft Certified professional, accomplishing the feat at the age of five years, 11 months.

The Pakistan-origin British boy gave his exams in Birmingham University last month, toppling Pakistani Mehroz Yawar who passed the exam at the practically ancient age of six and a half.

Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal seeks upward revision of Minimum Support Price for wheat

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday asked the Union Government to “upwardly revise” the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wheat for the forthcoming season.

“The MSP must be hiked to the level where the mismatch between input costs of agriculture produce and MSP announced for these was removed,” Badal said in a statement in Chandigarh.

He said the Swaminthan formula for fixing the MSP should be implemented. According to this formula, farmers should get MSP which should cover production costs, plus 50% of these costs to be paid to the farmer.

SC stays proceedings on defamation cases against Subramanian Swamy

The Supreme Court on Thursday stayed proceedings on criminal defamation cases filed against BJP leader Subramanian Swamy by AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa.

A bench of Justices Deepak Mishra and U U Lalit also issued notices to Centre and Tamil Nadu government on Swamy’s plea for scrapping the provisions for criminal defamation in penal laws.

The court stayed the proceedings in all five defamation cases filed against Swamy in Sessions court of Chennai.

India re-elected to United Nations Economic and Social Council

India has overwhelmingly won its re-election to the UN body on economic and social issues, garnering the highest number of votes in the Asia-Pacific group.

The 193-member UN General Assembly yesterday elected 18 members of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) to serve a three-year term beginning January 1, 2015.

India was competing in the Asia-Pacific group, in which election was held for three seats.

1. 1tsp ghee (you can use a heart-friendly oil, but it will alter flavour)

3. 1tsp jeera (cumin) seeds
4. 1/2tsp turmeric
5. 1tsp red chilli powder
6. 4-5 medium-sized tomatoes, chopped
7. 1/2kg tender lauki, cubed
8. Salt to taste
9. 1/2 cup cream (or 1 cup milk
10. Fresh coriander leaves to garnish

Procedure:

1. Heat ghee in pressure cooker. Saute jeera till it turns aromatic and crackles; stir in dhania, turmeric and chilli powder. Add chopped tomatoes and cook, stirring, for about 3 minutes.

1. 4 (12-inch) bamboo skewers
2.2 ripe tomatoes, thinly sliced
3. 1/2tsp coarsely ground pepper
4. 1tsp salt
5. 1 large sweet onion, sliced into 1/2-inch rounds
6. 4 hamburger buns, split
7. 4 green lettuce leaves (not iceberg)
8. 550g kofta keema (fine mince)

Procedure:

1. Soak skewers in water for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare barbecue for direct grilling over medium heat, or preheat ridged grill plate on medium heat until very hot.
