Court orders lodging of FIR against SP MLA, four others

A local court has ordered lodging of FIR against a ruling Samajwadi Party MLA and four others in connection with the alleged abduction of a woman and efforts to grab her land in Bhogajit Nagariya village.

It was alleged that Maalwati, who was living alone in the village, was abducted on July 17, 2013 and despite complaints no action in this connection was taken as a relative of Sahaswan MLA Omkar Singh was eyeing her land, according to prosecution.

Kerala police to host national meet on gender sensitization

Kerala police will host a two-day national conference on gender sensitization and empowerment of women here from Novemeber 27.

The event is being organised as part of implementation of the flagship programme on gender awareness.

The conference will aim at sharing the best practices and experience of women police officers in different states regarding the empowerment of women, an official release of the Kerala Police said.

American boxing legend Mohammad Ali’s doctor has reportedly played down fears concerning the former world heavyweight champion’s health.

72-year-old Ali has had Parkinson’s disease since 1984 and there have been rumours his health has been deteriorating. However, Dr. Abraham Lieberman has said that he doesn’t know that the former boxer is more or less at risk than anyone else but added that anything could happen.

BSF put on high alert in Rajasthan after Wagah blast

High alert has been sounded on the border area here by BSF in the wake of the blast near Wagah border in Pakistan.

“BSF personnel have been put on high alert after the blast yesterday. Patrolling along the border areas has been intensified,” BSF DIG, Ravi Gandhi said today.

He said number of BSF personnel at some posts have been increased.

At least 61 people were killed and nearly 200 injured when a suicide attacker detonated a powerful bomb at Wagah in Pakistan yesterday, minutes after the popular flag-lowering ceremony at the main Indo-Pak land border crossing.

Jennifer Lawrence buys Jessica Simpson’s old LA home

‘Hunger Games’ star Jennifer Lawrence has bought a house in Beverly Crest for USD 8.225 million.

The house was sold to the 24-year-old actress by Sydney Holland, who had bought it a year ago from singer Jessica Simpson for USD 6.4 million, reported the Los Angeles Times.

The 5,500-square-foot French-style house was built in 1991 and has high ceilings, an updated kitchen, an office, five bedrooms and six bathrooms. The front of the house has a stone and floral courtyard with a koi pond. The backyard contains a lawn and a swimming pool.

NZ minister, Fleming to lead trade mission to India

New Zealand Minister for primary industries, Nathan Guy alongwith former skipper and Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming is leading a business delegation to Delhi and Mumbai this week to further strengthen trade ties ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

“New Zealand and India are both great cricketing nations. I am delighted to be leading this trade mission, and also to celebrate New Zealand’s hosting of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. New Zealand currently exports $594 million to India, but there is scope to grow the market,” said Guy.

Border trade worth over Rs 3 crore took place between India and China this year through Lipulekh pass in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, according to final figures released by Dharchula sub-division of the district on Monday.

Metropolitan Magistrate Niti Phutela, on the completion of argument on charges, ordered framing of charges against three accused Salim, Saalim and Riyaz.

The magistrate read out the charges to all the three accused present in the court to which they pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.

Najeeb Jung invites parties for talks to end political uncertainty

Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung on Monday invited the main parties — BJP, Congress and AAP — for talks, kick-starting fresh efforts to install an elected government and will take a final decision soon to end the eight-month-long political uncertainty in Delhi.

Sources in LG’s office said a “final decision” on the political situation is likely to be taken at the earliest based on views of the three political parties.

Mr. Jung first invited BJP for talks on whether it is interested in taking a shot at the power, being the single largest party in the Assembly.

Maharashtra government looking to engage noted lawyer Ujjwal Nikam for Dalit family murder case

The Maharashtra government is contemplating handing over the triple Dalit family murder case at Javkheda village in Ahmednagar district to eminent lawyer Ujjwal Nikam, Minister of State Dilip Kamble said today.

Three members of the Dalit family in the village including the husband, wife and their 19-year-old son were murdered in their house by unknown assailants on October 21 and their severed body parts were found in a dry well.

Maruti Suzuki to launch new Alto K10 today

With an eye on reviving growth in its bread and butter mini car segment, the country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India will launch a new version of its Alto K10 on Monday.

After the Celerio, the Alto K10 will be the second model to be equipped with auto gear shift (AGS) feature.

While the petrol version delivers a mileage of 24.07 km per litre, the CNG variant will have a fuel economy of 32.26 km per kg.

It will have six different variants and the AGS option will be available only with the top end.

Fishermen families to meet Tamil Nadu CM O Panneerselvam to plead for their release

Family members of five Tamil Nadu fishermen, sentenced to death in a drug trafficking case by a Sri Lankan Court, and representatives of fishermen association would meet state Chief Minister O Panneerselvam on Monday to press for securing their release.

A delegation of the association and family members led by Ramanathapuram MP Anwar Raja of AIADMK would meet the Chief Minister and request him to take steps to get the death sentence set aside and bring back the fishermen, officials said.

Forex dealers said besides the dollar gaining against other currencies in the global markets, increased demand for the American unit from importers weighed on the rupee but surging domestic equity markets, capped the fall.

The rupee gained nine paise to close at 61.36 against the dollar in the previous session on Friday.

Sheikh Mansour bin Rashid Al Maktoum of Dubai World Hospitality Championship received the Guinness World Records certificate on the sidelines of the second edition of DWHC which concluded yesterday at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

The previous highest advertising was recorded in the US at the height of 310 metres.

Assets of India’s financial institutions touch $2.8 trillion

The total value of assets held by India’s financial institutions touched nearly USD 2.8 trillion, the third largest among BRICS nations, in 2013, says a report.

Way ahead, neighbouring China’s financial institutions held assets to the tune of USD 34.43 trillion last year, the Financial Stability Board (FSB) has said.

BRICS grouping constitutes Brazil, Russia India, China and South Africa.

As per the figures compiled by the FSB, the value of assets of financial institutions in India touched USD 2.79 trillion last year.

Caramel Custard

Ingredients

125 gms sugar

1/2 liter milk

1/2 tsp vanilla essence

2 tsp chocolate (powdered)

4 Tbsp custard powder (vanilla flavored)

Method

Caramelize 25 gm of sugar in a non stick pan with 1 tablespoon of water.

Boil on a low flame for ten minutes till the sugar turns into golden brown and cool.

Mix custard powder with 20ml cold milk (little) and keep it aside.

Boil milk and add sugar. Reduce the flame.

Now add the custard milk mixture to the boiling milk. Cook for 5 minutes till it thickens.

Hot Noodle Soup

Ingredients

1 cup noodles

2 Tbsp chilli oil

1 onion, chopped

5-6 garlic cloves, finely chopped

1 ginger

1 Tbsp curry powder

1 green chilli

1 Tbsp curry paste

1 jar vegetable stock

4 tsp lime juice

1 tsp soya sauce

1 cup coconut milk

300 gm chicken strips

2 lemons

Salt and pepper

Coriander leaves

Method

For the soup:

Take a pan, let it get heated. Add red chilli oil and onions.

Add garlic, ginger, green chillies and saute well.

BHEL bags Rs 220 crore contract

State-owned BHEL has bagged an order worth Rs 220 crore for supplying an electrostatic precipitator package to a power project in Odisha.

The contract is related to the 2×800 MW Darlipali super thermal power project.

In a statement today, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd said the Rs 220 crore order has been placed by NTPC.

The plant is located in Sundargarh district of Odisha.

The contract envisages design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of Electrostatic Precipitator Package.

Gujarat industries petition Pradhan against GAIL

With firms like Piramal Glass having to shut down part of their operations after gas supply cuts, Gujarat industries have sought Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s intervention to stop “arbitrary” action of GAIL that may lead to 30,000 job losses.

GAIL last month selectively slashed gas supplies to small industries in Gujarat to meet fuel requirement of CNG (compressed natural gas) and PNG (piped natural gas) supplies in cities. It, however, did not touch small users in other states.

Amazon plans new fulfilment centre in Gujarat

World’s largest online retailer Amazon is planning to expand its infrastructure in India with its second ‘fulfilment’ centre in Gujarat as part of the company’s $2 billion investment plan for the country.

According to sources, the US-based firm has approached the Gujarat government for setting up the centre next year and the firm is expected to start engaging with state government officials soon on the matter.

When contacted, Amazon declined to comment.
