3 children die in a ‘toy bomb’ blast in Pakistan

Three children were killed today and another injured when a “toy bomb” exploded in a village bordering India in Pakistan’s Punjab province.

There were conflicting reports about the explosion in Tughalpura village in Narowal district, some 80 kilometres from Lahore, where three children aged between 7 and 10 were killed and one suffered serious injuries.

‘Joru’ is a true-blue entertainer says Kumar Nagendra

Filmmaker Kumar Nagendra says his forthcoming Telugu drama “Joru”, which releases in cinemas Friday, is a “true-blue entertainer” made purely based on the feedback he received for his directorial debut “Gundello Godari”.

“When my first film released, the only compliant I received from audiences was the absence of comedy in it. I had decided then that when I make my next film, I’ll have oodles of comedy. That’s how ;Joru’ was conceived and it has now turned out to be out-and-out entertainer,” Nagendra told IANS.

British MPs vote in favour of ban on sex-based abortions

British lawmakers yesterday voted overwhelmingly in favour of a motion declaring sex-selection abortion illegal, ending uncertainty over whether doctors can be prosecuted for the practice.

They voted 181 to 1 for a motion brought forward by a cross-party alliance of lawmakers in the House of Commons. It will now have a second reading in January.

UN chief wants civilian-led transition in Burkina Faso

UN chief Ban Ki-moon has called for an inclusive, civilian-led transition in Burkina Faso, with his special representative in the region consulting with stakeholders, a UN spokesperson said.

“The Secretary-General continues to be greatly concerned about the current crisis in Burkina Faso and its impact on national and regional stability,” Xinhua quoted Farhan Haq told a briefing here Tuesday, adding that Ban reiterates his call for an inclusive, civilian-led transition leading to full restoration of constitutional order through democratic elections.

RSS moves Madras HC against denial of permission for procession march

Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS) has moved the Madras High Court seeking a direction to permit its annual foundation day procession in seven cities/towns in Tamil Nadu on November 9 after authorities denied the same.

When the petitions by seven units of RSS came up for hearing on Monday, Justice V.Ramasubramanian issued a notice to the conerned district authorities and police.

The petitions sought a direction to authorities to grant permission for the processions planned in Chennai, Karur, Coimbatore, Tuticorin, Thackalay, Thiruvarur and Tenkasi.

Maruti, Nissan meet safety norms; NCAP ‘scaremongering’: SIAM

Stating that car makers in India meet the country’s safety norms, auto industry body SIAM on Tuesday defended Maruti Suzuki and Nissan, which had failed crash tests conducted by Global NCAP on their Swift and Datsun GO models, respectively.

Lashing out at Global NCAP, an umbrella body of consumer car safety testing bodies, for “scaremongering”, SIAM Director General Vishnu Mathur said: “Every country has its own safety requirements. Our cars are meeting safety norms set by the government.”

IIT officials said already around 125 students have been extended pre-placement offers and interviews, where most of the companies have increased the package offered by around 20 per cent as compared to the last batch.

The highest offer made till date stands at a staggering Rs 91 lakh, they said.

‘Kiss of Love’ Facebook page and accounts hacked

The organisers of the controversial ‘Kiss of Love’ event against moral policing today claimed that their Facebook page and accounts of at least five persons linked with it have been hacked.

They also alleged that some persons had come to the venue of yesterday’s protest with arms to attack them and also suspected that those with links to terror organisation were behind the hacking incident

One of the main organisers of the event, Rahul Pasupalan, told PTI that they had filed a complaint with Kerala Home minister Ramesh Chennithala, seeking action against those behind the hacking.

Anne Hathaway eager for ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ sequel

If she had her way, actress Anne Hathaway would love a sequel of “The Devil Wears Prada”.

The 31-year-old actress spoke about her desire on a TV show recently, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

Released in 2006, the film was an adaptation of an eponymous novel by Lauren Weisberger. Hathaway played the role of Andy Sachs alongside Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt.

When asked about doing a sequel to the film, the actress said: “Wouldn’t that be fun? I’d love to do that but I don’t know if there is any plan for it.”

Ingredients:

For the dough:

250 grams maida

Salt

Water

1 teaspoon oil

For the filling:

250 grams mince meat (keema)

1 teaspoon green chilli paste

1/2 teaspoon cumin powder

1/2 small onion, chopped

1/4 teaspoon garam masala powder

2 eggs, beaten

Salt

Method:

1. Mix all the dough ingredients and knead into a soft dough. Make five to six equal portions from the dough.

2. In a vessel, cook minced meat in a cup of water. Add in chopped onions, green chilli paste, and salt. Stir and cook till water has almost dried.

Ingredients

1 cup boiled sprouted matki (moath beans)
2 tsp oil
2 cups thick beaten rice (poha)
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1 tsp finely chopped green chillies
1/2 cup finely chopped onions
1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1/2 tsp sugar
1/4 tsp chilli powder
salt to taste
2 tsp lemon juice
2 tbsp finely chopped coriander (dhania)

Procedure:

Place the beaten rice in a sieve and hold it under running water for a few seconds. Keep aside for 2 minutes for the water to drain out completely.

Google releases new extension for Chrome browser called ‘Bookmark Manager’

Google has released a new extension for its Chrome browser called Google Bookmark Manager that would provide a way to keep a record of important websites and pages people want to revisit.

The extension groups the existing collection of links into folders wherein when you add a new item, Google suggests folders to help you organize the links.

According to the Verge, users can also add photos or notes manually to a bookmark for easier retrieval later.

The extension, most importantly, brings Google’s powerful search tools to users’ bookmarks.

Sensex trades 33 points down, auto stocks sink

A benchmark index of Indian equities markets Monday was trading 33.62 points or 0.12 percent down after touching a record high of 27,969.82 points in the early morning trade session.

Iran court sentences British Iranian woman to a year in prison for watching men’s volleyball match

An Iranian court has reportedly sentenced a 25-year-old British Iranian woman to a year in prison for trying to watch a men’s volleyball match.

Ghoncheh Ghavami was found guilty of spreading anti-regime propaganda, her lawyer, Alizadeh Tabatabaie said.

Iran banned women from volleyball games in 2012 and argued that the step was aimed at protecting women from the lewd behavior of male fans, reported the BBC.

Meanwhile, Britain’s Foreign Office expressed its concern over the grounds of the prosecution, the due process during the trial and Ghavami’s treatment in custody.

The Indian cricket team, led by Virat Kohli, defeated Sri Lanka by 169 runs in first of the five-match One Day International (ODI) series on Sunday.

Kerala ‘Kiss fest’: Police arrest organisers, sympathisers

Organisers and sympathisers of the controversial ‘Kiss of Love’ event were today taken into custody as they tried to march to the Marine drive grounds, venue of the symbolic protest against moral policing, police said.

The organisers tried to take out a march from Ernakulam Law college to the venue, but were prevented from doing so. About 50 persons were taken into custody, they said.

Holding placards and raising slogans against moral policing, the protestors were bundled into a police van.

Weight-loss surgery reduces diabetes risk

Weight-loss surgery could reduce the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by around 80 percent in obese people, says a study.

More than 80 percent of adults with Type 2 diabetes are overweight or obese.

“Our results suggest that bariatric (weight loss) surgery may be a highly effective method of preventing the onset of diabetes in men and women with severe obesity,” said Martin Gulliford, professor at King’s College London in Britain.

Michelin Guide names Hong Kong world culinary ‘leaders’

Hong Kongers have claimed the title of most “undisputed leaders” in international culinary.

The 2015 Michelin guide to Hong Kong and Macau has awarded 75 restaurants with its popular stars, where Hong Kong received a whopping 64 stars, the CNN reported.

Michelin said in a statement that the guide showed the extent to which Hong Kong was increasingly attracting to young foreign chefs, with more and more of them are moving to the city.
