Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti has appealed to the people of the Chenab valley not to waste their votes by casting them in favour the National Conference which, she claimed, “is a defeated force now”.

“National Conference is a defeated force now and I hope the people of Kishtwar too will reject it the way people of the Kashmir Valley have done,” Mufti said at a public rally in Kishtwar yesterday.

Shiv Sena legislators on Monday occupied Opposition benches as the special three-day session of Maharashtra Assembly began here during which Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will seek a trust vote as mandated by the Governor when he stakes claim to form the government.

Sena members, wearing saffron pheta (headgear) came to Legislative Assembly in a group and occupied the benches meant for Opposition, where their seating arrangement was made, in keeping with the norms for the second largest party in the 288-member House.

US welcomes rise of ‘prosperous, peaceful, stable China’

Beijing, Nov 10 (IANS) President Barack Obama Monday said the US welcomes the rise of a prosperous, peaceful and stable China.

Speaking at the 2014 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit, Obama said the US-China relationship was not a “zero-sum game” and benefitted both countries and the world, Xinhua reported.

As the world’s two largest economies, the two countries “have special responsibilities to embrace”, Obama said.

“If China and the US can work together, the world benefits.”

Raajpal Yadav in Ravi Teja’s ‘Kick 2’

Bollywood actor Raajpal Yadav, who is currently busy promoting “Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain”, will be making his Telugu debut in Ravi Teja-starrer action-comedy “Kick 2”.

“Just landed to land of Tollywood for my upcoming Telugu film Kick 2 (sic),” Yadav tweeted Monday.

“Kick 2”, which is being directed by Surender Reddy, is an extension of the filmmaker’s own “Kick”.

Ravi Teja will be essaying the role of father and son in the film, which is currently on the floors.

The film, which is produced by actor Nandamuri Kalyan Ram, features Rakul Preet Singh as the female lead.

A memorandum of understanding to make Kathmandu-Varanasi and Janakpur-Ayodhya sister cities will be signed during Modi’s visit Nov 26-27.

Sensex slips 84 points; capital goods stocks plunge

A benchmark index of Indian equities markets was trading 83.85 points or 0.30 percent down Monday as the capital goods stocks plunged.

Good buying was observed in fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector, while selling pressure was seen in capital goods, auto and banking sectors.

The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 27,919.45 points, was trading at 27,784.78 points (at 12.46 p.m.), down 83.85 points or 0.30 percent from the previous day’s close at 27,868.63 points.

Bhopal gas victims begin indefinite fast in Delhi

Victims of the Bhopal gas tragedy Monday began an indefinite fast in Delhi, demanding additional compensation for those affected and revision of the figures after 30 years of suffering.

The Union Carbide disaster took place on the intervening night of Dec 2-3, 1984. Five women survivors began their fast at Jantar Mantar with other survivors and children.

Hundreds of RSS cadres detained; Hindu Munnani condemns

Hundreds of RSS cadres were detained across Tamil Nadu today when they tried to take out route marches on its Founder’s Day, as the police action drew flak from Hindu Munnani which accused them of ‘high-handedness’ saying permission had been granted by the Madras High Court.

In Chennai, hundreds of RSS cadres were detained when they tried to commence the route march from near Rajaratnam Stadium, while similar numbers were held from various parts of the state, police said.

The cadres were later let off in the evening.

Honda Cars India aims 50% rise in sales in North-East in FY15

Honda Cars India expects sales from the North-East to grow by about 50 per cent during 2014-15 on the back of strong demand for its petrol-driven vehicles in the region.

“The market in North-East holds a lot of potential for growth of Honda Cars. We are expecting about 50 per cent sales growth in this region during 2014-15,” Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) Senior Vice-President (Marketing and Sales) Jnaneswar Sen told PTI.

The sales volume in North-East grew 38 per cent at 1,733 units in 2013-14 as compared to 1,258 units in the previous fiscal, he added.

Rupee gains 17 paise at 61.45 against US dollar

The rupee strengthened by 17 paise to 61.45 against the dollar in early trade on Monday at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on increased selling of the US currency by exporters and banks amidst sustained foreign capital inflows.

Forex dealers said besides increased selling of the American currency by exporters and banks, the dollar’s weakness against other currencies overseas, supported the rupee.

A higher opening in the domestic equity market, which soared to new highs, too influenced the rupee, they added.

DDA gets over 10 lakh applications, dry run for draw today

DDA has received over 10 lakh applications for the flagship ‘Housing Scheme 2014’ and it will on Monday conduct a dry run to check its preparedness for the much-awaited draw of lots.

The tentative date for holding the draw of the lots for the new scheme was November 10, but a senior official of the housing authority on Sunday said that the exact date would be decided based on the outcome of Monday’s trial.

Mice allergy: a predictor of asthma in kids

According to a study, mice allergy is a stronger predictor of asthma-related emergency department visits in young children than exposure to cockroaches.

Previous research has been inconsistent in determining the relative effects of mouse droppings versus cockroach exposure on asthma in children, found the study being presented at the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology’ (ACAAI) Annual Scientific Meeting in Atlanta, Nov 6-10.

For the study, researchers examined 49 children under four.

US concerned about military build-up in Ukraine

The US is “very concerned” by intensified fighting and rebels’ military build-up in eastern Ukraine, the White House said Sunday.

“Any attempt by separatist forces to seize additional territory in eastern Ukraine would be a blatant violation of the Minsk agreements,” reported Xinhua citing a statement issued by Bernadette Meehan, spokesperson for White House’s National Security Council.

Dhanush: Need to thank K.V Anand for ‘Shamitabh’

Actor Dhanush, who recently completed shooting for R. Balakrishnan-directed “Shamitabh”, Sunday said that he could be part of the project because filmmaker K.V Anand allowed him to take out time to shoot for it while working on his upcoming Tamil film “Anegan”.

“I was working on ‘Anegan’ when I got the offer to work in ‘Shamitabh’. I was amazed by the film’s script but didn’t know how I would take out time to shoot for it. But K.V Anand sir was kind enough to adjust his dates for me to work in ‘Shamitabh’. I need to thank him for that,” Dhanush told reporters here.

CII says cabinet expansion will improve focus on economy

Echoing the sentiments of India Inc, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Sunday congratulated the new members of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ministerial council and said the ministry-expansion will help improve the focus on economic recovery.

“The induction of new ministers will streamline governance and bring in new ideas for the economic reforms process,” said CII president Ajay Shriram. “Several of the ministries were under a single minister, and industry was widely expecting the expansion of the cabinet at an early date.”

‘Australia lagging behind to deal with climate change’

Australia’s lacklustre approach to climate change has resulted in a 70 percent dip in investment from foreign organisations, a Climate Council report said.

The report, titled “Lagging Behind: Australia and the Global Response to Climate Change”, concluded that while super powers had accelerated their strategies to deal with climate change, Australia had fallen behind, reported Xinhua.

The result has seen a host of green businesses moving overseas, with China and the US profiting from Australia’s refusal to cut carbon emissions.

Six injured in clash in Muzaffarnagar

At least six people were injured in a clash between two groups belonging to different communities over an alleged eveteasing incident in Vehelna village here.

The two sides indulged in stone pelting and attacked each other with sticks yesterday after a quarrel erupted over a girl being allegedly harassed by youths, police said today.

Six people have been admitted to hospital.

A case has been registered in this connection, they said.

Security has been tightened in the area after the incident and extra policemen have been deployed as a precautionary measure.

Sensex, Nifty hit fresh lifetime highs on capital inflows

The benchmark BSE Sensex hit new record-high of 28,027.96 and the NSE Nifty touched another peak of 8,383.05, respectively in opening trade today as investors cheered expansion of the Union Cabinet amidst continued foreign capital inflows.

Besides, a mixed trend at other Asian markets influenced trading sentiments.

The 30-share index, which had lost 47.25 points in the previous session, recovered by 159.33 points, or 0.57 per cent, to a new peak of 28,027.96 with all sectoral indices, led by FMCG, healthcare, metal and consumer durables gaining up to 1.43 per cent.
